- 5. A cell (112) as set forth in claim 2 wherein said first wall (116) has thickness greater than said first step wall (122), said first step wall (122) has a thickness greater than the thickness of said second wall (118), said second wall (118) has a thickness greater than the thickness of said second step wall (124), and said second step wall (124) has a thickness greater than the thickness of said third wall (120).
- 6. A cell (12, 112) as set forth in claim 5 wherein said first (16, 116) second (18, 118) and third (20, 120) walls are annular and said step walls (22, 24) and (122, 124) are frustro-conical.
- 7. A cell 12, 112 as set forth in claim 2 including a plurality of said cells (12, 112) interconnected by cell stringers (14).
- 8. A cell (12, 112) as set forth in claim 7 including six of said cell stringers (14) extending radially from at least some of said cells (12, 112).
- 9. A cell (12, 112) as set forth in claim 7 including a peripheral stringer (32) surrounding a plurality of said cells (12, 112) and cell stringers (14) to define an energy absorption module (10).
- 10. A method of molding an energy absorption cell (12, 112) comprising the steps of;
forming a mold cavity between mold parts (34, 36) to define a first wall (16, 116) extending upwardly about an axis (A) and a second wall (18, 118) extending about the axis (A) within and closer to the axis (A) than the first wall (16, 116) and a first step wall (22, 122) generally horizontally interconnecting the first (16, 116) and second (18, 118) walls and having a greater thickness than the second wall (18, 118), and injecting organic polymeric material into the cavity.
- 11. A method as set forth in claim 10 forming the cavity to define a third wall (20, 120) extending about the axis (A) within and closer to the axis (A) than the second wall (18, 118), and a second step wall (24, 124) generally horizontally interconnecting the second (18, 118) and third (20, 120) walls and having a greater thickness than the first step wall (22, 122).
