Claims
- 1. A refrigeration or freezer appliance, comprising:
- a housing defining a cooling storage compartment;
- refrigeration means circulating refrigerant for cooling said cooling storage compartment, said refrigeration means having components including a compressor and a condenser;
- at least one fluid passage disposed in a door panel attached to said housing and having a first inlet and a first outlet for enabling ingress and egress of a cooling fluid;
- a heat exchanger disposed external of said housing for containing said cooling fluid, said first inlet and said first outlet being connected to said heat exchanger; and
- a pump for pumping said cooling fluid through said at least one fluid passage in order to aid in cooling said storage compartment in addition to cooling provided by the refrigeration means.
- 2. The appliance according to claim 1, wherein said at least one fluid passage is defined by a serpentine tube.
- 3. The appliance according to claim 1, wherein said heat exchanger is exposed to outside air.
- 4. The appliance according to claim 1, wherein said heat exchanger is disposed underground.
- 5. The appliance according to claim 1, wherein said cooling fluid is brine.
- 6. The appliance according to claim 1, wherein said first inlet is provided with a valve for controlling passage of fluid through said first inlet.
- 7. The appliance according to claim 1, wherein said at least one fluid passage includes a first fluid passage disposed proximate to said compressor, a second fluid passage disposed adjacent to said condenser, and a third fluid passage disposed in at least one wall portion of said housing.
- 8. A refrigeration or freezer appliance, comprising:
- a housing defining an open unit-type cooling storage compartment;
- refrigeration means circulating refrigerant for cooling said open unit-type cooling storage compartment, said refrigeration means having components including a compressor and a condenser;
- at least one fluid passage disposed proximate to said open unit-type cooling storage compartment and having a first inlet and a first outlet for enabling ingress and egress of a cooling fluid;
- 9. The appliance according to claim 8, wherein said at least one fluid passage is defined by a serpentine tube.
- 10. The appliance according to claim 8, wherein said heat exchanger is exposed to outside air.
- 11. The appliance according to claim 8, wherein said heat exchanger is disposed underground.
- 12. The appliance according to claim 8, wherein said cooling fluid is brine.
- 13. The appliance according to claim 8, wherein said first inlet is provided with a valve for controlling passage of fluid through said first inlet.
- 14. The appliance according to claim 8, wherein said at least one fluid passage includes a first fluid passage disposed proximate to said compressor, a second fluid passage disposed proximate to said condenser, and a third fluid passage disposed in at least one wall portion of said housing.
- 15. A refrigeration or freezer appliance, comprising:
- a housing defining a cooling storage compartment;
- refrigeration means circulating refrigerant for cooling said cooling storage compartment, said refrigeration means having components including a compressor and a condenser;
- a first fluid passage disposed near an outer wall of said housing and a second fluid passage disposed near an inner wall of said housing for carrying cooling fluid through said housing;
- a heat exchanger disposed external of said housing for containing said cooling fluid, said first and second fluid passages being selectively connected to said heat exchanger by a valve; and
- a pump for pumping said cooling fluid through at least one of said first and second fluid passages in order to aid in cooling said storage compartment in addition to cooling provided by the refrigeration means.
- 16. A refrigeration or freezer appliance, comprising:
- a housing including:
- an outer shell having a plurality of sidewalls, at least one of said sidewalls including grooves formed in an inner surface thereof;
- a heat conducting sheething layer bonded to the inner surface of said at least one sidewall so as to form a fluid passage between said grooves and said sheething layer;
- a food liner defining a storage compartment disposed between two of said sidewalls; and
- a foam layer disposed between said sheething layer and said food liner.
- 17. The refrigerator or freezer appliance according to claim 16, wherein said at least one sidewall is a door panel.
- 18. The refrigerator or freezer appliance according to claim 16, wherein said outer shell is made of a plastic material.
