Claims
- 1. A range gated line sensor which comprises:
- a transmission line;
- means for launching energy onto one end of said line comprising a pulse train generator to supply a train of video pulses, the intrusion of a target along said line causing a return echos;
- means for detecting said return echo including range gate means thereby to detect the presence of said returning target;
- transmit/receive coupler including switching diodes with direct current bias for conducting energy from said launching means to said transmission line and return echos from said transmission line to said detecting means;
- delay means connected between said pulse train generator and said range gate means for providing time base signals; and,
- wherein said transmission line is non-deformable and comprises first and second open wires embedded in a rigid non-conducting member.
- 2. The system according to claim 1, further including a metallic screen below said member to reduce losses.
- 3. The system according to claim 1, wherein said transmit/receive coupler comprise a transformer having a balanced winding connected to the two wires of the transmission line and an unbalanced winding, a first diode between the pulse train generator and the unbalanced winding, a second diode between the unbalanced winding and the range gate means, and bias means to enable pulses from the pulse train generator to pass through the first diode and to be blocked by the second diode, and to enable said return echo to pass through the second diode to the range gate means.
- 4. The system according to claim 1, wherein said transmit/receive coupler includes a differential amplifier with an output connection to said range gate means.
- 5. The system according to claim 1, wherein said pulse generator includes means for coding of the train of video pulses by pseudo-random reversal of polarity.
- 6. The system according to claim 5, wherein said coding further includes pseudo-random omission of pulses from the train.
- 7. The system according to claim 1, wherein said pulse train generator includes means for coding of the train of pulses by pseudo-random omission of pulses.
- 8. A range gated line sensor which comprises:
- a transmission line;
- means for launching energy onto one end of said line including a radio frequency generator operatively connected to a radio frequency switch, the intrusion of a target along said line causing a return echo,
- means for detecting said return echo including a radio frequency demodulator operatively connected to range gate means thereby to detect the presence of said intruding target; and,
- a transmit/receive coupler for connecting energy from said launching means to said transmission line and said return echos to said detecting means;
- wherein said transmission line is non-deformable and comprises first and second open wires embedded in a rigid non-conducting member.
- 9. The system according to claim 8, further including a pulse train generator to supply a train of pulses connected to actuate said radio frequency switch, and delay means connected between the pulse train generator and the range gate means.
- 10. The system according to claims 1 or 8 wherein said wires of the transmission line comprise a twisted pair.
