Claims
- 1. An environmental control system comprising:
- A refrigeration loop including a variable speed compressor having an inlet and an outlet, a condenser having an inlet connected with said compressor outlet and an outlet, and an evaporator having an inlet connected with said condenser outlet and an outlet connected with said compressor inlet;
- temperature setpoint establishing means for establishing a desired air temperature;
- a variable speed evaporator fan for moving air across said evaporator;
- recirculated air temperature measuring means for measuring the temperature of air that has passed over said evaporator;
- evaporator air inlet temperature measuring means for measuring the temperature of said evaporator adjacent its inlet;
- evaporator fan speed control means for establishing the speed of said evaporator fan as a function at least of said desired air temperature and said recirculated air temperature; and
- compressor speed control means for establishing the speed of said compressor as a function at least of said evaporator air inlet temperature and said speed of said evaporator fan.
- 2. The system in claim 1 wherein said evaporator fan speed control means includes comparison means for comparing said recirculated air temperature and said desired air temperature to determine an error value and selection means for selecting a value of evaporator fan speed that corresponds to said error value.
- 3. The system in claim 2 wherein said selection means includes a plurality of relationships between said error value and evaporator fan speed and wherein said selection means is responsive to said evaporator air inlet temperature in determining which of said relationships to use.
- 4. The system in claim 1 wherein said compressor speed control means includes a plurality of relationships between said evaporator air inlet temperature and compressor speed and selection means for selecting a value of compressor speed that corresponds to said evaporator fan speed and wherein said selection means is responsive to said evaporator air inlet temperature in determining which of said relationships to use.
- 5. The system in claim 1 wherein said compressor is a two-stage centrifugal compressor having bypass means for selectively bypassing one state of said compressor and further wherein said compressor speed selection means establishes the speed of said compressor as a function of whether said bypass means is bypassing said one stage.
