Claims
- 1. An environmental control system comprising:
- a refrigeration loop including a two stage centrifugal compressor having an inlet and an outlet, a condenser having an inlet connected with said compressor outlet and an outlet, and an evaporator having an inlet connected with said condenser outlet and an outlet connected with said compressor inlet;
- a motor for rotating said compressor at a rate of between 30,000 and 75,000 revolutions per minute wherein said motor is capable of rotating said compressor at a rate which is variable;
- control means responsive to evaporator load, defined by evaporator inlet temperature and air flow and condenser inlet temperature for establishing said rate of rotating said compressor;
- a controllable expansion valve in communication with said refrigeration loop;
- an expansion valve control means to control the setting of said expansion valve;
- a bypass valve in communication with said refrigeration loop and also being in communication with one stage of said compressor; said bypass valve being selectively openable to allow circulated refrigerant to be variably communicated to said stage in communication therewith; and
- said setting of said expansion valve also being a function of bypass valve operation.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein said control means is also responsive to bypass valve positioning.
