Claims
- 1. An environmental control system comprising:
- a refrigeration loop including a variable speed compressor having an inlet and an outlet, a condenser having an inlet connected with said compressor outlet and an outlet, and an evaporator having an inlet connected with said condenser outlet and an outlet connected with said compressor outlet;
- a variable speed evaporator fan for moving air across said evaporator;
- compressor speed control means for controlling the speed of said compressor to produce a particular amount of cooling;
- monitor means for monitoring the superheat condition at the inlet of said compressor; and
- primary superheat control means responsive to said monitor means for establishing at least in part the speed of said evaporator fan in a manner that will tend to maintain a predetermined superheat condition.
- 2. The system in claim 1 including a variable speed condenser fan for moving air across said condenser and secondary superheat control means responsive to said monitor means for establishing at least in part the speed of said condenser fan in a manner that will tend to maintain a predetermined superheat condition.
- 3. The system in claim 2 including means for actuating said secondary superheat control means only when said speed of said evaporator fan is at a predetermined speed.
- 4. The system in claim 2 including tertiary superheat control means responsive to said monitor means for modifying the speed of said compressor established by said compressor speed control means in a manner that will tend to maintain a predetermined superheat condition.
- 5. The system in claim 4 including means for actuating said tertiary superheat control means only when said speed of said condenser fan is at a predetermined speed.
- 6. The system in claim 1 including evaporator temperature measuring means for measuring the temperature of said evaporator, wherein said speed of said evaporator fan is a function of the difference between a temperature setting and the temperature of the air as measured by recirculated air temperature sensors.
- 7. The system in claim 2 including condenser air inlet temperature measuring means for measuring the temperature of said condenser, wherein said speed of said condenser is a function of said condenser temperature.
- 8. The system in claim 1 wherein said monitor means includes means for measuring the temperature within said compressor at its inlet.
- 9. The system in claim 8 wherein said monitor means further includes means for measuring the pressure within said compressor at its inlet and means for comparing said temperature and said pressure within said compressor.
