Claims
- 1. An aqueous phosphoric acid bonding solution which comprises a source of magnesium, zinc and borate ions in aqueous phosphoric acid, the solution being at least substantially free of dissolved aluminum ions, chromate and molybdate and vanadium ions, and the solution having a pH in the range from about 2 to about 4.5.
- 2. The bonding solution of claim 1 wherein the source of magnesium ions is selected from the group consisting of magnesium carbonate, magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide and mixtures thereof.
- 3. The bonding solution of claim 1 wherein the source of zinc ions is selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, zinc hydroxide, zinc phosphate, zinc borate, zinc molybdate/phosphate and mixtures thereof, and the source of borate ions is selected from the group consisting of boric acid, zinc borate and mixtures thereof.
- 4. The bonding solution of claim 1 which comprises zinc oxide, ferric phosphate, magnesium carbonate and boric acid.
- 5. A coating compensation comprising
