Claims
- 1. An erbium-doped silica glass soot reform for an optical fiber containing erbium ions, aluminum ions, and phosphorus ions;
- wherein said erbium doped silica glass soot preform is produced by dipping a silica glass soot preform into a solution containing an erbium compound, an aluminum compound and a phosphorous compound, and desiccating said silica glass soot preform impregnated with erbium ions, aluminum ions, and phosphorus ions;
- and wherein said solution contains an amount of said aluminum compound so that said desiccated erbium-doped silica glass soot preform has an aluminum ion content of more than 3 wt. %.
- 2. An erbium-doped silica glass soot preform according to claim 1, wherein concentration distributions of said erbium ions, aluminum ions, and phosphorus ions are homogeneous in the radial and longitudinal directions of said erbium-doped silica glass soot preform.
- 3. An erbium-doped silica glass soot preform according to claim 1, wherein a bulk density distribution of said erbium-doped silica glass soot preform is homogeneous in the radial direction.
- 4. An erbium-doped silica glass soot preform according to claim 1, wherein said erbium compound is an erbium chloride.
- 5. An erbium-doped silica glass soot preform according to claim 1, wherein said aluminum compound is an aluminum chloride.
- 6. An erbium-doped silica glass soot preform according to claim 4, wherein said phosphorus compound is a phosphoric ester.
- 7. An erbium-doped optical fiber, wherein an erbium-doped glass soot preform according to claim 1 is used as a core soot preform of said optical fiber.
- 8. An erbium-doped optical fiber according to claim 7, wherein said erbium-doped optical fiber is an optical fiber for transmitting a signal light having a wavelength of 1.53 .mu.m-1.56 .mu.m.
