Claims
- 1. Keyboard apparatus, for providing input to a computer, comprising:
- means for supporting at least a first alphanumeric key array in a doubly-concave configuration to permit activation of all keys in said array by the digits of one hand and for supporting a plurality of auxiliary keys positioned to be activatable by the thumb of said one hand;
- at least a first footpedal, coupled to one of said keyboard apparatus and said computer; and
- rotatable key well means for permitting adjustment of the orientation of keys carried by said rotatable key well means.
- 2. A method for data input, comprising:
- providing a data input device having first and second palm rests, a key array with first and second keys constructed to move between first remote and second proximate positions remote from and proximate to the data input device, respectively, and a rotatable key well means for permitting adjustment of the orientation of keys carried by said rotatable key well means;
- supporting the hands of an operator with said first and second palm rests; and
- moving said first key to said second proximate position while maintaining said second key in said first remote position, said first key being vertically displaced from said second key.
- 3. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein said footpedal is configured such that activation of said footpedal changes the function of at least a first key of said keyboard.
- 4. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein activation of said footpedal performs at least a function selected from the group consisting of:
- a shift function;
- a caps lock function;
- a control key function;
- an alt key function;
- an escape key function;
- an enter key function;
- a mouse button function.
- 5. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1 wherein activation of said footpedal performs the function of at least one key of said keyboard.
- 6. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein said footpedal has more than two positions.
- 7. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a second footpedal coupled to one of said keyboard and said computer.
- 8. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, wherein activation of said footpedal remaps keys on one half of said keyboard to corresponding keys on the other half of said keyboard.
- 9. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1 further comprising first and second trackballs coupled to said keyboard.
- 10. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, further comprising means for changing the function of a first sub-plurality of keys of said keyboard from a first function to a second function.
- 11. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 10 wherein said first function includes alphanumeric functions and said second function includes numeric keypad functions.
- 12. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 10 wherein said means for changing is a function key of said keyboard.
- 13. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 10 further comprising indicator means for indicating which of said first and second functions is active.
- 14. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 10, wherein said means for changing is a dedicated key of said keyboard.
- 15. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 further comprising at least a first key configured such that the height of the top of the keycap, when said first key is activated is greater than the height of an upper surface of a keycap of an adjacent key which in unactivated.
- 16. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1 wherein said keyboard comprises a first key-carrying portion which is movable with respect to a second key-carrying portion.
- 17. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 1 further comprising at least a second keyboard, with a plurality of keys, coupled to one of said keyboard apparatus and said computers.
- 18. Apparatus, as claimed in claim 17 wherein said second keyboard includes at least one key array in a doubly-concave configuration.
