Claims
- 1. A method of treating cerebral malaria by reducing the adhesion of Plasmodium species infected blood cells to the vascular endothelial wall in a patient in need thereof which comprises intravenously administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a castanospermine ester of the formula ##STR7## wherein R and R' are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-18 alkanoyl, C.sub.3-18 alkanoyl, and ##STR8## wherein Y is hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or C.sub.1-4 alkoxy; with R and R', with the proviso that one of R or R', but not both, must be hydrogen; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
