Claims
- 1. A method of dispatching elevator care including estimating the number of passengers waiting for an elevator at a stop on a particular floor for a selected up or down direction of travel of a multi elevator system, comprising:
- providing a passenger count signal having a value indicative of an estimated number of passengers that enter a car at a particular stop for travel in a selected up or down direction;
- providing a stop elapsed time signal having a value indicative of the elapsed time since the last servicing of said stop;
- providing a passenger rate signal having a value indicative of the ratio of the value indicated by said passenger count signal to the value indicted by said step elapsed time signal;
- providing a compensation signal having a value indicative of the ratio of the total number of stops in the selected direction to the remaining number of stops ahead of the particular stop in the selected direction;
- providing a compensated passenger rate signal having a value which includes the product of the value indicated by said passenger rate signal and the value indicated by said compensation signal;
- providing, in response to a hall call for service in a selected up or down service direction, a call elapsed time signal having a value indicative of the elapsed time since the stop related to said hall call was last serviced;
- using the value indicated by said compensated passenger rate signal to provide a hall passengers signal indicative of an estimate of the number of passengers waiting at the stop related to said hall call in dependence on the value indicated by said call elapsed time signal; and
- dispatching elevator cars to service hall calls based upon said estimates of the number of passengers waiting behind the hall calls indicated by said hall passengers signal.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein said compensation signal comprises (F-1)/(i-1) when said passengers enter said car in response to a hall call for service in the down direction and comprises (F-1)/(F-i) when said passengers enter said car in response to a hall call for service in the up direction, where F is the total number of floors in the building and i is said particular floor.
- 3. A method of dispatching elevator cars including estimating the number of passengers waiting for an elevator at a stop on a particular floor for a selected up or down direction of travel of a multi elevator system, comprising:
- providing in response to each hall call being registered for service at a stop a signal, T, the value of which is indicative of the elapsed time between the last servicing of said stop and the pressing of the hall call button that resulted in the current servicing of said stop;
- providing a set of signals, the values of which are indicative of an estimated passenger rate fuzzy set in which the basis elements of the plurality of terms are 1/T, 2/T, 3/T, . . . n/T, for values of n=10 or less, and the corresponding degree of membership of the terms are RTe.sup.-RT, where e is the natural logarithm and R is said basis element of the corresponding term of the fuzzy set;
- providing a compensation signal having a value indicative of the ratio of the total number of stops in the selected direction to the remaining number of stops ahead of the particular stop in the selected direction;
- providing a set of signals the values of which are indicative of a compensated passenger rate fuzzy set formed by multiplying each of the basis elements of said estimated passengers rate fuzzy set by the value indicated by said compensation signal;
- providing, in response to a hall call for service in a selected up or down service direction, a call elapsed time signal having a value indicative of the elapsed time since the stop related to said hall call was last serviced;
- using said compensated passenger rate fuzzy set to provide a hall passengers set of signals indicative of a fuzzy set of the estimated number of passengers waiting at the stop related to said hall call in dependence on the value indicated by said call elapsed time signal; and
- dispatching elevator cars to service hall calls based upon said estimates of the number of passengers waiting behind the hall calls indicated by said hall passengers set of signals.
- 4. A method according to claim 3 wherein said compensation signal comprises (F-1)/(i-1) when said hall call is registered for service in the down direction and comprises (F-1)/(F-i) when said hall call is registered for service in the up direction, where F is the total number of floors in the building and i is said particular floor.
- 5. A method of dispatching elevator cars including estimating the number of passengers waiting for an elevator at a stop on a particular floor for a selected up or down direction of travel of a multi elevator system, comprising:
- providing, each time a stop is serviced
- a set of signals the values of which are indicative of a first estimated passenger fuzzy set in which the basis elements are the number of passengers and the degree of membership are the estimated likelihood of that number of passengers entering the car at that particular service stop for travel in said selected direction;
- a stop elapsed time signal having a value indicative of the elapsed time since the last servicing of said service stop;
- a first compensation signal having a value indicative of the ratio of the total number of stops in the selected direction to the remaining number of stops ahead of the particular service stop in the selected direction;
- a set of signals the values of which are indicative of a first compensated passenger rate fuzzy set formed by multiplying each of the basis elements of said first estimated passenger fuzzy set by the ratio of the value indicated by said first compensation signal to the value of said stop elapsed time signal;
- providing in response to each hall call being registered for serviced at a call stop
- a signal, T, the value of which is indicative of the elapsed time between the last servicing of said call stop and the pressing of the hall call button that resulted in the current hall being registered;
- a set of signals the values of which are indicative of a second estimated passenger rate fuzzy set in which the basis elements of the terms are 1/T, 2/T, 3/T, . . . n/T, for values of n=10 or less, and the corresponding degrees of membership of the terms are RTe.sup.-RT, where e is the natural logarithm and R is said basis element of the corresponding term of the fuzzy set;
- a second compensation signal having a value indicative of the ratio of the total number of stops in the selected direction to the remaining number of stops ahead of the particular call stop in the selected direction;
- a set of signals the values of which are indicative of a second compensated passenger rate fuzzy set formed by multiplying each of the basis elements of said second estimated passenger rate fuzzy set by the value indicated by said second compensation signal;
- providing a set of signals indicative of the mode of operation of said elevator system including a UM signal having a value indicative of the relative degree to which said system is experiencing up-peak traffic demand, a DM signal having a value indicative of the relative degree to which said system is experiencing down-peak traffic demand, and an OP signal having a value indicative of the relative degree to which said system is experiencing neither up-peak traffic demand nor down-peak traffic demand;
- iteratively providing, for each newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set, including each newly provided first compensated passenger rate fuzzy set and each newly provided second compensated passenger rate fuzzy set
- a set of signals indicative of an up rate fuzzy set by multiplying the membership values in said newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set by a small fraction of the value of said UM signal, multiplying the membership values of the next previously provided up rate fuzzy set by one minus said small fraction of the value of said UM signal and adding said newly provided up rate fuzzy set thereto;
- a set of signals indicative of a down rate fuzzy set of multiplying the membership values in said newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set by said small fraction of the value of said DM signal, multiplying the membership values of the next previously provided down rate fuzzy set by one minus said small fraction of the value of said DM signal and adding said newly provided down rate fuzzy set thereto;
- a set of signals indicative of an off rate fuzzy set by multiplying the membership values in said newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set by said small fraction of the value of said OP signal, multiplying the membership values of the next previously provided off rate fuzzy set by one minus said small fraction of the value of said OP signal and adding said newly provided off rate fuzzy set thereto;
- whereby said newly provided up, down and off rate fuzzy sets are updated in weighted, running averages that include values of said first compensated passenger rate fuzzy sets and said second compensated passenger rate fuzzy sets;
- providing, in response to a hall call for service in a selected up or down service direction
- a set of signals indicative of a total rate fuzzy set by multiplying the degrees of membership of said up rate fuzzy set by the ratio of the value of said UM signal to the sum of the values of said UM, DM and OP signals, the degrees of membership of said down rate fuzzy set by the ratio of the value of said DM signal to the sum of the values of said UM, DM and OP signals, the degrees of member ship of said off rate fuzzy set by the ratio of the value of said OP signal to the sum of the values of said UM, DM and OP signals, and adding the resulting fuzzy sets together; and
- a hall passengers set of signals indicative of a fuzzy set of the estimated number of passengers waiting at the stop related to said hall call by multiplying each of the basis elements of said total rate fuzzy set by the value indicated by said signal T for said hall call; and
- dispatching elevator cars to service hall calls based upon said estimates of the number of passengers waiting behind the hall calls indicated by said hall passengers set of signals.
- 6. A method according to claim 5 wherein said small fraction is two tenths.
- 7. A method according to claim 5 wherein said compensation signal comprises (F-1)/(i-1) when said passengers enter said car in response to a hall call for service in the down direction and comprises (F-1)/(F-i) when said passengers enter said car in response to a hall call for service in the up direction, where F is the total number of floors in the building and i is a particular floor.
- 8. A method of dispatching elevator cars including estimating the number of passengers waiting for an elevator at a stop on a particular floor for a selected up or down direction of travel of a multi elevator system, comprising:
- providing, in response to requested service at a stop in said selected direction, a set of signals the values of which are indicative of an estimated passenger rate fuzzy set in which the basis elements are the number of passengers per unit of time since the last servicing of said stop and the degrees of membership are the estimated likelihood of that number of passengers per said unit of time arriving at said particular stop for travel in said selected direction;
- providing a set of signals indicative of the mode of operation of said elevator system including a UM signal having a value indicative of the relative degree to the which said system is experiencing up-peak traffic demand, a DM signal having a value indicative of the relative degree to which said system is experiencing down-peak traffic demand, and an OP signal having a value indicative of the relative degree to which said system is experiencing neither up-peak traffic demand nor down-peak traffic demand;
- iteratively providing, for each newly provided estimated passenger rate fuzzy set
- a set of signals indicative of an up rate fuzzy set by multiplying the membership values in said newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set by a small fraction of the value of said UM signal, multiplying the membership values of the next previously provided up rate fuzzy set by one minus said small fraction of the value of said UM signal, and adding said newly provided up rate fuzzy set thereto;
- a set of signals indicative of a down rate fuzzy set by multiplying the membership values in said newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set by said small fraction of the value of said DM signal, multiplying the membership values of the next previously provided down rate fuzzy set by one minus said small fraction of the value of said DM signal, and adding said newly provided down rate fuzzy set thereto;
- a set of signals indicative of an off rate fuzzy set by multiplying the membership values in said newly provided compensated passenger rate fuzzy set by said small fraction of the value of said OP signal, multiplying the membership values of the next previously provided off rate fuzzy set by one minus said small fraction of the value of said OP signal, and adding said newly provided off rate fuzzy set thereto;
- providing, in response to a hall call for service in a selected up or down service direction
- a set of signals indicative of a total rate fuzzy set by multiplying the degrees of membership of said up rate fuzzy set by the ratio of the value of said UM signal to the sum of the values of said UM, DM and OP signals, the degree of membership of said down rate fuzzy set by the ratio of the value of said DM signal to the sum of the values of said UM, DM and OP signals, the degrees of membership of said off rate fuzzy set by the ratio of the value of said OP signal to the sum of the values of said UM, DM and OP signals, and adding the resulting fuzzy sets together;
- a call elapsed time signal having a value indicative of the elapsed time since the stop related to said hall call was last serviced; and
- a hall passengers set of signals indicative of a fuzzy set of the estimated number of passengers waiting at the stop related to said hall call by multiplying each of the basis elements of said total rate fuzzy set by the value indicated by said call elapsed time signal; and
- dispatching elevator cars to service hall calls based upon said estimates of the number of passengers waiting behind the halls calls indicated by said hall passengers set of signals.
- 9. A method of dispatching elevator cars including estimating the number of passengers waiting for an elevator at a stop on a particular floor for a selected up or down direction of travel of a multi elevator system, comprising:
- providing in response to requested service at a stop in said selected direction
- a set of signals the values of which are indicative of an estimated passenger rate fuzzy set in which the basis elements are the number of passengers per unit of time since the last servicing of said stop and the degrees of membership are the estimated likelihood of that number of passengers per said unit of time arriving at said particular stop for travel in said selected direction;
- a compensation signal having a value indicative of the ratio of the total number of stops in the selected direction to the remaining number of stops ahead of the particular stop in the selected direction;
- a set of signals the values of which are indicative of a compensated passenger rate fuzzy set formed by multiplying each of the basis elements of said estimated passenger rate fuzzy set by the value indicated by said compensation signal;
- using said compensated rate fuzzy set to provide, for each registered hall call, a set of signals indicative of a fuzzy set of the number of passengers estimated to be waiting at said hall call in dependence of the amount of elapsed time since the last time the stop of said registered hall call was serviced; and
- dispatching elevator cars to service hall calls based upon said estimates of the number of passengers waiting behind the hall calls indicated by said number of passengers fuzzy set.
