Claims
- 1. A TPOAC mono-functional alcohol which is a polymer containing at least one ether group and a poly(oxyalkylenecarbonyl) chain derived from two or more different hydroxycarboxylic acids or lactones thereof.
- 2. A TPOAC mono-functional alcohol which is a copolymer of formulaRO&Brketopenst;(CO—A—O)n(CO—B—O)m]H (1) whereinR is a polymerisation terminating group containing at least one ether link; A and B are each, independently, different alkenylene groups or C1-17-alkylene groups optionally substituted by alkyl; n and m are each positive integers; and n+m is from 2 to 200.
- 3. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 1 wherein at least one of said two or more different hydroxycarboxylic acids or lactones is a hydroxycarboxylic acid.
- 4. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 3 wherein said hydroxycarboxylic acid is 12-hydroxystearic, ricinoleic, 12-hydroxydodecanoic, 5-hydroxydodecanoic, 5-hydroxydecanoic, 4-hydroxydecanoic, glycolic, lactic, 6-hydroxyhexanoic or 5-hydroxypentanoic acids.
- 5. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 1 wherein at least one of said two or more different hydroxycarboxylic acids or lactones is a lactone.
- 6. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 5 wherein said lactone is propiolactone, butyrolactone, δ-valerolactone, ε-caprolactone or alkyl-substituted ε-caprolactone.
- 7. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 6 wherein said alkyl-substituted ε-caprolactone is substituted with a linear or branched C1-8 alkyl group.
- 8. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 2 wherein R represents a residue of a mono-hydroxy glycol or a mono-hydroxy polyalkyleneglycol.
- 9. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 8 wherein said mono-hydroxy glycol or mono-hydroxy polyalkyleneglycol is derived from a C2-4 alkyleneoxide.
- 10. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 9 wherein said C2-4 alkyleneoxide includes ethylene oxide or propylene oxide.
- 11. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 2 wherein R is derived from a compound represented byT—OH wherein T is a substituted or unsubstituted C1-35 hydrocarbyl radical.
- 12. The TPOAC alcohol of claim 2, wherein R is the residue of tripropyleneglycolmonomethyl ether, dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether, triethylene glycolmonomethyl ether, methoxy propylene glycol or methoxyethylene glycol having a molecular weight between 250 and 750.
