Claims
- 36. An ethylene copolymer comprising repeating units of ethylene and at least one comonomer selected from a compound represented by the formula H2C═CHR wherein R is a C1-C20 linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group or a C6-C20 aryl group, and a C4-C20 linear, branched or cyclic diene, the ethylene copolymer is prepared by a process comprising copolymerizing said ethylene with said comonomer by continuous slurry polymerization in the presence of a solid catalyst system consisting essentially of: a support, a constrained geometry transition metal compound, and an activator capable of converting the constrained geometry transition metal compound into a catalytically active transition metal complex, wherein the activator is fixed or bonded to the support prior to the addition of the constrained geometry transition metal compound.
- 37. The ethylene copolymer of claim 36 wherein the support comprises an organometal compound wherein the metal is selected from Groups 2-13 of the Periodic Table of the Elements, germanium, tin, and lead.
- 38. The ethylene copolymer of claim 36 wherein the activator comprises (b-1) a cation which is capable of reacting with a transition metal compound to form a catalytically active transition metal complex and a compatible anion (b-2) having up to 100 nonhydrogen atoms and containing at least one substituent comprising an active hydrogen moiety.
- 39. The ethylene copolymer of claim 38 wherein the cation (b-1) is selected from the group consisting of Brønsted acidic cations, carbonium cations, silylium cations, and cationic oxidizing agents, and in the anion (b-2) the substitutent comprising an active hydrogen moiety corresponds to the following formula (IV):
- 40. The ethylene copolymer of claim 39 wherein the compatible anion portion of the activator compound corresponds to the following formula (V):
- 41. The ethylene copolymer of claim 36 wherein the constrained geometry transition metal compound contains at least one cyclic or noncyclic π-bonded anionic ligand group.
- 42. The ethylene copolymer of claim 36, wherein said constrained geometry transition metal compound is a bridged monocyclopentadienyl or mono (substituted cyclopentadienyl) transition metal compounds represented by: the following formula (VI):
- 43. The ethylene copolymer of claim 36, wherein the support material is selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, mixed oxides of silica and one or more Group 2 or 13 metal oxides, alumina, magnesia, and titania.
- 44. A fabricated article made from the ethylene copolymer of claim 36.
- 45. A fabricated article of claim 44, which is in the form of a film, fiber, or foam or sheet, or the result of a thermoforming, blow molding, injection molding and rotational molding process.
- 46. A fabricated article of claim 44, comprising pipes, tubing, cable or wire jackets, pipe coatings, geomembranes, thermoformed articles, stackable plastic pallets, blow molded bottles or containers, or environmental pond liners.
