Claims
- 1. A connection system for connecting a first item that includes a receiving portion defined at least partially by an abutment wall and a second item that includes an interference portion, the connection system comprising:
a. a biasing portion adjacent the abutment wall when the connection system is in use; and b. a locking portion adjacent the biasing portion, the locking portion including a locking section and an interference section that engages the interference portion when the connection system is in use, the locking section and interference section being capable of movement relative to one another.
- 2. The connection system of claim 1 wherein the locking section and the interference section are separate pieces that are adjacent one another when the connection system is in use.
- 3. The connection system of claim 2 wherein the locking section is connected to the biasing portion via a hinge.
- 4. The connection system of claim 2 wherein the interference section and the locking section each include an angled surface, the respective angled surfaces being placed adjacent one another when the connection system is in use.
- 5. The connection system of claim 1 wherein the biasing portion includes a biasing section consisting of an elastomeric material and an abutment section.
- 6. The connection system of claim 5 wherein the abutment section consists of a substantially non-elastomeric material.
- 7. The connection system of claim 1 wherein the interference portion comprises a notch defined within the first item and the interference section comprises a projection.
- 8. A connection system for connecting a first item that includes a receiving portion defined at least partially by an abutment wall and a second item that includes an interference portion, the connection system comprising:
a. a biasing portion adjacent the abutment wall when the connection system is in use; b. a locking portion adjacent the biasing portion that includes an angled surface; and c. an interference section adjacent the locking portion when the connection is in use and that engages the interference portion when the connection system is in use, the interference section including an angled surface that engages the angled surface of the locking portion when the connection system is in use.
- 9. The connection system of claim 8 wherein the locking portion and the interference section are separate pieces.
- 10. The connection system of claim 9 wherein the locking portion is connected to the biasing portion via a hinge.
- 11. The connection system of claim 10 wherein the interference portion comprises a notch defined within the first item and the interference section comprises a projection.
- 12. The connection system of claim 11 wherein the biasing portion includes a biasing section consisting of an elastomeric material and an abutment section.
- 13. The connection system of claim 12 wherein the abutment section consists of a substantially non-elastomeric material.
- 14. A bucket for an excavation apparatus, the bucket comprising a bucket body having a lip running longitudinally along a bottom front portion of the bucket body, at least one adaptor coupled to the lip and including a receiving portion defined therein that includes an abutment wall, and a tooth connected to the adaptor with a connection system and including an interference portion, the connection system comprising:
a. a biasing portion adjacent the abutment wall; and b. a locking portion adjacent the biasing portion, the locking portion including a locking section and an interference section that engages the interference portion, the locking section and interference section being capable of movement relative to one another.
- 15. The bucket of claim 14 wherein the locking section and the interference section are separate pieces that are adjacent one another.
- 16. The bucket of claim 15 wherein the locking section is connected to the biasing portion via a hinge.
- 17. The bucket of claim 15 wherein the interference section and the locking section each include an angled surface, the respective angled surfaces being placed adjacent one another.
- 18. The bucket of claim 14 wherein the biasing portion includes a biasing section consisting of an elastomeric material and an abutment section.
- 19. The bucket of claim 18 wherein the abutment section consists of a substantially non-elastomeric material.
- 20. The bucket of claim 14 wherein the interference portion comprises a notch defined within the tooth and the interference section comprises a projection.
- 21. A bucket for an excavation apparatus, the bucket comprising a bucket body having a lip running longitudinally along a bottom front portion of the bucket body, at least one adaptor coupled to the lip and including a receiving portion defined therein that includes an abutment wall, and a tooth connected to the adaptor with a connection system and including an interference portion, the connection system comprising:
a. a biasing portion adjacent the abutment wall; b. a locking portion adjacent the biasing portion that includes an angled surface; and c. an interference section adjacent the locking portion and that engages the interference portion, the interference section including an angled surface that engages the angled surface of the locking portion.
- 22. The bucket of claim 21 wherein the locking portion and the interference section are separate pieces.
- 23. The bucket of claim 22 wherein the locking portion is connected to the biasing portion via a hinge.
- 24. The bucket of claim 23 wherein the interference portion comprises a notch defined within the tooth and the interference section comprises a projection.
- 25. The bucket of claim 24 wherein the biasing portion includes a biasing section consisting of an elastomeric material and an abutment section.
- 26. The bucket of claim 25 wherein the abutment section consists of a substantially non-elastomeric material.
- 27. Excavating apparatus comprising at least one bucket, the bucket comprising a bucket body having a lip running longitudinally along a bottom front portion of the bucket body, at least one adaptor coupled to the lip and including a receiving portion defined therein that includes an abutment wall, and a tooth connected to the adaptor with a connection system and including an interference portion, the connection system comprising:
a. a biasing portion adjacent the abutment wall; b. a locking portion adjacent the biasing portion that includes an angled surface; and c. an interference section adjacent the locking portion and that engages the interference portion, the interference section including an angled surface that engages the angled surface of the locking portion.
- 28. The excavating apparatus of claim 27 wherein the locking portion and the interference section are separate pieces.
- 29. The excavating apparatus of claim 28 wherein the locking portion is connected to the biasing portion via a hinge.
- 30. The excavating apparatus of claim 29 wherein the interference portion comprises a notch defined within the tooth and the interference section comprises a projection.
- 31. The excavating apparatus of claim 30 wherein the biasing portion includes a biasing section consisting of an elastomeric material and an abutment section.
- 32. The excavating apparatus of claim 31 wherein the abutment section consists of a substantially non-elastomeric material.
- 33. A method of coupling a tooth to an adaptor connected to a bucket, the method comprising:
providing a receiving portion in the adaptor; providing an interference portion in the tooth; placing a connection system comprising a biasing portion, a locking portion and an interference section in the receiving portion; engaging the interference section with the interference portion; and biasing a surface of the locking portion against a surface of the interference section.
- 34. A method of replacing a tooth on a bucket wherein the tooth is coupled to an adaptor with a connection system that comprises a biasing portion, a locking portion and an interference section in the receiving portion, the method comprising:
disengaging a surface of the locking portion from a surface of the interference section; removing the tooth from adaptor; placing a new tooth on the adaptor such that an interference portion of the tooth engages the interference section; and biasing the surface of the locking portion against the surface of the interference section.
