Claims
- 1. An exchangeable flow cell comprising:
a shuttle, and a capillary carried by and having one end extending beyond said shuttle.
- 2. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 1 including means for accurately positioning the capillary in the shuttle.
- 3. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 2 in which the positioning means comprises spaced members which engage the capillary at spaced positions along the capillary.
- 4. An exchangeable flow cell comprising a shuttle body having an L-shaped region, and a capillary disposed at the bottom of said L-shaped region.
- 5. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 4 in which spaced protruding members are provided on each of the inside faces of said L-shaped region and said capillary engages said members to be accurately positioned in said shuttle.
- 6. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 5 in which said spaced protruding members comprise crossed pins.
- 7. A flow cytometer including a block having an L-shaped opening adapted to receive the exchangeable flow cell of claims 4 or 5, said opening including two flat surfaces engaged by said spaced protruding members or pins to position the capillary relative to the block.
- 8. A flow cytometer as in claim 7 in which the block includes means for urging the shuttle against the flat surfaces.
- 9. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 1 or 5 in which the capillary includes a mask having a slit through which light passes.
- 10. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 9 in which the mask is formed on the entrance wall of a rectangular capillary and a mask having spaced slits is formed on the opposite wall to pass light scattered by a particle or cell and block light traveling directly from the entrance slit.
- 11. An exchangeable flow cell as in claim 9 in which the mask is formed on the entrance wall of a rectangular capillary and masks are formed on the side wall with slits which coincide with the entrance slit whereby fluorescent light emitted by a particle in the light beam travels through the slits for detection.
