Abstract
An exercise device (10) intended to be fixed to an object such as a door assembly (11). The exercise device (10) includes a band (34) that includes a first band length (14) and a second band length (15). The lengths (14, 15) are resiliently deformed and are attached to the door assembly (11) through a coupling (25) and an anchor (26). An eyelet (23) forms part of the coupling (25), and provides for angular movement between the anchor (26) and the lengths (14, 15).

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

The present application claims priority to Australian Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 2015901157, filed on Mar. 31, 2015, the entirety of which is incorporated herein by reference.


FIELD

The present invention relates to exercise devices and more particularly to portable exercise devices.


BACKGROUND

A disadvantage of some known exercise devices is that they are generally large structures and are not portable. On the other hand, portable exercise devices suffer from the disadvantage that they do not provide for a range of exercises that may be required by the user.


Object of the Invention

It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate at least one of the above disadvantages.


SUMMARY OF INVENTION

There is disclosed herein an exercise device having longitudinal axis, the device including:


a resilient band portion having a first length and a second length, the length being tensioned by a person using the device to perform an exercise, the lengths having adjacent end portions from which the lengths diverge so that the longitudinal axis is located between the lengths;


an anchor to be fixed to an object so that the lengths may be tensioned by the person;


a coupling attaching the anchor to the end portions so that the lengths and anchor can move angularly relative to each other about a first pivot axis that is generally perpendicular to said longitudinal axis; and


a handle attached to each length, remote from the end portions, the handles being provided to be gripped by a user to tension the lengths.


Preferably, the band portion is a single band.


Preferably, said coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and anchor about a second pivot axis, the second pivot axis generally perpendicular to the first pivot axis and said longitudinal axis.


Preferably, the coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and the anchor about said longitudinal axis.


Preferably, said exercise device includes a first sleeve and a second sleeve, each sleeve substantially covering a respective one of the lengths.


Preferably, the anchor includes an anchor strap attached to the end portions, and a flange member attached to an end portion of the strap.

DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS

In the accompanying drawings there is schematically depicted an exercise device 10. The exercise device 10 is intended to be anchored to a fixed object such as a door assembly 11, window or other structure. In this embodiment the door assembly 11 includes a door jamb 12 and a pivotally mounted door panel 13.


The exercise device 10 is locatable in any position desired so that portion of the exercise device 10 is located between the panel 13 and door jamb 12 so that the exercise device 10 may be used.


The exercise device 10 includes a band portion 34 that includes a first band length 14 and a second band length 15. In this embodiment the band lengths 14 and 15 are provided by a single band.


The lengths 14 and 15 are resiliently deformable so that a user tensions the lengths 14 and 15 when performing an exercise.


The lengths 14 and 15 have adjacent end portions 16 which in this embodiment form a loop. The lengths 14 and 15 diverge form the end portions 16 so that the lengths 14 and 15 are located on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis 17 of the device 10.


Each length 14 and 15 has an end extremity to which there is attached a handle 18. The handles 18 are gripped by a user to tension the lengths 14 and 15.


Preferably each length 14 and 15 has an enlarged end portion 19, from which the length 14, 15 extends so as to extend through a flange 20 having an aperture 21 through which the length 14, 15 passes.


Surrounding each length 14, 15 is a sleeve 22. Should one or both of the lengths 14, 15 fail, then the length 14, 15 will retract into the sleeve 22 and not pose a safety risk in respect of the user.


As mentioned previously, the end portions 16 form a loop, with the loop passing through an eyelet 23. The loop is maintained in its configuration by a clip 24 that passes about the lengths 14, 15.


The eyelet 23 forms part of a coupling 25 that attaches an anchor 26 to the lengths 14, 15.


The eyelet 23 provides for angular movement between the anchor 26 and lengths 14, 15 about an axis 31. The axis 31 is generally perpendicular to the axis 17.


The anchor 26 includes a strap 27 that terminates with a flange 28. The flange 28 extends transversely outward relative to the axis 17 and engages on the other side of the door panel 13 relative to the lengths 14, 15.


The strap 27 is secured to the eyelet 23 by a further eyelet 29. The eyelet 29 provides for angular movement between the strap 27 and lengths 14, 15 about an axis 30. Preferably the eyelet 23 can rotate through 360 degrees. The axis 30 is generally perpendicular to the axis 17, as well as generally perpendicular relative to the axis 31.


The eyelet 23 and eyelet 27 are coupled to provide for relative angular movement therebetween about the axis 17.


Preferably the eyelet 23 is a clip enabling the eyelet 23 to be removed from the lengths 14, 15.


In use of the above exercise device 10, a user grips the handles 18 and tensions the lengths 14, 15 to perform an exercise. The anchor 26 secures the exercise device 10 to a fixed structure so that the lengths 14, 15 can be tensioned.


Advantages of the above described exercise device 10 include the ability of the device 10 to be used to perform a variety of exercises, while also being portable. Still further, the lengths 14, 15 can be interchanged with other lengths to adjust the resistance provided by the lengths 14, 15 to being tensioned. A further advantage of the above described exercise device 10, is the angular movement between the anchor 26 and the lengths 14, 15. A still further advantage of the


above described preferred embodiment is the sleeves 22, should one or both of the lengths 14, 15 fail, then the failed length will merely retract into the sleeve 22.


The above described exercise device 10 has the advantage, due to the eyelet 23, that it allows 360 degrees rotation of the band portion 34 (and therefore handles 18) about the axis 17 relative to the anchor 26.

Claims
  • 1. An exercise device having longitudinal axis, the device including: a resilient band portion having a first length and a second length, the length being tensioned by a person using the device to perform an exercise, the lengths having adjacent end portions from which the lengths diverge so that the longitudinal axis is located between the lengths;an anchor to be fixed to an object so that the lengths may be tensioned by the person;a coupling attaching the anchor to the end portions so that the lengths and anchor can move angularly relative to each other about a first pivot axis that is generally perpendicular to said longitudinal axis; anda handle attached to each length, remote from the end portions, the handles being provided to be gripped by a user to tension the lengths.
  • 2. The exercise device of claim 1, wherein the band portion is a single band.
  • 3. The exercise device of claim 1, wherein said coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and anchor about a second pivot axis, the second pivot axis generally perpendicular to the first pivot axis and said longitudinal axis.
  • 4. The exercise device of claim 1, wherein the coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and the anchor about said longitudinal axis.
  • 5. The exercise device of claim 1, further including a first sleeve and a second sleeve, each sleeve substantially covering a respective one of the lengths.
  • 6. The exercise device of claim 1, wherein the anchor includes an anchor strap attached to the end portions, and a flange member attached to an end portion of the strap.
  • 7. The exercise device of claim 2, wherein said coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and anchor about a second pivot axis, the second pivot axis generally perpendicular to the first pivot axis and said longitudinal axis.
  • 8. The exercise device of claim 2, wherein the coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and the anchor about said longitudinal axis.
  • 9. The exercise device of claim 2, further including a first sleeve and a second sleeve, each sleeve substantially covering a respective one of the lengths.
  • 10. The exercise device of claim 2, wherein the anchor includes an anchor strap attached to the end portions, and a flange member attached to an end portion of the strap.
  • 11. The exercise device of claim 3, wherein the coupling provides for angular movement between the lengths and the anchor about said longitudinal axis.
  • 12. The exercise device of claim 3, further including a first sleeve and a second sleeve, each sleeve substantially covering a respective one of the lengths.
  • 13. The exercise device of claim 3, wherein the anchor includes an anchor strap attached to the end portions, and a flange member attached to an end portion of the strap.
  • 14. The exercise device of claim 4, further including a first sleeve and a second sleeve, each sleeve substantially covering a respective one of the lengths.
  • 15. The exercise device of claim 4, wherein the anchor includes an anchor strap attached to the end portions, and a flange member attached to an end portion of the strap.
  • 16. The exercise device of claim 5, wherein the anchor includes an anchor strap attached to the end portions, and a flange member attached to an end portion of the strap.
