Claims
- 1. A method of forming an exhaust gas sensor support member comprising the steps of:
- extruding an elongated tube of green alumina ceramic material;
- providing the tube with a plurality of substantially parallel longitudinally extending through passages;
- prefiring the tube until the green ceramic is machinable;
- machining one end of the tube of machinable green ceramic to form a cup-shaped end portion having a threaded outer surface;
- providing the inner surface of the cup-shaped end portion with a pair of transversly disposed confronting longitudinally extending sensor receiving slots; and
- final firing the tube.
- 2. The process of claim 1 where prefiring occurs at a temperature of about 1300.degree. F for a period of about one hour.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein final firing occurs at a temperature of about 2700.degree. F for about two hours.
