Claims
- 1. A conveying system including a product conveyor belt adapted to be driven over an endless path having an upward helical portion and a return portion, said conveyor belt including rods and spacer plates having plate portions and upper belt support tabs at the top of said plate portions, and an exit means for guiding said conveyor belt off of said upward helical portion to said return portion, wherein the improvement comprises:
- said exit means including a pair of rails engaging underneath said tabs to thereby lift said conveyor belt off of said upward helical portion.
- 2. The conveying system of claim 1 wherein said rails include a pair of parallel bars and friction reducing caps on top of said bars.
- 3. The conveying system of claim 2 wherein said exit means includes a tube, said bars are secured to said tube and said caps are positioned inside of said tube.
- 4. The conveying system of claim 2 wherein said bars have their lowermost surfaces positioned above said rods.
- 5. The conveying system of claim 1 wherein said exit means includes cantilevered support means for supporting said conveyor belt beneath it and at the belt edge opposite to said spacer plates.
- 6. A conveying system comprising:
- a product conveyor belt adapted to be driven over an endless path having an upward helical portion and a return portion, said conveyor belt including rods and spacer plates having plate portions and upper belt support tabs at the top of said plate portions; and
- guide means for guiding said conveyor belt from said return portion to said upward helical portion, said guide means including a pair of rails engaging underneath said tabs to thereby lift said conveyor belt on to said upward helical portion.
- 7. The conveying system of claim 6 wherein said rails include a pair of parallel bars and friction reducing caps on top of said bars.
- 8. The conveying system of claim 7 wherein said guide means includes a tube, said bars are secured to said tube and said caps are positioned inside of said tube.
- 9. The conveying system of claim 7 wherein said bars have their lowermost surfaces positioned above said rods.
- 10. The conveying system of claim 7 wherein said guide means includes cantilevered support means for supporting said conveyor belt beneath it and at the belt edge opposite to said spacer plates.
- 11. A conveying system comprising:
- path means defining an endless path having a helical portion and a return portion;
- a conveyor belt including rods and spacer plates associated with said rods, said spacer plates including plate body portions and at least one tab at the tops of said plate body portions, some of said tabs of said conveyor belt being directed in an inboard belt direction and other of said tabs being directed in an opposite outboard belt direction;
- driving means for driving said conveyor belt along said endless path; and
- engaging means for engaging said inboard and outboard tabs and thereby supporting at least a portion of said conveyor belt as it is driven by said driving means between said helical and return portions.
- 12. The conveying system of claim 11 wherein said engaging means lifts, via said inboard and outboard tabs, said conveyor belt from said return portion to said helical portion.
- 13. The conveying system of claim 11 wherein said engaging means lifts, via said inboard and outboard tabs, said conveyor belt from said helical portion to said return portion.
- 14. The conveying system of claim 11 wherein said engaging means engages underneath said inboard and outboard tabs.
- 15. The conveying system of claim 14 wherein said engaging means includes a pair of bars, each having friction reducing top surfaces.
- 16. The conveying system of claim 15 wherein said bars have their lowermost surfaces positioned above said rods.
- 17. The conveying system of claim 11 further comprising said conveyor belt having belt first and second edges, said spacer plates being positioned generally along said belt first edge, and cantilevered support means for supporting at least in part said conveyor belt along said belt second edge.
