Claims
- 1. An expandable shoe, comprising:
a front outer assembly; a rear outer assembly; an expandable segment attached to the front and rear outer assemblies to define a shoe outer shell wherein the flexible segment extends at least partially along each side of the outer shell and transversely across the bottom of the outer shell; and an adjustable inner assembly, disposed within the outer shell and attached to the front and rear outer assembly, the inner assembly having a control to adjust a dimension of the inner assembly and thereby a corresponding dimension of the shoe.
- 2. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the inner assembly forms a last board having a front board portion and rear board portion and a screw drive with a first piece of the screw drive attached to the front portion and a second piece of the screw drive attached to the second portion and an externally accessible screw passing through the first piece and engaging the second piece so that turning the screw causes the first and second portions to move relative to one another.
- 3. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the outer shell includes a heel portion having a recess therein and wherein the first board portion is anchored into the recess of the heel portion of the outer shell.
- 4. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the second board portion is at least partially positioned within the recess, the recess being sufficiently large to allow adjustable movement of the second board portion within the recess.
- 5. An adjustable last board assembly, comprising
a first board portion; a second board portion; a screw mount attached to the first board portion having a conduit therethrough; and a screw-receiving mount attached to the second board portion, the screw receiving mount having a threaded opening, the opening being in alignment with the conduit so that a screw may pass through the conduit into the opening and be rotated to adjust the relative position of the first and second board portions.
- 6. The last board of claim 5 wherein the first board portion includes a heel-shaped segment and the second board portion includes a toe-shaped segment, and wherein the first board portion is shaped to receive the second board portion in longitudinal alignment therewith.
- 7. An expandable shoe, comprising:
an outer shell; and an adjustable inner assembly, disposed within the outer shell, the inner assembly forming a last board having a front board portion and rear board portion and a screw drive with a first piece of the screw drive attached to the front portion and a second piece of the screw drive attached to the second portion and an externally accessible screw passing through the first piece and engaging the second piece so that turning the screw causes the first and second portions to move relative to one another.
- 8. The shoe of claim 1 wherein the outer shell includes an expandable lace retaining assembly.
- 9. The shoe of claim 8 wherein the lace retaining assembly includes eyelets sewn into a stretchable material.
- 10. The shoe of claim 8 wherein the lace retaining assembly includes
a hinged piece having two members, one of which defines a recess and the other of which defines a series of slots; a hook piece having a series of raised lace hooks, the hook piece and hinged piece slidably engageable with one another so as to orient the lace hooks with a subset of the slots.
- 11. The shoe of claim 8 wherein the lace retaining assembly includes a first belt piece attached to the front outer assembly, a second belt piece attached to the rear outer assembly, and a buckle attached to one of the first and second buckle pieces, wherein the buckle includes a curved section for holding a lace.
- 12. Footwear, comprising:
a foot dressing; and an adjustable assembly, at least a portion of which is connected to the foot dressing, the adjustable assembly having a first member and a second member in overlapping engagement with each other and a screw drive with a first piece of the screw drive attached to the first member and a second piece of the screw drive attached to the second member and an externally accessible screw passing through the first piece and engaging the second piece so that turning the screw causes the first and second members to move relative to one another.
- 13. The shoe of claim 12 wherein the outer shell includes a heel portion having a recess therein and wherein the first member is anchored into the recess of the heel portion of the outer shell.
- 14. The shoe of claim 12 wherein the second member is at least partially positioned within the recess, the recess being sufficiently large to allow adjustable movement of the second member within the recess.
- 15. The footwear of claim 12 wherein the foot dressing has a front portion, a rear portion, and an expandable segment attached to the front and rear portions to define an outer shell and wherein the expandable segment extends at least partially along each side of the outer shell and transversely across the bottom of the outer shell.
- 16. The footwear of claim 12 wherein the screw requires only manual, tool-less operation to adjust a dimension of the inner assembly.
- 17. Footwear, comprising:
a foot dressing having an upper portion and a sole; and an adjustable inner assembly, at least a portion of which contacts the sole, the inner assembly having a first member, a second member and a screw drive with a first piece of the screw drive attached to the first member and a second piece of the screw drive attached to the second member and an externally accessible screw passing through the first piece and engaging the second piece so that turning the screw causes the first and second members to move relative to one another.
- 18. The footwear of claim 17 wherein the screw requires only manual, tool-less operation to adjust a dimension of the inner assembly.
- 19. The shoe of claim 15 wherein the outer shell includes an expandable lace retaining assembly.
- 20. The shoe of claim 19 wherein the lace retaining assembly includes eyelets sewn into a stretchable material.
- 21. The shoe of claim 19 wherein the lace retaining assembly includes
a hinged piece having two members, one of which defines a recess and the other of which defines a series of slots; a hook piece having a series of raised lace hooks, the hook piece and hinged piece slidably engageable with one another so as to orient the lace hooks with a subset of the slots.
- 22. The shoe of claim 19 wherein the lace retaining assembly includes a first belt piece attached to the front outer assembly, a second belt piece attached to the rear outer assembly, and a buckle attached to one of the first and second belt pieces, wherein the buckle includes a curved section for holding a lace.
