Claims
- 1. An expandable supportive endoluminal graft, comprising:
- a tubular supporting component with a longitudinal axis, an internal surface, and an external surface, said tubular supporting component having a network of land areas with open areas defined between said land areas, said tubular supporting component being expandable from a first diameter at which the expandable supportive endoluminal graft is insertable into a body pathway to a second diameter, said second diameter being greater than said first diameter;
- a liner constructed of an essentially inert biocompatible material, said liner applied to said internal surfaces; and
- a cover constructed of an essentially inert biocompatible material, said cover applied to said external surface;
- wherein said liner is bonded to said cover at locations defined by said open areas of the tubular supporting component; and
- said liner and said cover are both made from a porous elastomeric material that provides a structure which allows normal cellular ingrowth, said porous elastomeric material selected from the group consisting of grafts constructed by electrostatic spinning of polymeric fibers, elution of particulate materials from polymeric sheeting, and solvent phase inversion from polymeric sheeting.
- 2. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said porous elastomeric material is an elastomeric polymer.
- 3. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said porous elastomeric material is a polycarbonate urethane.
- 4. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 3, wherein said porous elastomeric material is coated with a thin layer of silicone rubber.
- 5. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said liner coverings substantially all of the internal surface of the tubular supporting component and said cover is over substantially all of said external surface of the tubular supporting component.
- 6. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein an exposed longitudinal end of said tubular supporting component extends longitudinally beyond and is not completed covered by said cover.
- 7. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said cover has a longitudinal length less than that of said tubular supporting component in order to thereby define an exposed end of the tubular supporting component.
- 8. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 7, wherein said cover has a longitudinal length less than that, of said tubular supporting component whereby said exposed end is free of said cover.
- 9. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said a liner has a longitudinal length less than that of said tubular supporting component in order to thereby define an exposed end of the tubular supporting component.
- 10. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, further including a staple component that passes through one of said open areas of said tubular supporting component.
- 11. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, further including a window opening through said stretchable wall.
- 12. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 11, wherein said window opening is through said tubular supporting component.
- 13. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said land areas of the tubular supporting component comprise a plurality of braided wires with said open areas therebetween.
- 14. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said land areas of the tubular supporting component are generally sinusoidally configured wire that is helically wound into the tubular supporting component, said wire defining therebetween said open areas of the tubular supporting component.
- 15. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said land areas of the tubular supporting component are shaped as intersecting elongated lengths integral with each other and defining said openings therebetween to form a mesh-shaped tubular supporting component.
- 16. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein the endoluminal graft is subjected to surface treatment for enhanced bicompatibility or for drug therapy.
- 17. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said expandable supportive endoluminal graft is sized for endovascular use.
- 18. The expandable supportive endoluminal graft in accordance with claim 1, wherein said expandable supportive endoluminal graft is sized for use within body systems selected from the group consisting of venous circulation, tracheobronchial tree, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems.
