Claims
- 1. A composite structure comprising:
- a fiber mat having front and rear faces and two side edges; and
- a polymeric material impregnant distributed substantially throughout said fiber mat wherein each fiber of said fiber mat is substantially completely coated by said polymeric material, said polymeric material forming a substantially monolithic structure holding said fiber mat in partial compression, at least one of said front and rear faces forming a non-porous surface and both of said side edges forming porous surfaces, said fiber mat being formed in a coiled, substantially cylindrical shape where said at least one face forms a non-porous outer cylindrical wall and each of said side edges forms a porous cylinder end.
- 2. A composite structure as defined in claim 1 wherein said fiber mat of said structure comprises a plurality of glass fibers and said polymeric material comprises a thermoplastic polymeric material.
- 3. A composite structure as defined in claim 2 wherein said porous cylinder ends are so constructed and arranged to be used as a filter media.
- 4. A composite structure as defined in claim 1 wherein said fiber mat comprises a plurality of conductive metal fibers.
