Claims
- 1. A method for making a unitary label suitable for attachment to an object having a circumference, said method comprising the steps of:
forming said label having first and second contiguous label portions, wherein said first and second label portions each have top and bottom surfaces, and wherein said first and second label portions have a combined length which is greater than the circumference of said object; printing ink on at least one of said top surface of said first label portion and said top surface of said second label portion and said bottom surface of said second label portion; and applying pressure sensitive adhesive to said bottom surface of said first label portion.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said label comprises at least one of a tab protruding from said second portion and a notch in said first portion for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said second label portion from said first label portion when said label is affixed to said object.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of said label portions comprises means for evidencing potential tampering of said object to which said label is affixed.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the label includes first and second substantially oppositely disposed edges, the first edge having a different length than the second edge and the first portion is oriented at an oblique angle relative to the second portion.
- 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of applying releasable adhesive to said bottom surface of said second label portion so as to allow said second label portion to be selectively and repeatedly adhered to said first label portion.
- 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of applying protective material over at least on of said first and second label portions not bearing said pressure sensitive or releasable adhesive.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein said forming step comprises the steps of:
feeding a web comprising substrate material from which said label is formed; applying said bottom surface of said first label portion bearing said pressure sensitive adhesive to said release; and die cutting said first and second label portions to form a label blank.
- 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the steps of:
stripping label substrate waste from said release paper; and rewinding said release paper bearing said label blanks into a roll or other convenient form for later application of said labels to said object.
- 9. A method for making a unitary label from a pressure sensitive adhesive material, said material comprising a substrate web releasably affixed to release paper by a pressure sensitive adhesive, said label being suitable for attachment to an object having a circumference, said method comprising the steps of:
removing said release paper from said pressure sensitive adhesive material; preparing select surface areas of said substrate web for application of indicia or inks; printing said inks or indicia on select surfaces of said substrate web; and reapplying said release paper to said pressure sensitive adhesive material.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said preparation step comprises deadening.
- 11. The method of claim 9, further comprising the step of applying protective material to said indicia or inks.
- 12. The method of claim 9, wherein said label comprises at least one of a tab protruding from said second portion and a notch in said first portion for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said second label portion from said first label portion when said label is affixed to said object.
- 13. The method of claim 9, wherein at least one of said label portions comprises means for evidencing potential tampering of said object to which said label is affixed.
- 14. The method of claim 9, the label includes first and second substantially oppositely disposed edges, the first edge has a different length than the second edge and the first portion is oriented at an oblique angle relative to the second portion.
- 15. A method for making a device for labeling an object having a periphery, said method comprising:
providing a substantially planar member having oppositely disposed first and second surfaces, a length greater than the periphery of the object and a tab portion protruding from said member for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of the object; printing indicia on at least one of a portion of said first surface and a portion of said second surface; and applying an adhesive suitable for affixing said device about said periphery of the object
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein said adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
- 17. The method of claim 15, further comprising applying a releasable adhesive to a portion of said second surface for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
- 18. The method of claim 15, further comprising applying a protective material to at least one portion of said member not bearing adhesive.
- 19. The method of claim 15, further comprising partially deadening at least a portion of said adhesive.
- 20. The method of claim 15, further comprising substantially completely deadening said adhesive applied to said tab.
- 21. The method of claim 15, further comprising providing at least one perforation in said planar member.
- 22. The method of claim 21, wherein said perforation is positioned to facilitate separation of a part of said member from at least one other part of said member.
- 23. The method of claim 22, wherein at least one of said parts is suitable for providing potential tamper evidencing of an object to which said device is affixed about.
- 24. The method of claim 15, wherein said member further comprises a recessed edge corresponding to said protruding tab for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
- 25. The method of claim 24, wherein at least one of said parts is suitable for providing potential tamper evidencing of an object to which said device is affixed about.
- 26. A method for making a device for labeling an object having a periphery, said method comprising:
providing a substantially planar member having oppositely disposed first and second surfaces, a length greater than the periphery of said object and a recessed edge for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object; printing indicia on at least one of a portion of said first surface and a portion of said second surface; and applying a pressure sensitive adhesive suitable for affixing said device about said periphery of said object to at least a portion of said second surface.
- 27. The method of claim 26, further comprising applying a releasable adhesive to a portion of said second surface for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
- 28. The method of claim 26, further comprising applying a protective material to at least one portion of said member not bearing adhesive.
- 29. The method of claim 26, further comprising partially deadening at least a portion of said adhesive.
- 30. The method of claim 26, further comprising providing at least one perforation in said planar member.
- 31. The method of claim 30, wherein said perforation is positioned to facilitate separation of a part of said member from at least one other part of said member.
- 32. The method of claim 31, wherein at least one of said parts is suitable for providing potential tamper evidencing of an object to which said device is affixed about.
- 33. A method for making a device for labeling an object having a periphery, said method comprising:
providing a substantially planar member having oppositely disposed first and second surfaces, a length greater than the periphery of said object and a portion for evidencing potential tampering of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object; printing indicia on at least one of a portion of said first surface and a portion of said second surface; and applying a pressure sensitive adhesive suitable for affixing said device about said periphery of said object to at least a portion of said second surface.
- 34. The method of claim 33, further comprising applying a releasable adhesive to a portion of said second surface for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
- 35. The method of claim 33, further comprising applying a protective material to at least one portion of said member not bearing adhesive.
- 36. The method of claim 33, further comprising partially deadening at least a portion of said adhesive.
- 37. The method of claim 33, further comprising providing at least one perforation in said planar member.
- 38. The method of claim 37, wherein said perforation is positioned to facilitate separation of a part of said member from at least one other part of said member.
- 39. A method for making a device for labeling an object having a periphery, said method comprising:
providing a substantially planar member having oppositely disposed first and second surfaces, a length greater than the periphery of said object and a first edge having a different length than a second edge such that a first portion of the member is oriented at an oblique angle relative to a second portion. printing indicia on at least one of a portion of said first surface and a portion of said second surface; and applying a pressure sensitive adhesive suitable for affixing said device about said periphery of said object to at least a portion of said second surface.
- 40. The method of claim 39, further comprising applying a releasable adhesive to a portion of said second surface for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
- 41. The method of claim 39, further comprising applying a protective material to at least one portion of said member not bearing adhesive.
- 42. The method of claim 39, further comprising partially deadening at least a portion of said adhesive.
- 43. The method of claim 39, wherein said member further comprises a tab for facilitiating reattachable at least partial separation of said device from an object about which it has been affixed.
- 44. The method of claim 43, further comprising substantially completely deadening said adhesive applied to said tab.
- 45. The method of claim 39, wherein said member further comprises a recessed edge corresponding to said protruding tab for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
- 46. The method of claim 45, wherein said member further comprises a tab for facilitiating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from an object about which it has been affixed.
- 47. The method of claim 46, wherein at least one of said parts is suitable for providing potential tamper evidencing of an object to which said device is affixed about.
- 48. The method of claim 39, further comprising providing at least one perforation in said planar member.
- 49. The method of claim 48, wherein said perforation is positioned to facilitate separation of a part of said member from at least one other part of said member.
- 50. The method of claim 49, wherein at least one of said parts is suitable for providing potential tamper evidencing of an object to which said device is affixed about.
- 51. The method of claim 50, wherein said member further comprises a recessed edge for facilitating re-attachable at least partial separation of said device from said periphery of said object when said device is affixed about said periphery of said object.
