Claims
- 1. An apparatus for assisting in actively guiding an endless side-flexing modular link conveyor belt along first and second guide rails defining forward and return runs for the belt, comprising:at least one roller assembly mounted external to one of said first and second guide rails; said belt including a plurality of first and second guide links for engaging said first and second guide rails, each said guide link along the first side of said belt having a depending arm; said roller assembly including first and second rollers, each of said rollers contacting and engaging said depending arm on each of said guide links along the forward and return runs, respectively, whereby low friction rolling contact between said first and second rollers and said depending arms on said respective first guide links actively guides the belt and reduces the friction on the guide links.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said first guide rail is positioned along and forms an inside curve.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said first and second rollers are provided with a peripheral lip for assisting in supporting said guide links.
- 4. A conveyor system, comprising:an endless side-flexing modular link conveyor belt having a forward and a return run, said conveyor belt including a plurality of guide links, each having a depending arm; a first guide rail for engaging said depending arm on said guide links along a first side of said conveyor belt along both the forward and return runs; a second guide rail for guiding a second side of said conveyor belt along both the forward and return runs; at least one roller assembly including a first roller and a second roller for contacting an external face of said depending arm on the forward and return runs adjacent to said first guide rail; and drive means to impart motion to said conveyor belt, whereby said roller assembly reduces the frictional drag force acting on said side-flexing modular link conveyor belt.
- 5. The conveyor system according to claim 4, wherein the depending arm on said plurality of guide links carries an inwardly extending transverse tab for at least partially engaging a peripheral lip on each of said rollers.
- 6. The conveyor system of claim 4, whereinsaid system further includes a plurality of roller assemblies positioned adjacent to said first passive guide rail.
- 7. The conveyor system of claim 6, wherein said plurality of roller assemblies includes corresponding articulated members for coupling said roller assemblies together, whereby said articulated members allow for the adjustment of the relative position of said roller assemblies.
- 8. The conveyor system of claim 4, wherein said first passive guide rail defines an inside curve in said conveyor system and said second passive guide rail defines a corresponding outside curve.
