Claims
- 1. An organic extracting solution for separating actinides from lanthanides which is comprised of:
- a. a primary ligand which is a substituted monothio-1,3-dicarbonyl having substituents chosen from a class consisting of alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, aryl groups, aroxy groups, and alkylamine groups, where said substituted monothio-1,3-dicarbonyl is an acyclic compound or a cyclic compound with an acyl group attached to the ring at a ring position adjacent to a ring thiocarbonyl or a cyclic compound with a thioacyl group attached to the ring at a ring position adjacent to
- a ring carbonyl; and
- b. a secondary ligand which is a substituted phosphine oxide having substituents chosen from a class consisting of alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, aryl groups, aroxy groups, 2-pyridyl-N-oxide groups, carbamoylmethylene groups having either one or two alkyl or aryl groups substituted at the nitrogen atom, and phosphorylmethylene groups having two alkyl or aryl groups substituted at the phosphorous atom.
- 2. The extracting solution of claim 1 further comprising an organic solvent.
- 3. The extracting solution of claim 1 wherein the concentration of the primary ligand divided by the concentration of the secondary ligand is in the range of about 2 to about 24.
- 4. The extracting solution of claim 1 wherein said secondary ligand is TOPO.
- 5. The extracting solution of claim 1 further comprising a secondary primary ligand.
- 6. The extracting solution of claim 1 further comprising a second secondary ligand.
- 7. An organic extracting solution for separating actinides from lanthanides which is comprised of:
- a. a primary ligand chosen from a class consisting of substituted 4-acyl-2-pyrazolin-5-thiones and substituted 4-thioacyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones, where substituents are chosen from a class consisting of alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, aryl groups, aroxy groups, acyl groups, and alkylamine groups; and
- b. a secondary ligand which is a substituted phosphine oxide having substituents chosen from a class consisting of alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, aryl groups, aroxy groups, 2-pyridyl-N-oxide groups, carbamoylmethylene groups having either one or two alkyl or aryl groups substituted at the nitrogen atom, and phosphorylmethylene groups having two alkyl or aryl groups substituted at the phosphorous atom.
- 8. The extracting solution of claim 7 further comprising an organic solvent.
- 9. The extracting solution of claim 7 wherein said primary ligand is BMPPT.
- 10. The extracting solution of claim 7 wherein said primary ligand is TBMPP.
- 11. The extracting solution of claim 7 wherein said secondary ligand is TOPO.
- 12. The extracting solution of claim 7 wherein the concentration of the primary ligand divided by the concentration of the secondary ligand is in the range of about 2 to about 24.
