Claims
- 1. A device for extracting a biological fluid, comprising:
a) a first flexible tube including a constriction area and a pre-determined cross-section, the first flexible tube operable to transport a biological fluid; b) a second flexible tube including a constriction area and a pre-determined cross section, the second flexible tube operable to transport an additive solution; c) a collecting bag operable to receive the first flexible tube and the second flexible tube, such that the biological fluid and the additive solution are deposited therein; and d) at least one pump coupled to the first flexible tube and the second flexible tube operably to partially constrict the first flexible tube and to partially constrict the second flexible tube at a substantially uniform rate; wherein the additive solution and the biological fluid are deposited in the collecting bag in volumes proportionally determined by the ratio between the pre-determined cross-sections of the first flexible tube and the second flexible tube; and wherein the additive solution is substantially restricted from passing upstream of the constriction area of the first flexible tube.
- 2. The device of claim 1 further comprising a removal component for the removal of the biological fluid from a source operably connected to the first flexible tube.
- 3. The device of claim 1 further comprising an additive bag in which additive solution is located operably connected to the second flexible tube.
- 4. The device of claim 1 wherein the pump comprises a peristaltic pump.
- 5. The device of claim 1 wherein the biological fluid is blood and the additive solution comprises an anticoagulant or preservation solution.
- 6. The device of claim 2 wherein the anticoagulant or preservation solution comprises CPD.
- 7. The device of claim 4, wherein the peristaltic pump is operable to constrict the first and second flexible tubes simultaneously.
- 8. The device of claim 1, wherein the additive solution and biological fluid are deposited in the collecting bag substantially simultaneously.
- 9. The device of claim 1 further comprising a junction downstream of the constriction area of the first flexible tube whereby the first flexible tube and the second flexible tube are operably connected to a third tube wherein the third tube is additionally connected to an input port of the collecting bag.
- 10. The device of claim 4 wherein the peristaltic pump comprises a motor which actuates a shaft on which two substantially identical cylindrical rotors operable to constrict the first or second flexible tubes are mounted.
- 11. The device of claim 1 wherein the first and second flexible tubes are associated in a sealed fashion in a third tube operably connected to an input port of the collecting bag.
- 12. The device of claim 11 wherein the first and second flexible tubes are closed downstream of the constriction areas and wherein the biological fluid and additive solution are deposited in the collecting bag by way of the third tube.
- 13. The device of claim 1 wherein the second tube in introduced inside the first tube in a sealed fashion upstream of the constriction area of the first flexible tube.
- 14. The device of claim 13 wherein the second tube is closed downstream of the constriction area of the first flexible tube and the biological fluid and additive solution are deposited in the collecting bag by way of the first tube.
- 15. The device of claim 11, wherein the pump is a peristaltic pump comprising a motor which actuates a shaft on which a cylindrical rotor carrying at least one roller operable to constrict the first and second flexible tubes is mounted.
- 16. The device of claim 1, wherein the ratio between the cross-sections of the second flexible tube and the first flexible tube is between approximately 0.05 and 0.5.
- 17. The device of claim 1, wherein the ratio between the cross-sections of the second flexible tube and the first flexible tube is approximately 0.14.
- 18. A method for extracting a biological fluid, comprising the steps of:
a) transporting the biological fluid through a first flexible tube including a pre-determined cross-section; b) depositing the biological fluid in a collecting bag; c) transporting an additive solution through a second flexible tube including a pre-determined cross-section; and d) depositing the biological fluid in the collecting bag; e) partially constricting the first flexible tube in a constriction area and the second flexible tube in a constriction area at a uniform rate; wherein the additive solution and the biological fluid are deposited in the collecting bag in volumes proportionally determined by the ratio between the pre-determined cross-sections of the first flexible tube and the second flexible tube; and wherein the additive solution is substantially restricted from passing upstream of the constriction area of the first flexible tube.
- 19. The method of claim 18 further comprising the step of removing the biological fluid from a source using a removal component.
- 20. The method of claim 18 wherein the additive solution is located in an additive bag prior to transport.
- 21. The method of claim 18 wherein the first and second flexible tubes are partially constricted by a pump.
- 22. The method of claim 21 wherein the pump is a peristaltic pump.
- 23. The method of claim 18 wherein the biological fluid is blood and the additive solution comprises an anticoagulant or preservation solution.
- 24. The method of claim 23 wherein the anticoagulant or preservation solution comprises CPD.
- 25. The method of claim 18, wherein first and second flexible tubes are constricted substantially simultaneously.
- 26. The method of claim 18, wherein the steps of depositing the biological fluid in the collecting bag and depositing the additive solution in the collecting bag are substantially simultaneous.
- 27. The method of claim 18, wherein the ratio between the cross-sections of the second flexible tube and the first flexible tube is between approximately 0.05 and 0.5.
- 28. The method of claim 18, wherein the ratio between the cross-sections of the second flexible tube and the first flexible tube is approximately 0.14.
