1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates generally to the cosmetic appliance field and more specifically to an appliance which is configured to be worn on the face like a frame of a pair of glasses and serves as an adjustable eyebrow guide for shaving, shaping, cutting, coloring and otherwise cosmetically treating the eyebrows.
2. Background Art
The trimming of eyebrows is considered a desirable behavior characteristic in many western cultures. In particular, the desired shape and thickness of eyebrows is an appearance feature that often changes with the seasons just as hairstyles or clothing styles. Accordingly, people, especially women, find it desirable to trim the eyebrows to accomplish the desired style objective.
One method for trimming the eyebrows is to pluck individual eyebrow hairs with a tweezer. This is an uncomfortable and time-consuming method since each hair is removed by pulling the root of the hair from the skin.
Another widely used method for trimming eyebrows is to wax the eyebrows with hot wax. In this method, hot wax is applied to the skin along the line of the desired eyebrow shape and the wax is allowed to cool. Eyebrow hair sticks to the wax and the cooled wax and hair is ripped off the skin. This method can be painful. Furthermore, it is difficult for a person to wax their own eyebrows since it is difficult to see the desired line during application of the wax.
Eyebrow shaving is known, but is less commonly used. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 2,127,010 issued to Sampson on Aug. 16, 1938 shows a miniature eyebrow razor with relatively flat upper and lower clamping plates. A relatively flat blade is disposed between the plates and is of a slightly larger size in order to project beyond the edges of the plates to prevent obstruction of the cutting edge portion of the blade from view when the razor is in use. The blade is sufficiently narrow to enable shaving between the eyebrow and the eye without obstructing the vision of the user. The razor also includes a handle and means for holding the plates and blade to the handle.
Not shown in the relevant prior art, is an adjustable guide which can be used to provide a template for shaving, shaping, cutting, coloring or otherwise cosmetically treating the eyebrows. Such a guide would be particularly useful if it could be worn on the face so that it didn't need to be supported by the user's hands and if it were adjustable so that it could accommodate many different shapes of eyebrows as well as different facial dimensions and configurations.
The present invention, in its preferred embodiment, discloses an eyebrow guide configured as an adjustable facial frame designed to be centered over the nose and having a pair of selectively shaped and positioned eyebrow templates for use in guiding the appliance used to shape, color, shave, cut or otherwise cosmetically treat the user's eyebrows. The frame comprises a nosepiece designed to overly the nose to both center and stabilize the guide. The frame also has a pair of opposed side members which extend from the nosepiece toward and over the ears in a manner similar to conventional eyeglass frames to further stabilize and support the guide. Intermediate of the eyebrow templates and the nose piece is a three-piece, double hinged member designed to provide adjustment for virtually any facial dimensions in regard to distance between the eyebrows and the nose as well as their relative depth. In addition, the upper portion of this double-hinged member provides a dial for eyebrow angle adjustment for the templates. Typically, the higher the angle the more exotic the eyebrows appear and the lower the angle, the more conventional they appear.
The aforementioned objects and advantages of the present invention, as well as additional objects and advantages thereof, will be more fully understood herein after as a result of a detailed description of a preferred embodiment when taken in conjunction with the following drawings in which:
Referring to the accompanying drawings, including
The nosepiece 14 is connected to an adjustment member 32 through a pair of vertical extensions 24 and 28 and three hinges 22, 26 and 30. The vertical extensions 24, 28 may be of the type which can be altered in length by a telescopic action. The vertical extensions 24, 28 and hinges 22, 26, 30 cooperate to permit substantial adjustment of the distance between the nosepiece and the adjustment member 32 as well as the relative forward and rearward position of -the adjustment member to accommodate virtually any facial dimensions and virtually any eyebrow positions relative to the user's nose.
The adjustment member 32 receives a pair of eyebrow templates 36 which as seen in
It will now be understood that the present invention comprises an eyebrow guide having an adjustable frame for positioning a pair of eyebrow templates to facilitate cosmetic treatment, shaving, trimming or other guided manipulation of the eyebrows.
