Various embodiments concern artificial eyelashes and, more specifically, artificial eyelash extensions configured for an arrangement at natural eyelashes to create an appearance of eyeliner.
False eyelash extensions have conventionally been used to enhance the length, thickness, and fullness of natural eyelashes. False eyelash extensions, however, must be applied to an individual's natural eyelashes one by one to avoid having the eyelash extensions stick together. Consequently, false lash extension services can cost hundreds of dollars depending on the type and number of lashes used, the skill of the cosmetician, and the venue where the false eyelash extensions are applied. It usually takes an experienced cosmetician one to two hours to attach a full set of false eyelash extensions.
Alternatively, false eyelashes may be applied directly to an individual's eyelid. False eyelashes come in strips (and thus may also be referred to as “strip lashes”) that can be trimmed to fit the width of the individual's eyelid. While a strip of false eyelashes can be applied in a single motion, false eyelashes may be easily distinguishable from the individual's natural eyelashes and may be uncomfortable when worn for extended periods of time.

Embodiments described herein are related to methods and systems of artificial lash extensions configured for an arrangement at natural eyelashes to create an appearance of eyeliner.
As noted above, false eyelashes, including artificial lash extensions, have been used to enhance the length, thickness, and fullness of natural eyelashes.
Eyeliner can refer to a material, often a cosmetic, that is applied around at least part of the contour of the eye to create various aesthetic effects. For example, eyeliners often come as a liquid that is brushed onto parts of the eye area, or as a pencil that is drawn onto parts of the eye area. Eyeliner can be applied around the eyes to make the eyes appear larger, more noticeable, or enhance or alter the shape of the eyes. Eyeliner can be applied in various styles, including a winged style, a cat-eye style, among other styles. In some instances, eyeliner can create the appearance of thicker eyelashes at the lash line.
Artificial lash extensions and eyeliners have conventionally been distinct items (e.g., distinct cosmetic tools) that are applied in distinct operations. For example, a set of artificial lash extensions for enhancing natural eyelashes can be created as a distinct product that is applied during an artificial lash extension application. An eyeliner for coloring the skin around the eye area can also be created as a distinct product that is applied during an eyeliner application. A user may apply artificial lash extensions and choose to separately apply or not apply eyeliner. Similarly, a user may choose to apply eyeliner and choose to separately apply or not apply artificial lash extensions.
Aspects of the disclosure address the above deficiencies by providing an artificial lash extension system that includes first artificial lash extensions designed for arrangement at the natural eyelashes of a first eye, such as the underside of the natural lashes of the first eye. The arrangement creates an enhancement to the natural eyelashes (e.g., fuller lashes) and creates the appearance of eyeliner at the first eye.
Similarly and in some embodiments, the artificial lash extension system includes second artificial lash extensions designed for arrangement at the natural eyelashes of the second eye opposite the first eye, such as the underside of the natural lashes of the second eye. The arrangement creates an enhancement to the natural eyelashes and creates an appearance of eyeliner at the second eye.
In some embodiments, the first arrangement of the first artificial lash extensions can create a particular eyeliner pattern or eyeliner style (e.g., a tapered eyeliner extending from the outer corner of the first eye towards the inner corner of the first eye). In some embodiments, the same or different artificial lash extensions in a different arrangement can create a different eyeliner pattern or eyeliner style (e.g., a line of consistent width (e.g., ±0.5 mm) along the longitudinal axis).
In some embodiments, in the first arrangement the first artificial lash extensions can be arranged in a specified order (e.g., sequence) to create a particular eyeliner pattern or style.
For example and in some embodiments, one or more artificial lash extensions among the first artificial lash extensions can be different from other artificial lash extensions among the first artificial lash extensions. Each artificial lash extension among the first artificial lash extensions can have at least a subset of artificial hairs that are slanted in the direction of a lateral end of the artificial lash extension. In the first arrangement, the slanted artificial hairs are slanted toward the outer corner of the first eye. Each of the artificial lash extensions of the first artificial lash extensions have slanted artificial hairs having a length that is different from the slanted artificial hairs of other artificial lash extensions of the first artificial lash extensions, such that in the first specified order the slanted artificial hairs of the first artificial lash extensions taper in a particular direction. When arranged at the underside of the natural eyelashes in the specified order, the first artificial lash extensions can create an appearance of a tapered eyeliner adjacent to the lash line that extends from the outer corner of the first eye and towards the inner corner of the first eye.
In some embodiments, the artificial lash extensions of the first artificial lash extensions can be the same or similar and be arranged to create a different eyeliner pattern or eyeliner style.
For example, each artificial lash extension among the first artificial lash extensions can have at least a subset of artificial hairs that are slanted in the direction of a lateral end of the artificial lash extension. In the first arrangement, the slanted artificial hairs are slanted towards the outer corner of the first eye. The lengths of the slanted artificial hairs among the first artificial lash extensions can be substantially the same (e.g., ±2 mm). When arranged at the underside of the natural eyelashes, the first set of artificial lash extensions can create an appearance of an eyeliner with a substantially consistent width extending at least between the inner corner and outer corner of the eye (e.g., an eyeliner line of consistent width (e.g., ±0.5 mm) along the longitudinal axis).
In some embodiments, the first artificial lash extensions for the first eye can be different from the second artificial lash extensions for the second eye. For example, the slanted artificial hairs of the first artificial lash extensions can be slanted in the opposite direction as the slanted artificial hairs of the second artificial lash extensions. In the first arrangement the slanted artificial hairs of the first artificial lash extensions can slant in the direction of the outer corner of this first eye (e.g., right eye) and in the second arrangement the slanted artificial hairs of the second artificial lash extensions can slant in the direction of the outer corner of the second eye (e.g., left eye).
In some embodiments, in the second arrangement the second artificial lash extensions can be arranged in a second specified order (e.g., sequence) to create the particular eyeliner pattern or style. In some embodiments, the first specified order and the second specified order can be a different order. For instance, the first specified order can be reverse the second specified order. In the first arrangement in the first specified order, the artificial hairs of the first artificial lash extensions are configured to taper from the outer corner to the inner corner of the first eye. In the second arrangement in the second specified order, the second artificial lash extensions are configured to taper from the outer corner to the inner corner of the second eye.
The eye area 100 includes an upper lash line 104 (also referred to as “lash line 104” herein) and upper waterline 106 (also referred to as “waterline 106” herein). In some embodiments, a lash line, such as the upper lash line 104 or lower lash line of natural lashes 102B, can include the area between the natural lashes. The lash line can be curved and follow the alignment of the natural lashes 102. In some embodiments, the upper lash line 104 can include some area of the skin that is above (e.g., directly above) the natural lashes 102A and/or below (e.g., directly below) the natural lashes 102A. Similarly, the lower lash line can include some area of the skin that is below (e.g., directly below) the natural lashes 102B and/or above (e.g., directly above) the natural lashes 102B.
In some embodiments, the waterline (also referred to as “wetline”), such as upper waterline 106 corresponding to natural lashes 102A and lower waterline 112 corresponding to natural lashes 102B, can include an area (or line) of skin that is exposed between the natural lashes 102 and the eye.
Spatially relative terms, such as “under,” “upper” “lower,” “top,” “bottom,” and so forth as used herein refer to a relative position of one element with respect to another element. Unless otherwise specified, the spatially relative terms are not intended to be limiting to the absolute orientation, and are intended to encompass different orientations (e.g., rotated 90 degrees, inverted, flipped) of elements in addition to the orientation depicted in the Figures. For example, if elements in the Figures are inverted, elements described as “upper” elements can then be considered oriented as “lower” elements, without deviating from aspects of the disclosure.
In some embodiments, one or more of artificial lash extension 200 or artificial lash extension 300 (both also referred to as “lash extension,” “artificial eyelash extension,” “lash segment” or “artificial lash segment” herein) are designed or configured for application at the underside of natural lashes, such as at the underside of the natural lashes of a user or even the top side of the natural lashes of a user. In some embodiments, one or more of artificial lash extension 200 or artificial lash extension 300 can be part of a set of multiple artificial lash extensions. In some embodiments, one or more of artificial lash extension 200 or artificial lash extension 200 can be a segment of a “full” artificial lash extension such that when multiple artificial lash extensions are arranged adjacent to one another at the underside of natural lashes (e.g., natural lashes 102A) the arranged artificial lash extensions span the length of the natural lashes to form a full artificial lash extension. In some embodiments, the artificial lash extensions (e.g., segments) can be shorter than the horizontal length of the natural lashes (e.g., length of the lash line). For instance, 3-5 artificial lash extensions can be arranged adjacent to one another at the underside of the natural lashes so that the set of arranged artificial lash extensions span the length of the natural lashes. In other embodiments, an artificial lash extension can be longer such that the artificial lash extension is a “full” artificial lash extension that substantially spans the horizontal length of the natural lashes. The artificial lash extension can be arranged to substantially align with the lash line of the user. In some embodiments, using artificial lash extensions that are independent segments can allow an individual artificial lash extension to move independently when bonded to the underside of a natural lash, which mimics the movement of the natural lash and can improve the feel, comfort, and longevity of the artificial lash extensions.
Artificial lash extension 200 and artificial lash extension 300 respectively depict artificial hairs 202A-202N (collectively referred to as “artificial hairs 202” herein) and 302A-302N (collectively referred to as “artificial hairs 303” herein). In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of an artificial lash extension, such as artificial lash extension 200 or artificial lash extension 300, can be formed from one or more synthetic materials, including but not limited to poly butylene terephthalate (PBT), acrylic resin, polyester (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate (PET)), other polymers, other synthetic material, or a combination thereof. In alternative embodiments, a natural material such as natural hair (e.g., human hair or mink hair) can be used. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of a particular artificial lash extension can have one or more lengths and/or one or more diameters. In some embodiments, the diameter of an artificial hair can be between approximately 0.0075 millimeters (mm) (e.g., 0.0075 mm+/−0.0025 mm) to 0.3 mm (e.g., 0.3 mm+/−0.05 mm). In some embodiments, the ends of one or more of the artificial hairs can be tapered. In some embodiments, the one or more of artificial hairs can be curled or shaped in a particular direction. For example, the ends 208 of artificial hairs 202 or the ends 308 of artificial hairs 302 can be tapered or curled or both. In another example, the ends 208 of artificial hairs 202 can be curled upwards in the direction of the top side of the artificial lash extension 200. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs can range from 3 mm to 30 mm in length, or in some instances even longer.
In some embodiments, artificial lash extension 200 and artificial lash extension 300 can include multiple sides, such a front side, a rear side, a top side, a bottom side, a first end, and a second end opposite the first end. The sides are described relative to an orientation of an artificial lash extension when attached to a user's natural eyelashes, for the sake of illustration, rather than limitation. The front side can refer to a side that is a forward part of the artificial lash extension. For example, the front side of artificial lash extension 200 faces opposite the user when attached to a user's natural lashes. The back side can refer to a side that is opposite the front side and faces the user's face when attached to a user's natural lashes. The top side can refer to an uppermost part and faces towards the top of the user's head when attached to a user's natural lashes. The bottom side is opposite the top side and faces towards the user's feet when attached to a user's natural lashes. The first end and the second end can refer to lateral parts or lateral sides of an artificial lash extension. For example, the first end can be a left side and the second end can be a right side (or vice versa) when the artificial lash extension is attached to the user's natural lashes. Although multiple sides are described with respect to artificial lash extension 200 and artificial lash extension 300, false eyelashes can be described having similar sides. Additionally, the sides as described with respect to an artificial lash extension 200 can also be used to describe sides of a base of an artificial lash extension, as further described below.
In some embodiments, an artificial lash extension can include a base. For example, artificial lash extension 200 includes base 206. In some embodiments, artificial lash extension 300 may or may not (as illustrated) include a base similar to base 206 of artificial lash extension 200. The base can include a top side (e.g., facing out of the page and towards the reader), a bottom side, a back side, a front side, and two ends (e.g., two lateral sides). In some embodiments, one or more of the multiple artificial hairs of artificial lash extension protrude out the front side of the base. When arranged at the underside of a natural lash, the backside of the artificial lash extension can point towards the user's eye. The thickness (e.g., between the top side and bottom side of the base can be between approximately 0.05 millimeters (mm) and approximately 0.15 mm (e.g., 0.05 mm+/−0.01 mm). In some embodiments, the thickness of the base can be less than 0.05 mm. In some embodiments, the low profile of the base is designed to allow the artificial lash extension to be light weight to better adhere to the underside of the natural lash and prevent obstruction of a user's view. The low profile of the base can at least in part be attributed to an attachment operation that forms the base and/or attaches clusters of artificial hairs to the base. For example, the attachment operation can include an application of heat that, at least in part, creates a base with a low profile.
In some embodiments, one or more of the top side or bottom side (e.g., surface) of the base is substantially flat (e.g., having a flatness control tolerance value of +/−0.03 mm or +/−0.015 mm). In some embodiments, the flatness of the base of the artificial lash extension 200 is designed to allow improved contact and adhesion to a surface, such as the underside of a natural eyelash or the opposing surface of another artificial lash extension. The flatness of the base can at least in part be attributed to the attachment operation.
In some embodiments and as noted above, a performance of an attachment operation can form the base and/or attach one or more clusters of artificial hairs to the base. In some embodiments, the attachment operation can include one or more operations (e.g., sub-operations). The operations of the attachment operation as described herein can be used singularly or be combined in any order or manner.
In some embodiments, the attachment operation can include at least an application of heat (e.g., heat operation). In some embodiments, the base can be formed, at least in part, by an application of heat at or near the area of the base. The application of heat can cause one or more of the artificial hairs (e.g., all of the artificial hairs or clusters) of an artificial lash extension to be connected to or at the base. In some embodiments, a heated fixture, such a heated platen, a heated crimp, heating lamp, heated oven or other device can be used (e.g., pressed against the artificial hairs) to cause the artificial hairs (e.g., artificial hairs of one or more clusters) to at least become soft, tacky or sticky (e.g., at least partially melt). In some embodiments, the at least partially melted artificial hairs (e.g., of one or more clusters) form at least part of the base. In some embodiments, the application of heat at least partially melts or softens the artificial hairs such that the multiple artificial hairs connect to or at the base of the artificial lash extension. In some embodiments, the application of heat at least partially melts or softens the artificial hairs such that at least some of the multiple artificial hairs connect to each other at the base of the artificial lash extension. In some embodiments, to at least partially melt the artificial hairs (e.g., and/or artificial hairs of a cluster) at the base the artificial hairs can be heated to a temperature between 55-100 degrees Celsius, which can cause the artificial hairs to be connected to or at the base and/or in some cases to each other. In some embodiments, the application of heat is at a temperature above, within or at the glass transition temperature of the material of the artificial hairs. At the glass transition temperature, the material of the artificial hairs transitions from brittle to a softer, rubbery, tacky or pliable state. In some embodiments, the application of heat is at a temperature above, within or at the melt temperature of the material of the artificial hairs. For example, the base area (and/or other parts of the artificial lash extension) can be heated above 200 degrees Celsius. In some embodiments, one or more applications of heat can be performed to form the base.
In some embodiments, that attachment operation can include some additional artificial material that at least in part forms the base and/or attaches one or more clusters of artificial hairs to the base. In some embodiments, one or more additional artificial materials, such as one or more artificial hairs or other material can be placed substantially orthogonal to the artificial hairs (e.g., generally aligned horizontal with respect to the lengthwise direction of the artificial hairs). In some embodiments, the additional artificial material can be connected to the artificial hairs. In some embodiments, the additional artificial material can be considered a base or at least an initial base. In some embodiments, the additional artificial material can be considered at least part of the base that is to be formed. In some embodiments, heat can be applied to the area of where the base is to be formed (which includes the additional artificial material). In some embodiments, one or more of the artificial hairs and/or the additional artificial material can at least partially melt, at least in part, to form the base. In some embodiments, the additional artificial material can include the same or similar material as used to form the artificial hairs, such as PBT or polyester. In some embodiments, the additional artificial material can include an adhesive (e.g., application of adhesive) that is used alone or with one or more other artificial material(s) (e.g., horizontal artificial hair, nylon, etc.). In some embodiments, the application of heat can be used to help cure the applied adhesive. In some embodiments that use an adhesive, the application of heat may or may not partially melt the artificial hairs. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of one or more clusters are unknotted with the additional material or any other material to form an unknotted base.
In some embodiments, the attachment operation can include the application of pressure. In some embodiments, the base can at least in part be formed by an application of pressure. In some embodiments, the base can be formed by an application of pressure combined with an application of heat. For example, an application of pressure along with an application heat can be concurrently applied at the base of the artificial lash extension to cause at least some of the artificial hairs (e.g., some of the artificial hairs of a cluster) to at least partially melt and connect together (e.g., secured together) and/or connect to (e.g., secured to) an additional artificial material. The application of pressure can also help form the low profile of the base and help create a base with a desired flatness.
In some embodiments, the attachment operation can include attachment of artificial hairs, such as the artificial hairs of one or more clusters, to a support or base thread or fiber. For instance, the artificial hairs may be tied (e.g., knotted) to a support or base thread or fiber. In some embodiments, prior to the application of heat the artificial hairs may be tied (e.g., knotted) to a support or base thread or fiber to align the artificial hairs and prevent the horizontal spreading of the artificial hairs. Heat can be applied as described above (while the artificial hairs are knotted to a support thread) such that the support thread forms part of the base. In other embodiments, heat can be applied below the horizontal support thread. For instance, the support thread can hold the artificial hairs in place and the application heat can form a base below the support thread. In other embodiments, the artificial hairs are not aligned with a support thread (e.g., are not knotted on a support thread) before or during the formation of the base using the application of heat.
In some embodiments, the attachment operation can include a stencil or other arrangement device to align the artificial hairs in the desired arrangement. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs can be arranged using a stencil or other arrangement device before and/or during the formation of the base using the application of heat.
In some embodiments, the attachment operation can include one or more chemical processes that can form the base and/or attach one or more clusters of artificial hairs to the base. In some embodiments, the base can be formed in part or in full using one or more chemical processes.
In some embodiments, one or more of artificial lash extension 200 and artificial lash extension 300 include artificial hairs 202 and 302 that are respectively configured into clusters of artificial hairs 204A-204G (collectively referred to as “clusters 204” or “clusters of artificial hairs 204” herein) and clusters of artificial hairs 304A-304G (collectively referred to as “clusters 304” or “clusters of artificial hairs 304” herein). In some embodiments, a cluster of artificial hairs can refer to two or more artificial hairs that are grouped together. In some embodiments, one or more artificial hairs of a cluster of artificial hairs contact one another at or near the base. In some embodiments, two or more artificial hairs of a cluster can contact one another before and/or after an attachment operation, such as an application of heat. In some embodiments, 2-30) artificial hairs can be included in a cluster.
In some embodiments, the clusters of artificial hairs can be connected to or at the base with an application of heat in a similar manner as described above. In some embodiments, the application of heat can at least partially melt at least some of the artificial hairs of one or more clusters of the artificial lash extension. In some embodiments, the application of heat can at least partially melt at least some of the artificial hairs of at least one cluster so that at least some of the artificial hairs of the cluster connect to one another. In some embodiments, the application of heat can at least partially melt at least some of the artificial hairs of at least one cluster so that at least some of the artificial hairs of the cluster connect to the base of the artificial lash extension (and/or form, at least in part, the base of the artificial lash extension). In some embodiments, at least some of the artificial hairs of at least one clusters are connected to one another at a respective part of the base by at least the application of heat.
In some embodiments, the clusters are connected to one another at the base by the application of heat. In some embodiments, one or more of the clusters of the artificial lash extension are directly connected to at least one adjacent cluster at the base. In some embodiments, one or more of the clusters of the artificial lash extension are indirectly connected to at least one adjacent cluster of the artificial lash extension at the base.
In some embodiments, at least two artificial hairs of an artificial lash extension crisscross each other. For example, two artificial hairs of a particular cluster can crisscross one another. In some embodiments, one or more individual clusters of artificial hairs can be formed using an application of heat as described above. Thus, the clusters can have a base (e.g., cluster base). The clusters can be arranged, and heat can be applied, as described above, to the cluster bases to form at least in part the base (e.g., base 206) of the artificial lash extension. In some embodiments, artificial lash extensions 200 or 300 may be 4-10 mm wide. In some embodiments, artificial lash extension 200 or 300 may be 5-6 mm wide. In some embodiments, the width of an artificial lash extension is much wider than a single cluster that is typically 1-2 mm wide.
Artificial lash extension 300 further illustrates adjacent artificial hairs (or adjacent clusters 304) that are coupled or secured to one another at connecting portions 310A-310H (collectively referred to as “connecting portions 310” herein) of the crisscrossing artificial hairs 302. For example, at least one hair of a particular cluster can be secured (e.g., directly or indirectly) to one or more hairs of an adjacent cluster at a connecting portion. In some embodiments, connecting portions 310 can connect artificial hairs (e.g., clusters) of an artificial lash extension together at areas between the two ends of the artificial hairs such that the artificial hairs of the artificial lash extension are connected directly or indirectly to one another to form an artificial lash extension and both ends of the artificial hairs not connected together (e.g., open ended).
In some embodiments, the connecting portions 310 (also referred to “base 310” herein) can be considered a base, as described herein. In some embodiments, the connecting portions 310 can be formed by an attachment operation, as described herein. In some embodiments, the connecting portions 310 can be formed by an attachment operation that includes an application of heat in a similar manner as described herein. In some embodiments, the connecting portions 310 can be formed by an attachment operation that includes an application of pressure in a similar manner as described herein. In some embodiments, the connecting portions 310 can be formed using one or more of an application of heat, an application of adhesive, an application of pressure, or a chemical process as described herein. For example, the crisscrossing artificial hairs 302 are connected or secured together approximately 1 mm to approximately 5 mm (+/−0.5 mm) above the ends 306 of the artificial hairs 302 (e.g., the ends 306 that are opposite the ends 308) using an attachment operation.
In some embodiments, the clusters can be secured to one another above ends 306 using an attachment operation that includes an artificial material to form connecting portions 310. In some embodiments, additional artificial material such as one or more artificial hairs or other material(s) can be placed or connected horizontally with respect to the lengthwise direction of the artificial hairs (e.g., across the area designated by the connecting portions 310). The artificial hairs or clusters of artificial hairs can be connected to the additional artificial material using an attachment operation that includes one or more of an application of heat, an application of adhesive, an application of pressure, a chemical process, or a thread as described herein. In some embodiments, the application of the additional artificial material that is used to connect the artificial hairs of artificial lash extension 300 can be similar to the application of additional artificial material used to form a base as described herein.
In some embodiments, the base (similar to base 206 of artificial lash extension 200) can be formed and subsequently removed after the formation of the connecting portions 310, such that the artificial lash extension 300 does not include the base similar to base 206. In some embodiments, the secured connecting portions 310 can hold artificial hairs 302 of the artificial lash extension 300 together in the absence of a base similar to base 206. In some embodiments, the connecting portions 310 of the crisscrossing artificial hairs 302 can be formed without forming a base that similar to base 206 of artificial lash extension 200.
It should be appreciated that artificial lash extension 200 and 300 are provided for purposes of illustration, rather than limitation.
In some embodiments, each artificial lash extension in a set of lash extensions can include multiple clusters of artificial hairs and a base (e.g., such as base 206 or a base including connecting portions 310). In some embodiments, the base of the artificial lash extension can include a surface, such as surface 210 of base 206 or surfaces 312A through 312H of connecting portions 310 that is untextured or textured. In some embodiments, the texture, can promote adhesion to a surface, such as an underside of natural eyelashes, using an adhesive.
As noted above, artificial lash extension 400, artificial lash extension 420, and artificial lash extension 440 are depicted in a topside view. Artificial lash extension 400, artificial lash extension 420, and artificial lash extension 440 include a rear side 410, end 412A (also referred to as “lateral side 412A” or “lateral end 412A”), end 412B (also referred to as “lateral side 412B” or “lateral end 412B” herein), front side 414, topside 416 and bottom side 418. Base 406 of artificial lash extension 400, base 426 of artificial lash extension 420, and base 446 of artificial lash extension 440) can be described with similar sides (e.g., rear side of base 406) as used describe artificial lash extension 400, 420 and 440. The topsides 416 of artificial lash extension 400, artificial lash extension 420, and artificial lash extension 440) are designed to attach to the underside of natural eyelashes, such as the underside of upper natural eyelashes.
In some embodiments, artificial lash extension 400, artificial lash extension 420, and artificial lash extension 440 are designed for application at a particular eye (e.g., right eye), and a mirror image of artificial lash extension 400, artificial lash extension 420, and artificial lash extension 440 are designed for the opposite eye (e.g., left eye).
Returning to artificial lash extension 400 of
In some embodiments, a subset of the artificial hairs 402 are slanted in a first direction. For example, clusters of artificial hairs 404A through 404J (also referred to as “clusters 404” or “subset 404 of clusters” herein) are slanted in the direction of end 412A. When applied to the natural eyelashes of the user, the artificial hairs of clusters 404 can slant in the direction of the outer corner of the user's eye. For instance, the artificial hairs of clusters 404 can slant towards the outer corner of the user's right eye.
Artificial lash extension 200 illustrates the artificial hairs of clusters 404 slanted in the direction of end 412A. Slanting can refer to a slope or lean in a particular direction. In can be noted that the slanting of artificial hairs can be achieved in numerous ways. For example and in some embodiments, artificial hairs can be slanted by protruding from the base at an angle less than 90 degrees. In some embodiments, artificial hairs can be slanted by protruding from the base at an angle approximately equal to (e.g., ±10 degrees) or greater than 90 degrees and curling or bending the artificial hairs in the direction of the slant. In some embodiments, a combination of the above can be used to achieve a slanting. For instance, slanting artificial hairs can be formed by positioning the artificial hairs at the base at an angle less than 90 degrees and curling or bending the artificial hairs in the direction of the slant. In some embodiments, the slanted artificial hairs (and tapered artificial hairs) can function to create the appearance of eyeliner.
As noted above and in some embodiments, a mirror image of artificial lash extension 400 can be used for the opposite eye (e.g., left eye). The mirror image of artificial lash extension 400 can have a subset of artificial hairs that are slanted in a second direction opposite the first direction. For example, the mirror image of clusters of artificial hairs 404A through 404J are slanted in the direction of end 412B. For instance, the artificial hairs of clusters 404 can slant towards the outer corner of the user's left eye.
In some embodiments, the layout of the artificial hairs 402 of the artificial lash extension 400 is asymmetric about center axis 430 bisecting base 406 (e.g., axis 430 bisecting the base 406 along the longitudinal axis of base 406).
In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of cluster 404 are substantially the same length (e.g., ±2 mm)
In some embodiments, a different subset of the artificial hairs 402 also protrude from the base 406. For example, clusters of artificial hairs 408A through 408J (also referred to as “clusters 408” or “subset 408 of clusters” herein) protrude from base 406. In some embodiments, clusters 408 are not slanted in the direction of end 412A. In some embodiments, subset 408 of clusters may be optional. In other embodiments, subset of clusters 408 are not optional. In some embodiments, subset 408 of clusters are substantially perpendicular (±15 degrees) to the base 406. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of clusters 408 are substantially the same length (±2 mm).
In some embodiments, some artificial hairs of clusters 408 can extend past the outermost cluster 404J having slanted hairs. By extending past the outermost cluster 404J, the artificial hairs of cluster 408 can help blend the artificial lash extension 400 with an adjacent cluster when arranged at the underside of the natural eyelashes.
In some embodiments, the clusters 404 of artificial hairs can be above (towards the top side of artificial lash extension 400) and the clusters 408 of artificial hairs (toward the bottom side 418 of artificial lash extension 400). In other embodiments, the layout of clusters 404 and 408 can be reversed such that clusters 404 are beneath clusters 408.
In some embodiments, at least some of the artificial hairs of clusters 408 cross the artificial hairs of clusters 404 at intersecting portions of the artificial hairs 402, examples of which include intersecting portions 419A through 419N. In some embodiments, the crossing of artificial hairs of different clusters can help the artificial lash extension adhere to the underside of the natural eyelashes (e.g., increase the surface area for bonding).
In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of clusters 404 can have a larger diameter than artificial hairs of clusters 408. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of clusters 404 can be the same diameter as the artificial hairs of clusters 408. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of cluster 404 are longer than the artificial hairs of clusters 408.

In some embodiments, artificial lash extension 420 includes a base 406 and multiple artificial hairs 422A through 422N (generally referred to as “artificial hairs 422” herein) coupled to the base 406. The artificial hairs 422 protrude from the base 406 in the direction of the front side 414 of artificial lash extension 420.
In some embodiments, a subset of the artificial hairs 422 are slanted in a first direction. For example, clusters of artificial hairs 424A through 424J (also referred to as “clusters 424” or “subset 424 of clusters” herein) are slanted in the direction of end 412A. Clusters 424 of artificial lash extension 420 can be the same or similar to clusters 404 of artificial lash extension 400.
In some embodiments, a different subset of the artificial hairs 422 also protrude from the base 406. For example, clusters of artificial hairs 428A through 428J (also referred to as “clusters 428” or “subset 428 of clusters” herein) protrude from base 406. In some embodiments, clusters 428 are not slanted in the direction of end 412A. In some embodiments, subset 428 of clusters are tapered in the direction of end 412B. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs of each of clusters 428 are a different length from the artificial hairs of an adjacent cluster.
Returning to artificial lash extension 440 of
In some embodiments, artificial lash extension 440 includes a base 406 and multiple artificial hairs 442A through 442N (generally referred to as “artificial hairs 442” herein) coupled to the base 406. The artificial hairs 442 protrude from the base 406 in the direction of the front side 414 of artificial lash extension 440). In some embodiments, artificial hairs 442 are grouped into clusters 444A through 444J (generally referred to as clusters 444).
In some embodiment, artificial lash extension 440) does not include a subset of clusters of artificial hairs that cross another subset of clusters of artificial hairs. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs 442 are slanted in a first direction. For example, clusters 444 of artificial hairs are slanted in the direction of end 412A. In some embodiments, the artificial hairs 442 initially protrude (e.g., stating at the root of the hair adjacent to the base 406 extending to some point, such as at least 0.5 to 1 mm from the root) from the base 406 in a substantially perpendicular (±15 degrees) direction and curl or bend towards end 412A as the artificial hairs 442 extend towards the tips.

It should be noted that the sets of artificial lash extensions illustrated in
At block 810, first lash extensions of a set of lash extensions are obtained. In some embodiments, each of the first lash extensions include first artificial hairs. In some embodiments, at least a first subset of the first artificial hairs are slanted in a first direction. In some embodiments, the set of artificial lash extensions can include artificial lash extensions for natural eyelashes of one or more eyes.
At block 820, an adhesive may be applied. In some embodiments, the adhesive is applied to the natural eyelashes, such as to the underside of the first natural eyelashes of a first eye of the user. For example, adhesive can be applied to the underside of the upper natural lashes of the right eye of the user. In some embodiments, an adhesive may be applied to one or more of the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions. In some embodiments, an adhesive, such as an adhesive strip, may be pre-applied to the first artificial lash extensions.
In some embodiments, the adhesive may be one or more of a glue, a mascara, a bonding agent, an epoxy, a paste, or any other natural or synthetic substance having an adhesive quality. In some embodiments, the adhesive may be a waterproof formulation that allows artificial lash extensions to remain affixed to the individual's natural lashes for periods of time (e.g., hours, days, weeks, or months). In some embodiments, the adhesive may be a commercially available adhesive for conventional lash extensions or a specialized composition for use with the lash extensions described herein. The adhesive may be clear or colored (e.g., milky white or black to emulate mascara).
In some embodiments, the adhesive may be applied using a brush, a comb, or any other type of application tool. In some embodiments, the adhesive may be applied one to two millimeters above the waterline. In other embodiments, the adhesive may be applied at any location along the natural lashes or along the waterline. In some embodiments, it may be desirable to wait a predetermined period of time prior to proceeding to block 830 to allow for the adhesive to activate its adhesive quality.
At block 830, the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions are arranged in a first arrangement at the first eye. In some embodiments, each of the first artificial lash extensions of set of artificial lash extensions (e.g., lash extensions) may be arranged at the underside of the first natural eyelashes of the first eye. In some embodiments, in the first arrangement the first subset of artificial hairs of the first artificial lash extensions slant toward an outer corner of the first eye. In some embodiments, in the first arrangement the first artificial lash extensions create an appearance of eyeliner at the first eye. In some embodiments, a subset can include some of a group of items. In some embodiments, a subset can include at least some of a group of items (e.g., 1 to all the items).
In some embodiments, arranging the first artificial lash extensions in the first arrangement includes arranging the first artificial lash extensions adjacent to one another in a specified order. In some embodiments, arrangement in the specified order begins with an initial lash extension of the first artificial lash extensions arranged at (e.g., proximate) one of the outer corner or inner corner of the first eye and ending with a last lash of the first artificial lash extensions arranged at the other one of the outer corner or the inner corner of the first eye. In some embodiments, the first artificial lash extensions can be arranged in the specified order such that each successive artificial lash extensions of the first artificial lash extensions is arranged adjacent (e.g., directly adjacent) to the preceding one of the arranged artificial lash extensions.
In some embodiments, in the specified order, the first subset of artificial hairs of the first artificial lash extensions taper from the outer corner of the first eye to the inner corner of the first eye.
In some embodiments, the top side of each base of the first artificial lash extensions can be arranged and applied directly to the underside of the natural eyelashes (rather than to the eyelid) of the first eye.
In some embodiments, arranging each of the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions can be an iterative process. For example, a user can arrange an initial artificial lash extension of the first artificial lash extensions at the natural eyelashes. After arrangement of the initial artificial lash extension, the user can arrange a second artificial lash extension of the first artificial lash extensions at the natural eyelashes. For instance, the second artificial lash extension can be arranged directly adjacent to the initial artificial lash extension at the underside of the natural eyelashes. The acts can continue for the number of first artificial lash extensions in the set of artificial lash extensions.
In some embodiments, the artificial lash extensions, such as the first artificial lash extension and/or the second artificial lash extensions may be arranged to align with the curvature of the lash line. For example, multiple artificial lash extensions may be arranged adjacent to one another (e.g., not overlapping or overlapping) such that the bases align with the curvature of the lash line. For instance, the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions may become substantially flush with the lash line when the first artificial lash extensions are arranged proximate to the lash line. In some embodiments, an applicator can be used to arrange the artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions.
In some embodiments, each of the first artificial lash extensions and/second artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions may include three to eight distinct artificial lash extensions. The number of artificial lash extensions of the first lash extensions and/or second artificial lash extensions of the set may be based on the width of the artificial lash extension, the thickness of the artificial hair used, the desired style, the desired lash density (also referred to as “fullness” of the user's lashes), etc.
At block 840), each of the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions may be affixed (e.g., attached or bonded) at the first eye. In some embodiments, the first artificial lash extensions may be affixed to the underside of the first natural eyelashes of the first eye in the first arrangement. In some embodiments, subsequent to arranging the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions in a desired arrangement, the first artificial lash extensions can be affixed so that the artificial lash extensions are secured to and more permanently attached (e.g., for days) to the natural eyelashes. In some embodiments, one or more of an application of pressure or passage of time to cure the adhesive can be used to help affix the first artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions.
In some embodiments, an applicator may be used to affix (e.g., apply pressure) the first artificial lash extensions to the natural eyelashes. The applicator may be any tool having opposed arms that are connected to one another at an end. The opposed arms may be gripped and used to apply a pressing force. In some embodiments, the applicator may have a curved, concave or crescent shape that is contoured to be substantially flush with the curved shape of the lash line. The applicator may be composed of any material (e.g., stainless steel, hardened steel, or titanium) to increase the durability and grasping precision of the opposed arms.
At block 850, the second lash extensions of the set of lash extensions are obtained. In some embodiments, each of the second lash extensions include second artificial hairs. In some embodiments, at least a second subset of the second artificial hairs are slanted in a second direction opposite the first direction.
At block 860, an adhesive may be applied. In some embodiments, the adhesive is applied to the natural eyelashes, such as to the underside of the second natural eyelashes of a second eye of the user. For example, adhesive can be applied to the underside of the upper natural lashes of the left eye of the user. In some embodiments, an adhesive may be applied to one or more of the second artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions.
At block 870, the second artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions are arranged in a second arrangement at the second eye. In some embodiments, each of the second artificial lash extensions of set of lash extensions may be arranged at the underside of the second natural eyelashes of the second eye. In some embodiments, in the second arrangement the second subset of artificial hairs of the second lash extensions slant toward an outer corner of the second eye. In some embodiments, in the second arrangement the second artificial lash extensions create an appearance of eyeliner at the second eye.
In some embodiments, arranging the second artificial lash extensions in the second arrangement includes arranging the second artificial lash extensions adjacent to one another in a specified order. In some embodiments, arrangement in the specified order begins with an initial lash extension of the second artificial lash extensions arranged at (e.g., proximate) one of the outer corner or inner corner of the second eye and ending with a last artificial lash extension of the second artificial lash extensions arranged at the other one of the outer corner or the inner corner of the second eye. In some embodiments, the second artificial lash extensions can be arranged in the specified order such that each successive artificial lash extensions of the second artificial lash extensions is arranged adjacent to the preceding one of the arranged artificial lash extensions.
In some embodiments, in the specified order, the second subset of artificial hairs of second artificial lash extensions taper from the outer corner of the second eye to the inner corner of the second eye.
In some embodiments, the top side of each base of the first artificial lash extensions can be arranged and applied directly to the underside of the natural eyelashes (rather than to the eyelid) of the second eye.
At block 880, each of the second artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions may be affixed (e.g., attached or bonded) at the second eye. In some embodiments, the second artificial lash extensions may be affixed to the underside of the second natural eyelashes of the second eye in the second arrangement. In some embodiments, subsequent to arranging the second artificial lash extensions of the set of artificial lash extensions in a desired arrangement, the second artificial lash extensions can be affixed so that the artificial lash extensions are secured to and more permanently attached (e.g., for days) to the natural eyelashes. In some embodiments, an applicator may be used to affix (e.g., apply pressure) the second artificial lash extensions to the natural eyelashes.
