BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Because my invention is new and I, Todd Ervin, am the sole inventor of it, the background of how it came about is as follows:
I went to Arizona to look for a construction job in January, 2008. I did get a construction job and started working. In my off time I hiked a lot up mountains and in the desert. I felt I needed something more practical than my 30/30 SS marlin lever action rifle, which was difficult to carry. I needed to protect myself in case I ran into rattle snakes or wild animals. I went to a gun shop on a weekend in Sierra Vista and traded my 30/30 SS marlin lever action rifle for a black powder 44 caliber revolver and holster, even up. Everyone back home thought I was crazy for doing that. I went to use my black powder 44 caliber revolver for the first time with 44 caliber black powder pellets and balls with my fingers and thought this is taking way too long. I was fumbling with the black powder pellets and balls and thought I've got to find an easier way to load them. Then I thought I'll get a PVC tube ⅝″ and sand down the outside diameter and then put balls and pellets, six of each in tube. It then made it easier because I didn't have to handle the pellets and balls with my fingers to load the gun cylinder. By loading with my fingers I had to keep handling them and I was dropping the pellets and balls easily. The PVC tube worked OK but it still was bigger than the cylinder chamber holes on revolver. It got me to thinking more night and day that I am a problem solver and I can solve any problem. A couple of days later I went into the restroom and noticed there wasn't any toilet paper on the holder. I pulled it off and started pushing it in and out and back and forth. I thought that's it, that is how I can make it work. I started thinking about how to make it and the idea was born. It came to me about how to make it. I then made drawings and took them to my first machinist and he started to make it. Then through another machinist my prototype was completed.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION—INTENTION OR NATURE
Its intention is to load your black powder revolver in a fast manner with five or six powder pellets and balls in an accurate and quick delivery to the cylinder chamber. With revolver in left hand pointed up away from face, EZ loader in right hand, loaded with six ball and six powder pellets with cylinder in position on revolver and taking EZ loader with right hand pointing the fingers end of the EZ loader down, locating ½ inch straight up from cylinder hole, pulling back thumb bracket, which then in turn pulls back the four fingers, opening expanding opening of fingers as soon as penetrating tube makes contact with fingers, releasing one powder pellet and ball into cylinder chamber with thumb bracket still pulled back with thumb and with next powder pellet a quarter way through fingers tip end. Resting on ball that just got released on top of chamber hole with thumb bracket still pulled back, move EZ loader forward with hand. Push powder pellet back inside fingers because ball is stationary in chamber hole, then release thumb bracket and fingers end will close, ready to load again. Then taking EZ loader with right hand putting it into holster, then taking right hand and pulling down leaver seating ball and powder pellet in cylinder. Then with gun still in left hand, raise lever up and turn cylinder one turn. Pull EZ loader out of holster with right hand, repeating process five more times. This EZ Loader loads revolver in 30 seconds or less. If left handed shooter, vice versa.
PROBLEMS IT SOLVED
When using your fingers to load, the problem of dropping powder pellets and balls when handling and loading them by hand with your fingers into the revolver cylinder chambers. Loading them with the EZ loader device is not like a human finger, which is usually big and bulky. It is a precise instrument accurately and quickly delivering the powder pellet and ball into the revolver's cylinder chamber in a fast and efficient manner.
