Claims
- 1. A molecular fluorine laser, comprising:
a discharge chamber containing a laser active gas and a pair of spaced-apart electrodes for generating a spectral band including a plurality of closely-spaced spectral lines in a wavelength range between 157 mn and 158 mn; an optical resonator; and at least one tunable wavelength selection optic for selecting one or more of said plurality of closely-spaced lines, and for narrowing the one or more selected lines, to produce a narrowband output emission of said laser.
- 2. The laser of claim 1, wherein said at least one tunable wavelength selection optic includes a birefringent plate.
- 3. The laser of claim 1, wherein said at least one tunable wavelength selection optic includes a prism.
- 4. The laser of claim 1, wherein said at least one tunable wavelength selection optic includes a grating.
- 5. The laser of claim 1, wherein said at least one tunable wavelength selection optic includes an etalon.
- 6. The laser of claim 1, wherein said at least one tunable wavelength selection optic includes an optical element for etalonning the beam.
- 7. A method of tuning a molecular fluorine laser having a plurality of characteristic spectral emission lines around 157 nm, and including a gain medium including molecular fluorine, and a resonator including a tunable wavelength selection optic, comprising the steps of:
operating the laser to generate a laser beam; measuring a spectral characteristic of a beam generated by the laser; and tuning said tunable wavelength selection optic to suppress at least one of the plurality of characteristic spectral emission lines and to select and line narrow one of the characteristic emission lines to produce a desired beam spectral characteristic.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein said tuning step includes rotating said tunable wavelength selection optic.
- 9. The laser of claim 7, wherein said tunable wavelength selection optic includes a birefringent plate.
- 10. The laser of claim 7, wherein said tunable wavelength selection optic includes a prism.
- 11. The laser of claim 7, wherein said tunable wavelength selection optic includes a grating.
- 12. The laser of claim 7, wherein said tunable wavelength selection optic includes an etalon.
- 13. The laser of claim 7, wherein said tunable wavelength selection optic includes an optical element for etalonning the beam.
