Claims
- 1. A metal purlin comprising:
- an elongated metal channel having a C-shaped cross-section with an integral web, and
- a pair of metal hangers each having a metal plate with an L-shaped cross-section including a generally vertical portion and a generally horizontal portion, an inverted channel integrally formed long an upper edge of the vertical portion with a base extending outwardly from the upper edge in a direction opposite to the horizontal portion, a vertical lip affixed to an outer edge of the horizontal portion of the metal plate so as to extend downwardly therefrom and the metal plate of each hanger being affixed to a separate end of the elongated metal channel with the vertical portion abutting the separate end of the elongated channel and a lower edge of the elongated channel resting on the horizontal portion so that the inverted channel extends outwardly from the elongated metal channel in an opposite direction.
- 2. A metal building comprising:
- a pair of metal sidewalls positioned in an upright spaced apart relationship;
- a plurality of metal purlins, each purlin including an elongated metal channel having a C-shaped cross-section, and a pair of metal hangers each having a metal plate with an L-shaped cross section including a generally vertical portion and a generally horizontal portion, an inverted channel integrally formed along an upper edge of the vertical portion with a base extending outwardly from the upper edge in a direction opposite to the horizontal portion, the metal plate of each hanger being affixed to a separate end of the elongated metal channel with the vertical portion abutting the separate end of the elongated channel and a lower edge of the elongated channel resting on the horizontal portion so that the inverted channel extends outwardly from the elongated metal channel in an opposite direction;
- each inverted channel being engaged with an upper edge of one of the metal sidewalls so that the plurality of metal purlins extend between the metal sidewalls and maintain them in the upright spaced apart relationship; and
- vertical support posts each having one vertical side juxtaposed to one of the pair of metal sidewalls and an upper end abutting a lower surface of the horizontal portion of a metal plate.
- 3. A metal building as claimed in claim 2 wherein the pair of metal hangers each further include a vertical lip affixed to an outer edge of the horizontal portion of the metal plate so as to extend downwardly therefrom.
- 4. A metal building as claimed in claim 3 wherein the vertical lip engages a side of the vertical support post opposite the one vertical side juxtaposed to the metal sidewall.
- 5. A metal building as claimed in claim 4 including means for affixing the inverted channel to the upper edge of the one metal sidewall and means for affixing the vertical lip to the vertical support post.
- 6. A metal building as claimed in claim 2 including in addition a bracket with an L-shaped cross-section having one arm affixed to the elongated metal channel and another arm affixed to the vertical portion of the metal plate for affixing the elongated metal channel to the metal hangar.
