Claims
- 1. An apparatus for fabricating blind subassemblies, the apparatus comprising:
a means for forming a vane of a predetermined length; a means for positioning the vane within a ladder tape; a means for coupling the vane to the ladder tape.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the means for coupling the vane to the ladder tape comprises a sonic welder.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the means for coupling the vane to the ladder tape comprises mechanical fasteners.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the means for coupling the vane to the ladder tape comprises a thermoplastic resin.
- 5. An apparatus for fabricating tubular vanes, the apparatus comprising:
a forming guide for folding a tape along a longitudinal axis of the tape; a device for softening a thermoplastic resin, the thermoplastic resin being disposed on a portion of the tape proximate a longitudinal edge of the tape; and a clamp for pressing the portion of the tape with the thermoplastic resin into another portion of the tape proximate another longitudinal edge of the tape.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the device comprises a heater.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the device comprises a sonic welder.
- 8. An apparatus for fabricating a blind subassembly that includes a plurality of parallel slats contained between vertical cords of a plurality of ladder tapes, the apparatus comprising:
a plurality of ladder tape dispensers, each dispenser configured to align a cross rung of an associated ladder tape with cross rungs of other ladder tapes associated with each other ladder tape dispenser of the plurality of ladder tape dispensers; one or more motors for feeding the slat in between said plurality of ladder tapes; and an resin dispenser and applicator for adhesively bonding the cross rungs of the ladder tapes to the slat.
- 9. A method for fabricating a blind subassembly wherein the subassembly includes a plurality of parallel tubular slats aligned and adhered to cross rungs of a plurality of ladder tapes, the method comprising:
unrolling resin impregnated fabric tape from a roll; folding the tape along a longitudinal axis; cutting the tape to a predetermined longitudinal length; securing the longitudinal edges of the tape to each other to form a tubular vane; positioning the vane between the vertically orientated cords of each ladder tape of a plurality of ladder tapes; and attaching the vane to a cross rung of each ladder tape of the plurality of ladder tapes.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said securing the longitudinal edges of the tape to each other to form a tubular vane comprises sewing the longitudinal edges together.
- 11. The method of claim 9, wherein said securing the longitudinal edges of the tape to each other to form a tubular vane comprises adhesively joining the longitudinal edges together using a resin
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the resin is a thermoset.
- 13. The method of claim 11, wherein the resin is a thermoplastic.
- 14. An apparatus for fabricating blind assemblies, the apparatus comprising:
a means for coupling a vane to a plurality of ladder tapes, wherein said ladder tapes and said vane share at least one coincident fixed position.
