Claims
- 1. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:a blade body; a front side; a back side; an arcuate concave leading edge, the arcuate leading edge extending along a first arcuate line; an outer edge extending along a second line, at a free end of the blade body, the outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a first point at which the first and second lines intersect; a second point on the concave leading edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade; an angle defined between a first line extending from the axis to the first point and a second line extending from the axis to the second point, the angle being between 15 and 35 degrees.
- 2. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, wherein the angle is between 20 and 35 degrees.
- 3. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, wherein the angle is between 25 and 30 degrees.
- 4. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, wherein the arcuate concave leading edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the first and second points of between 0 and 0.22.
- 5. The fan blade as claimed in claim 4, further comprising:an arcuate convex trailing edge extending along a third arcuate line; a third point at which the second and third lines intersect; a fourth point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade; an angle defined between a fourth line extending from the axis to the third point and a fifth line extending from the axis to the fourth point, the angle between the fourth and fifth lines being between 10 and 35 degrees.
- 6. The fan blade as claimed in claim 5, wherein the angle between the fourth and fifth lines is between 15 and 30 degrees.
- 7. The fan blade as claimed in claim 5, wherein the angle between the fourth and fifth lines is between 20 and 25 degrees.
- 8. The fan blade as claimed in claim 5, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0 and 0.20.
- 9. The fan blade as claimed in claim 5, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 10. The fan blade as claimed in claim 5, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0.07 and 0.17.
- 11. The fan blade as claimed in claim 4, further comprising:an arcuate convex trailing edge extending along a third arcuate line; a third point at which the second and third lines intersect; a fourth point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the arcuate convex trailing edge having a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0 and 0.20.
- 12. The fan blade as claimed in claim 11, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio is between the third and fourth points is between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 13. The fan blade as claimed in claim 11, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points is between 0.07 and 0.17.
- 14. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, wherein the arcuate concave leading edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the first and second points of between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 15. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, wherein the arcuate concave leading edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the first and second points of between 0.08 and 0.17.
- 16. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, further comprising an arcuate convex trailing edge extending along a third arcuate line.
- 17. The fan blade as claimed in claim 16, further comprising:a third point at which the second and third lines intersect; a fourth point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade: and an angle defined between a fourth line extending from the axis to the third point and a fifth line extending from the axis to the fourth point, the angle being between 10 and 35 degrees.
- 18. The fan blade as claimed in claim 17, wherein the angle between the fourth and fifth lines is between 15 and 30 degrees.
- 19. The fan blade as claimed in claim 17, wherein the angle between the fourth and fifth lines is between 20 and 25 degrees.
- 20. The fan blade as claimed in claim 16, further comprising:a third point at which the second and third lines intersect; a fourth point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the arcuatc convex trailing edge having a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0 and 0.20.
- 21. The fan blade as claimed in claim 20, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio is between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 22. The fan blade as claimed in claim 20, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio is between 0.07 and 0.17.
- 23. The fan blade as claimed in claim 17 wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0. and 0.20%.
- 24. The fan blade as claimed in claim 17, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 25. The fan blade as claimed in claim 17, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0.07 and 0.17.
- 26. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 4.0% and 6.5%.
- 27. The fan blade as claimed in claim 26, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5% and 6.5%.
- 28. The fan blade as claimed in claim 26, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 5.0% and 6.0.
- 29. The fan as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.75 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.5% and 7.0%.
- 30. The fan blade as claimed in claim 29, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.0% and 6.0%.
- 31. The fan blade as claimed in claim 29, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5% and 5.5%.
- 32. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.85 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.0% and 6.5%.
- 33. The fan blade as claimed in claim 32, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0% and 5.0%.
- 34. The fan blade as claimed in claim 32, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.5% and 4.5%.
- 35. The fan blade as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape definec at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.95 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 2.0% and 5.5%.
- 36. The fan blade as claimed in claim 35, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 2.5% and 4.5%.
- 37. The fan blade as claimed in claim 35, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0% and 4.0%.
- 38. The fan blade as claimed in claim 68, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0% and 4.0%.
- 39. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:an arcuate concave leading edge; the arcuate concave leading edge extending along a first arcuate line; an outer edge extending along a second line, at a free end of the fan blade, the outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a first point at which the first and second lines intersect; and a second point on the concave leading edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the arcuate concave leading edge having a camber-to-chord ratio between the first and second points of between 0.08 and 0.17.
- 40. The fan blade as claimed in claim 39, further comprising:an arcuate convex trailing edge the extending along a third arcuate line; a third point at which the second and third lines intersect; a fourth point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65times the radius of the fan blade, the arcuate convex trailing edge having a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0 and 0.20.
- 41. The fan blade as claimed in claim 40, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the arcuate convex trailing edge is between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 42. The fan blade as claimed in claim 40, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the arcuate convex trailing edge is between 0.07 and 0.17.
- 43. The fan blade as claimed in claim 59, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 4.0% and 6.5%.
- 44. The fan blade as claimed in claim 43, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5% and 6.5%.
- 45. The fan blade as claimed in claim 43, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 5.0% and 6.0%.
- 46. The fan blade as claimed in claim 39, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.75 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.5% and 7.0%.
- 47. The fan blade as claimed in claim 46, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.0% and 6.0%.
- 48. The fan blade as claimed in claim 46, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5% and 5.5%.
- 49. The fan blade as claimed in claim 39, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.85 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.0% and 6.5%.
- 50. The fan blade as claimed in claim 49, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0% and 5.0%.
- 51. The fan blade as claimed in claim 49, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.5% and 4.5%.
- 52. The fan blade as claimed in claim 39, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.95 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 2.0% and 5.5%.
- 53. The fan blade as claimed in claim 52, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 2.5% and 4.5%.
- 54. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:an arcuate concave leading edge; an arcuate concave trailing edge, the arcuate convex trailing edge extending along a first arcuate line; an outer edge extending along a second line, at a free end of the fan blade, the outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a first point at which the first and second lines intersect; a second point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade; an angle defined between a first line extending from the axis to the first point and a second line extending from the axis to the second point, the angle being between 10 and 35 degrees.
- 55. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, wherein the angle is between 15 and 30 degrees.
- 56. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, wherein the angle is between 20 and 25 degrees.
- 57. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, wherein the arcuate concave trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the first and second points of between 0 and 0.20.
- 58. The fan blade as claimed in claim 57, wherein the camber-to-chord is between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 59. The fan blade as claimed in claim 57, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio is between 0.07 and 0.17.
- 60. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 4.0% and 6.5%.
- 61. The fan blade as claimed in claim 60, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5 and 6.5%.
- 62. The fan blade as claimed in claim 60, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 5.0 and 6.0%.
- 63. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.75 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.5% and 7.0%.
- 64. The fan blade as claimed in claim 63, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.0 and 6.0%.
- 65. The fan blade as claimed in claim 63, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5 and 5.5%.
- 66. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.85 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.0% and 6.5%.
- 67. The fan blade as claimed in claim 66, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0 and 5.0%.
- 68. The fan blade as claimed in claim 66, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.5 and 4.5%.
- 69. The fan blade as claimed in claim 54, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.95 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 2.0% and 5.5%.
- 70. The fan blade as claimed in claim 69, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 2.5 and 4.5%.
- 71. The fan blade as claimed in claim 69, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0 and 4.5%.
- 72. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:an arcuate convex trailing edge, the arcuate convex trailing edge extending along a first arcuate line; an outer edge extending along a second line at a free end of the fan blade, the outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a first point at which the first and second lines intersect; and a second point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the arcuate convex trailing edge having a camber-to-chord ratio between the first and second points of between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 73. The fan blade as claimed in claim 72, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio is between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 74. The fan blade as claimed in claim 72, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 4.0% and 6.5%.
- 75. The fan blade as claimed in claim 74, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5% and 6.5%.
- 76. The fan blade as claimed in claim 74, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 5.0% and 6.0%.
- 77. The fan blade as claimed in claim 72, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.75 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.5% and 7.0%.
- 78. The fan blade as claimed in claim 77, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.0% and 6.0%.
- 79. The fan blade as claimed in claim 77, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 4.5% and 5.5%.
- 80. The fan blade as claimed in claim 72, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.85 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.0% and 6.5%.
- 81. The fan blade as claimed in claim 80, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0% and 5.0%.
- 82. The fan blade as claimed in claim 80, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.5% and 4.5%.
- 83. The fan blade as claimed in claim 72, further comprising:a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; and a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade taken at 0.95 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 2.0% and 5.5%.
- 84. The fan blade as claimed in claim 83, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 2.5% and 4.5%.
- 85. The fan blade as claimed in claim 83, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio of the cross-sectional shape is between 3.0% and 4.0%.
- 86. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:a blade body; a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; an arcuate concave leading edge; an outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 4.0% and 6.5%.
- 87. The fan blade as claimed in claim 86, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 4.5% and 6.5%.
- 88. The fan blade as claimed in claim 86, wherein the camber-to-chord ratio is between 5.0% and 6.0%.
- 89. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:a blade body; a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; an arcuate concave leading edge; an outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.75 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.5% and 7.0%.
- 90. The fan blade as claimed in claim 89, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 4.0% and 6.0%.
- 91. The fan blade as claimed in claim 89, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 4.5% and 5.5%.
- 92. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:a blade body; a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; an arcuate concave leading edge; an outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.85 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 3.0% and 6.5%.
- 93. The fan blade as claimed in claim 92, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 3.0% and 5.0%.
- 94. The fan blade as claimed in claim 92, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 3.5% and 4.5%.
- 95. A fan blade for rotation about an axis, the fan blade comprising:a blade body; a concave front surface; a convex rear surface; an arcuate concave leading edge; an outer edge at least partially defining a radius of the fan blade extending from the axis; a cross-sectional shape defined at a cross-section of the blade body taken at 0.95 times the radius of the fan blade, the cross-sectional shape having a camber-to-chord ratio of between 2.0% and 5.5%.
- 96. The fan blade as claimed in claim 95, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 2.5% and 4.5%.
- 97. The fan blade as claimed in claim 95, where the camber-to-chord ratio is between 3.0% and 4.0%.
- 98. The fan blade as claimed in claim 39, further comprising:an arcuate convex trailing edge extending along a third arcuate line; a third point at which the second and third lines intersect; a fourth point on the convex trailing edge at a location substantially equal to 0.65 times the radius of the fan blade; an angle defined between a fourth line extending from the axis to the third point and a fifth line extending from the axis to the fourth point, the angle between the fourth and fifth lines being between 10 and 35 degrees.
- 99. The fan blade as claimed in claim 98, wherein the angle is between the fourth and fifth lines is between 15 and 30 degrees.
- 100. The fan blade as claimed in claim 98, wherein the angle is between the fourth and fifth lines is between 20 and 25 degrees.
- 101. The fan blade as claimed in claim 98, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0 and 20.
- 102. The fan blade as claimed in claim 98, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0.05 and 0.17.
- 103. The fan blade as claimed in claim 98, wherein the arcuate convex trailing edge has a camber-to-chord ratio between the third and fourth points of between 0.07 and 0.17.
