Claims
- 1. A magazine for a fastener driving tool having a driver and a base, comprising:
a plurality of fastener slides, each fastener slide having a feed end and a load end, means for mounting the magazine for movement between a plurality of feed positions wherein the feed end of each one of the fastener slides is aligned with the driver; a feed means associated with each fastener slide; and a position locking means that secures the magazine into each feed position.
- 2. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 1, wherein the means for mounting the magazine allows the magazine to slide laterally in order to align the feed end of each one of the fastener slides with the driver.
- 3. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 2, further including a plurality of mounting slots in the magazine and wherein the magazine is attached to the fastener driving tool by a plurality of removable fasteners which are disposed in the mounting slots, said mounting slots being so constructed and arranged to permit a defined amount of lateral movement of the magazine.
- 4. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 2, wherein the position locking means includes:
a plurality of alignment holes located in the driver; a pin connected with the magazine which is slid into any one of the alignment holes whereby the magazine is secured into a position in which the feed end of one of the fastener slides is aligned with the driver; and a spring which urges the pin toward the driver.
- 5. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 1, wherein the feed means includes:
a feeder which acts on fasteners loaded into the fastener slide; a spring connected with the feeder which urges the feeder toward the driver; and a spring cover connected with the fastener slide.
- 6. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 1, wherein the means for mounting the magazine includes a central core, around which the fastener slides are arranged, and a rod removably connected with the driver and the base and wherein the central core fits rotatably around the rod.
- 7. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 6, wherein the position locking means includes a pair of spring-loaded, ball bearing detents located in the driver.
- 8. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 1, further including a fastener securing means in each fastener slide.
- 9. A magazine for a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 8, wherein the fastener securing means is a magnetic strip arranged on one side of the fastener slide.
- 10. A fastener driving tool, comprising:
a base driver; a driver connected with the base; and a magazine connected with the driver and the base which includes:
a plurality of fastener slides, each fastener slide having a feed end and a load end; means for mounting the magazine for movement between a plurality of feed positions wherein the feed end of each one of the fastener slides is aligned with the driver; a feed means associated with each fastener slide; and a position locking means that secures the magazine into each feed position.
- 11. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 10, wherein the means for mounting the magazine allows the magazine to slide laterally in order to align the feed end of each one of the fastener slides with the driver.
- 12. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 11, further including a plurality of mounting slots in the magazine and wherein the magazine is attached to the fastener driving tool by a plurality of removable fasteners which are disposed in the mounting slots, said mounting slots being so constructed and arranged to permit a defined amount of lateral movement of the magazine.
- 13. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 11, wherein the position locking means includes:
a plurality of alignment holes located in the driver; a pin connected with the magazine which is slid into any one of the alignment holes whereby the magazine is secured into a position in which the feed end of one of the fastener slides is aligned with the driver; and a spring which urges the pin toward the driver.
- 14. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 10, wherein the feed means includes:
a feeder which acts on fasteners loaded into the fastener slide; a spring connected with the feeder which urges the feeder toward the driver; and a spring cover.
- 15. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 10, wherein means for mounting includes a central core, around which the fastener slides are arranged, and a rod removably connected with the driver and the base and wherein the central core fits rotatably around the rod.
- 16. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 15, wherein the position locking means includes a pair of spring-loaded, ball bearing detents located in the driver.
- 17. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 10, further including a fastener securing means in each fastener slide.
- 18. A fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 17, wherein the fastener securing means is a magnetic strip arranged on one side of the fastener slide.
- 19. A method of accommodating multiple-sized fasteners in a fastener driving tool having a driver, comprising:
providing a magazine having a plurality of fastener slides, each fastener slide having a load end and a feed end, selectively moving said magazine into a feed position wherein the feed end of one of the fastener slides is aligned with the driver; locking the magazine into the feed position with a position locking means; and feeding the driver with fasteners from the fastener slide aligned with the driver.
- 20. A method of accommodating multiple-sized fasteners in a fastener driving tool as set forth in claim 19, further including the step of loading different sized fasteners into the fastener slides whereby the step of selectively moving the magazine selects a different sized fastener.
