Claims
- 1. A fastener remover for manipulating at least one fastener, said fastener remover comprising:
at least one catheter sheath having a hollow passage therein; and a gripping member located within said hollow passage of said at least one catheter sheath, wherein said gripping member comprises a connector portion connected to an elongated stem.
- 2. The fastener remover according to claim 1, wherein said connector portion engages the fastener such that the fastener is extracted.
- 3. The fastener remover according to claim 1, further comprising a cutting member located within said hollow passage of said at least one catheter sheath, wherein said cutting member engages the fastener such that the fastener is severed.
- 4. The fastener remover according to claim 1, wherein said connector portion comprises a hook.
- 5. The fastener according to claim 1, wherein said connector portion comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending flanges.
- 6. The fastener remover according to claim 1, wherein said connector portion comprises a spike.
- 7. The fastener remover according to claim 1, wherein said connector portion comprises a retractable ring.
- 8. The fastener remover according to claim 1, wherein said connector portion comprises forceps.
- 9. A fastener remover for manipulating at least one fastener, said fastener remover comprising:
an outer catheter having a hollow passage therein with a proximal end and a distal end; an inner sheath disposed within said hollow passage of said outer catheter extending from said proximal end to said distal end of said outer catheter; and a gripping member located within said inner sheath extending from said proximal end to said distal end of said outer catheter, wherein said gripping member comprises a connector portion connected to an elongated stem.
- 10. The fastener remover according to claim 9, wherein said connector portion engages the fastener such that the fastener is extracted.
- 11. The fastener remover according to claim 9, further comprising a cutting member located within said inner sheath, wherein said cutting member engages the fastener such that the fastener is severed.
- 12. The fastener remover according to claim 9, wherein said connector portion comprises a hook.
- 13. The fastener according to claim 9, wherein said connector portion comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending flanges.
- 14. The fastener remover according to claim 9, wherein said connector portion comprises a spike.
- 15. The fastener remover according to claim 9, wherein said connector portion comprises a retractable ring.
- 16. The fastener remover according to claim 9, wherein said connector portion comprises forceps.
- 17. A fastener remover for manipulating at least one fastener integral with a surgical component and a vessel wall, said fastener remover comprising:
an outer catheter having a hollow passage therein with a proximal end and a distal end, said outer catheter extending to a site of extraction; an inner sheath disposed within said hollow passage of said outer catheter, said inner sheath extending from said proximal end to said distal end of said outer catheter; and a gripping member located within said inner sheath extending from said proximal end to said distal end of said outer catheter, said gripping member comprising a connector portion connected to an elongated stem, wherein said connector portion procures the fastener from the surgical component and the vessel wall.
- 18. The fastener remover according to claim 17, wherein said connector portion engages the fastener such that the fastener is extracted.
- 19. The fastener remover according to claim 17, further comprising a cutting member located within said inner sheath, wherein said cutting member engages the fastener such that the fastener is severed.
- 20. A method of extracting an inserted fastener at a surgical site with a fastener remover, comprising the steps of:
aligning the fastener remover with the fastener to be removed; and engaging the fastener remover to procure the fastener.
- 21. The method according to claim 20, wherein the step of engaging the fastener remover further comprises the steps of:
gripping the fastener with a connector portion of the fastener remover; and adding a force with the fastener remover to disengage the fastener such that the fastener is removed from the surgical site.
- 22. The method according to claim 21, wherein the step of adding a force with the fastener remover to disengage the fastener further comprises the step of pulling the fastener through a surgical component and a vessel wall between which the fastener was interposed.
- 23. The method according to claim 20, wherein the step of engaging the fastener remover further comprises the step of severing the fastener with a cutting member of the fastener remover.
- 24. The method according to claim 23, wherein the step of severing the fastener further comprises the step of severing the fastener flush with a surgical component, wherein the inserted fastener was interposed between the surgical component and a vessel wall.
