Claims
- 1. A faulted current indicator, comprising:
- distinguishing means for distinguishing between a first condition in which an electrical current in a cable drops below a first value within a given time after reaching a second value, and a second condition in which the current in the cable fails to drop below the first value within the given time, and
- trip signal means responsive to said distinguishing means for producing trip signals only in response to the first condition and disabling the trip signals at all other times.
- 2. A faulted current indicator according to claim 1, wherein said distinguishing means further includes inrush restraint means for preventing said trip signal means from producing a trip signal in response to current inrushes.
- 3. A faulted current indicator according to claim 1, further including sensing means for providing said distinguishing means with indications of a value of the electrical current in the cable.
- 4. A faulted current indicator comprising,
- sensing means for sensing a current in a cable and providing an output indicative of a value of the current,
- storage means coupled to said sensing means for temporarily storing and producing an output representative of peaks of said sensed current,
- trip signal means coupled to said storage means for producing a trip signal in response to said storage means output increasing beyond a first value, and
- fault signal means, coupled to said trip signal means and to said sensing means, for generating a fault signal in response to said trip signal when said sensing means output decreases below a second value, and being unresponsive to said trip signal at other times.
- 5. A faulted current indicator according to claim 4 further comprising target means responsive to said fault signal for producing a user display indicative of the presence of said fault signal.
- 6. A faulted current indicator according to claim 4, further comprising reset means coupled to said sensing means for resetting said user display of said target means in response to said sensing means output having at least a third value.
