Claims
- 1. A system for feeding comminuted cellulosic fibrous material to a treatment vessel, comprising:a first vessel containing a slurry of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material having a first liquid-to-material volume ratio; a high-pressure transfer device having a low-pressure inlet, a low-pressure outlet, a high-pressure inlet and a high-pressure outlet, the high pressure outlet connected to said treatment vessel; pressurizing and transferring means for pressurizing and transferring the slurry from said first vessel to said low-pressure inlet of said high-pressure transfer device; and liquid-removing means located between said pressurizing means and said low-pressure inlet of said high-pressure transfer device for removing at least some of the liquid from the slurry to provide a slurry having a second liquid-to-material volume ratio less than said first ratio.
- 2. A system as recited in claim 1 wherein the liquid-removing means is a cylindrical device having a concentric cylindrical screen through which the slurry passes and from which liquid can be removed.
- 3. A system as recited in claim 1 wherein said liquid-removing means comprises an In-line Drainer.
- 4. A cellulosic fibrous material treating system comprising:a material slurrying vessel for forming a slurry; a high pressure transfer device including a low pressure inlet, low pressure outlet, high pressure inlet and high pressure outlet; said slurrying vessel operatively connected to said low pressure inlet and said low pressure outlet of said high pressure transfer device; a treatment vessel connected to said high pressure outlet of said high pressure transfer device; means for removing some liquid from slurry moving between said high pressure outlet of said high pressure transfer device and said treatment vessel and for circulating the liquid removed from the slurry to said high pressure inlet of said high pressure transfer device; and said system devoid of a connection from said treatment vessel to said high pressure inlet of said high pressure transfer device.
- 5. A system as recited in claim 4 further comprising means for removing some liquid from the slurry between said slurrying vessel and said low pressure inlet of said high pressure transfer device, and for returning removed liquid to said slurrying vessel.
- 6. A system for feeding comminuted cellulosic fibrous material to a treatment vessel having an inlet, comprising:a first vessel containing a slurry of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material having a first liquid-to-material volume ratio; a high-pressure transfer device having an low-pressure inlet, a low-pressure outlet, a high-pressure inlet and a high-pressure outlet; pressurizing and transferring means for pressurizing and transferring the slurry from said first vessel to said low-pressure inlet of said high-pressure transfer device; means for diluting said slurry and transferring the slurry from said high-pressure outlet of said high-pressure transfer device to said treatment vessel at a second liquid-to-material volume ratio, greater than the first liquid-to-material volume ratio; and means for removing at least some of the liquid from the slurry located between said high-pressure outlet of said high-pressure transfer device and said treatment vessel inlet to provide a slurry having a third liquid-to-material volume ratio, less than the second liquid-to-material volume ratio, so as to feed slurry with the third liquid-to-material volume ratio to the inlet of said treatment vessel.
- 7. A system as recited in claim 6 wherein said pressurizing and transferring means comprises a chip pump.
- 8. A system as recited in claim 6 wherein said pressurizing and transferring means comprises a pump for drawing the slurry into said high-pressure transfer device.
- 9. A system as recited in claim 6 wherein said means for removing liquid from the slurry comprises a cylindrical device having a concentric cylindrical screen through which the slurry passes and from which liquid can be removed.
- 10. A system as recited in claim 6 wherein said means for removing liquid from the slurry comprises an In-line Drainer.
- 11. A system for feeding a slurry of comminuted cellulosic fibrous material to a treatment vessel, comprising:a first vessel containing a slurry of material and liquid having a top and a bottom, with an inlet adjacent said top and an outlet adjacent said bottom; a high-pressure transfer device having a low pressure inlet, a low pressure outlet, a high-pressure inlet, and a high-pressure outlet, said high-pressure outlet operatively connected to said treatment vessel; a pump, operatively connected to said outlet of said first vessel and said low-pressure inlet of said high-pressure transfer device; and means located between said pump and said treatment vessel for removing liquid from the slurry of material and liquid.
