Claims
- 1. A sealing apparatus for sealing coaxial and relatively rotated inner and outer elements made of a magnetic material in which a magnetically permeable fluid holding means for positioning a magnetic fluid is provided, said magnetic fluid holding means being attached to the outer element to form a fine annular clearance between the fluid holding means and the inner element, so that the magnetic fluid is positioned within said fine annular clearance, said magnetic fluid holding means comprising:
- a holder made of a non-magnetic material and having a cylindrical portion, said holder being secured to said outer element by adhesive material, said holder having an extension portion extending from said cylindrical portion toward said inner element and providing a fine clearance with said inner element; said extension portion having an annular projection located thereon and extending parallel to said cylindrical portion; and
- an annular magnetic piece located in an annular space between said cylindrical portion of said holder and said extension portion of said holder and having a fine clearance with said cylindrical portion and being positioned by engagement with said annular projection on said extension portion to be coaxially arranged with said holder, said annular magnetic piece being secured by adhesive material filled within said fine clearance of said holder and being magnetized axially to form a magnetic circuit through the fine clearance with the inner element, so that said magnetic fluid is retained within said magnetic circuit.
- 2. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said cylindrical portion of said holder having an inner annular surface and an outer annular surface, said inner annular surface being located inside said outer annular surface,
- said outer annular surface having a portion thereof adjacent to said outer element located closer to said inner annular surface in order to form an annular space with said outer element; and
- said holder is secured to said outer element by a pile of adhesive material located in said space between said holder and said outer element.
- 3. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said extension portion includes a plurality of additional projections extending parallel to said cylindrical portion and having substantially the same projected amount as said annular projection on said extension portion of said holder.
- 4. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said magnetic piece comprises an annular permanent magnet having two sides and an annular pole piece made of a magnetic material fixed to each of said sides.
- 5. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said extension portion of said holder having an inner annular surface and an outer annular surface, said inner annular surface being located within said outer annular surface, said inner annular surface having a portion thereof adjacent to said magnetic piece located closer to said outer annular surface in order to provide an annular space with said magnetic piece, and a pile of adhesive being located in said annular space.
- 6. The sealing apparatus of claim 1 wherein said adhesive is an ultra-violet ray curing type with low viscosity.
- 7. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein an annular space is provided between said extension portion of said holder and said magnetic piece.
- 8. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said holder is made of a non-magnetic metal material and shaped an L-Letter in a cross-sectional view with a pressing process.
- 9. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said outer element is provided as a housing and said inner element is a ring collar fixed to a shaft.
- 10. The sealing apparatus of claim 1, wherein said adhesive is an electrically conductive adhesive and said magnetic fluid is an electrically conductive magnetic fluid.
- 11. The sealing apparatus of claim 2 or claim 10, wherein an annular space is provided between said holder and said outer element, said space containing an electrically conductive adhesive which is overlayed by an ultraviolet ray type adhesive with low viscosity.
- 12. The sealing apparatus of claim 9 or claim 10, wherein an annular space is provided between the housing and the holder and said space contains an electrically conductive adhesive and which is overlayed by an ultraviolet ray type adhesive with low viscosity.
- 13. The sealing apparatus for sealing inner and outer rings made of a magnetically permeable material and coaxially and relatively rotated through a plurality of rolling members lubricated with a grease in which a magnetic fluid holding means for storing a magnetic fluid is provided, said magnetic fluid holding means being attached to said outer ring to form a fine annular clearance with said inner ring, so that the magnetic fluid is positioned within the fine clearance, said magnetic fluid holding means comprising:
- a holder made of a non-magnetic material and having a cylindrical portion, said holder being secured to said outer ring via an adhesive, said holder also having an extension portion extending toward said inner ring and providing a fine clearance with said inner ring;
- said extension portion having an annular projection located thereon and extending parallel to said cylindrical portion; and
- an annular magnetic piece located in an annular space between said cylindrical portion of said holder and said extension portion of said holder and having a fine clearance with said cylindrical portion and being positioned by engagement with said annular projection on said extension portion to be coaxially arranged with said holder, said annular magnetic piece being secured by adhesive material filled within said fine clearance with said holder and being magnetized axially to form a magnetic circuit through the fine clearance with the inner ring, so that said magnetic fluid is retained within said magnetic circuit.
- 14. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said cylindrical portion of said holder having an inner annular surface and an outer annular surface, said inner annular surface being located inside said outer annular surface,
- said outer annular surface having a portion thereof adjacent to said outer element located closer to said inner annular surface in order to form an annular space with said outer element, and a pile of adhesive being located in said annular space.
- 15. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said extension portion includes a plurality of additional projections extending parallel to said cylindrical portion and having substantially the same projected amount as said annular projection on said extension portion of said holder.
- 16. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said magnetic piece comprises an annular permanent magnet having two sides and an annular pole piece made of a magnetic material fixed to each of said sides.
- 17. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said magnetic piece comprises an annular permanent magnet and an annular pole piece having first and second sides and made of a magnetic material, said annular pole piece being fixed to said extension portion of said holder along said first side and a space is provided between a portion of said annular permanent magnet and said second side of said annular pole piece.
- 18. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said magnetic piece comprises an annular permanent magnet in which there is provided an annular groove narrower than the axial width of said permanent magnet at an end of said permanent magnet which faces said inner ring.
- 19. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said extension portion of said holder having an inner annular surface and an outer annular surface, said inner annular surface being located within said outer annular surface, said inner annular surface having a portion thereof adjacent to said magnetic piece located closer to said outer annular surface in order to provide an annular space with said magnetic piece, and a pile of adhesive being located in said annular space.
- 20. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein said adhesive is an ultra-violet ray curing type with low viscosity.
- 21. The sealing apparatus of claim 13, wherein a space is provided between said extension portion of said holder and said magnetic piece.
- 22. A rolling bearing having a sealing apparatus for sealing inner and outer rings made of a magnetically permeable material and coaxially and relatively rotated through a plurality of rolling members lubricated with a grease, said sealing apparatus comprising:
- a magnetic fluid holding means for storing a magnetic fluid, said magnetic fluid holding means being attached to said outer ring to form a fine clearance with the outer surface of said inner ring;
- a magnetic fluid being positioned within said fine clearance by said magnetic fluid holding means;
- an annular seal element having first and second ends, made of an elastic material and reinforced with a metal core, said annular seal element being provided between said magnetic fluid holding means and said rolling members,
- said first end of said annular seal element being fixed in an annular groove formed in said outer ring and said second end of said annular seal element being loosely engaged in an annular groove formed in said inner ring,
- said magnetic fluid holding means comprises:
- a holder made a non-magnetic material and having a cylindrical portion, said holder being secured to said outer ring via an adhesive, said holder also having an extension portion extending toward said inner ring and providing a fine clearance with said inner ring, said extension portion having an annular projection located and extending parallel to said cylindrical portion; and
- an annular magnetic piece located in an annular space between said cylindrical portion of said holder and said extension portion of aid holder and having a fine clearance with said cylindrical portion and being positioned by engagement with said annular projection on said extension portion to be coaxially arranged with said holder, said annular magnetic piece being secured by adhesive material filled within said fine clearance with said holder and being magnetized axially to form a magnetic circuit through the fine clearance with the inner ring, so that said magnetic fluid is retained within said magnetic circuit.
