Claims
- 1. A foam laminate precursor ready for molding comprising a layer of foam, a layer of adhesive on at least one major face of said layer of foam and a wet laid, nonwoven, fibrous mat having a binder therein cured to only a "B" stage, bonded to said layer of cured adhesive, said binder being a crosslinking acrylic copolymer having a glass transition temperature of at least about 45 degrees C.
- 2. A foam laminate as described in claim 1 wherein the major portion of the mat is glass fibers at least 1.1 inch long.
- 3. A foam laminate as described in claim 1 wherein the crossing, unbonded fibers contain man made or natural organic fibers.
- 4. A foam laminate as described in claim 2 wherein the resin binder has a glass transition temperature in the range of about 50 to about 72 degrees C.
- 5. A foam laminate as described in claim 4 wherein the glass transition temperature of the resin binder is about 50 to about 60 degrees C.
- 6. A method of making a foam laminate comprising coating a layer of foam with a layer of adhesive on at least one major face of said layer of foam and placing a wet laid, nonwoven, fibrous mat having a binder therein cured to only a "B" stage, onto said at least one layer of adhesive and molding the resultant sandwich at a temperature exceeding 300 degrees F. for a time sufficient to fully cure the binder in said mat and the adhesive, said mat binder being a crosslinking acrylic copolymer having a glass transition temperature of at least about 45 degrees C.
- 7. A method of making a foam laminate as described in claim 6 wherein the major portion of the mat is glass fibers at least 1.1 inch long.
- 8. A foam laminate as described in claim 6 wherein the crossing, unbonded fibers contain man made or natural organic fibers.
- 9. A foam laminate as described in claim 7 wherein the resin binder has a glass transition temperature in the range of about 50 to about 72 degrees C.
- 10. A foam laminate as described in claim 9 wherein the glass transition temperature of the resin binder is about 50 to about 60 degrees C.
- 11. A foam laminate produced by the process of claim 6.
