Claims
- 1. A fiber optic connector adapter for coupling to a fiber optic connector to enable termini of the fiber optic connector to be tested by way of a test probe, the fiber optic connector having an annular threaded surface, the fiber optic connector adapter comprising:
- a generally cylindrical, adapter body;
- a coupling nut, adapted to be axially secured to said adapter body, said coupling nut having an annular threaded surface for coupling to said annular threaded surface on said fiber optic connector.
- a generally cylindrical insert having a predetermined number of annular bores for receiving the fiber optic test probe, said insert adapted to be axially seated on one end in said adapter body;
- a probe retention clip with resilient fingers disposed in each of said predetermined number of annular bores, said annular clips adapted to lock said test probe in said bores; and
- a retention ring for axially securing said insert relative to said adapter body.
- 2. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim 1, further including an alignment sleeve for aligning respective termini.
- 3. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim further including an alignment sleeve disposed in said predetermined number of annular bores for aligning said termini.
- 4. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined number of bores is greater than one resulting in a multi-channel fiber optic connector adapter.
- 5. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined number of bores is one resulting in a single channel fiber optic connector adapter.
- 6. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim 1, wherein said connector adapter is configured as a plug.
- 7. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim 6, wherein said insert is configured as a socket insert.
- 8. A fiber optic connector adapter as recited in claim 6, wherein said insert is configured as a pin insert.
- 9. A fiber optic receptacle connector adapter for coupling to a fiber optic connector to enable termini of the fiber optic connector to be tested by way of a test probe, the fiber optic plug connector having an annular female threaded surface, the fiber optic connector adapter comprising:
- a generally cylindrical, adapter body with a male threaded portion for coupling to said annular female threaded surface on said fiber optic connector;
- a generally cylindrical insert having a predetermined number of annular bores for receiving the fiber optic test probe, said insert adapted to be axially seated on one end in said adapter body;
- a probe retention clip with one or more resilient fingers disposed in each of said predetermined number of annular bores, said annular clips adapted to lock said test probe in said bores; and
- a retention ring for axially securing said insert relative to said adapter body.
- 10. A fiber optic receptacle connector as recited in claim 9, wherein predetermined number is greater than one resulting in a multi-channel receptacle adapter.
- 11. A fiber optic receptacle connector as recited in claim 9, wherein said predetermined number is one resulting in a single-channel receptacle adapter.
- 12. A fiber optic receptacle connector as recited in claim 9, wherein said insert is configured as a socket insert.
- 13. A fiber optic receptacle connector as recited in claim 9, wherein said insert is configured as a pin insert.
- 14. A fiber optic receptacle connector as recited in claim 9, further including alignment sleeves disposed in said predetermined number of annular bores for aligning said termini.
