Claims
- 1. A process of making a thermal and acoustical insulation product comprising the steps of:
- a) mixing fiberglass of from 0.250" to 5" in length and from 5 to 20 microns in diameter with a co-hinder, said co-binder being scrap nylon fibers of less than 0.25" in length to form a fiberglass-nylon fibers mixture;
- b) spreading the fiberglass-nylon fibers mixture apart;
- c) adding a thermo-setting resin to said fiberglass-nylon mixture to form an uncured product;
- d) subjecting the uncured product to at least a first curing condition to form a first cured product;
- e) cooling the first cured product; and,
- f) cutting said first cured product to a desired length and width.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said at least a first curing condition is a partial curing condition of from 200.degree. F. to 300.degree. F. in temperature for a period of from 1 to 3 minutes.
- 3. The process of claim 1 including the further step, after step e), molding the first cured product to a preselected size and shape, said molding being by subjecting the first cured product to a second curing condition of from 375.degree. F. to 450.degree. F. for 45 to 145 seconds in a mold.
- 4. The process of claim 3 wherein said molding includes subjecting the first cured product to a pressure of from 2 to 10 psi for a period of from 45 to 150 seconds.
- 5. The process of claim 1, said thermo-setting resin including epoxy resins, vinyl esters, urethane silicones, or mixtures thereof.
- 6. The process of claim 1 wherein said fiberglass is from 20 to 80% by weight, said nylon is from 1 to 30% by weight, and said thermo-setting resin is from 5 to 35% by weight.
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein said nylon is less than 0.1875" in diameter and from 10 to 30 diener.
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein said thermo-setting resin is a phenolic resin.
- 9. The process of claim 8 wherein said phenolic resin is a phenolic formaldehyde.
