Claims
- 1. Agend fiber comprising:
(a) a fiber forming component that maintains fiber properties under conditions of intended use, and (b) an agend component that comprises an extrudable composition containing an active agent and a positive displacement carrier providing dispensing of said active agent under conditions of intended use.
- 2. A monocomponent fiber in accordance with claim 1.
- 3. A multicomponent fiber in accordance with claim 1.
- 4. A multicomponent fiber in accordance with claim 1 having a sheath/core construction.
- 5. A multicomponent fiber in accordance with claim 4 having a core and at least two additional concentric components.
- 6. A multicomponent fiber in accordance with claim 5 wherein at least two of said additional concentric components comprise agends having different active agent dispensing rates.
- 7. A wet spun fiber in accordance with claim 1.
- 8. A dry spun fiber in accordance with claim 1.
- 9. An agend fiber in accordance with claim 1 wherein the active agent is selected from the group consisting of skin care agents, therapeutic agents, and cleansing agents.
- 10. An agend fiber in accordance with claim 9 wherein the positive displacement carrier is selected from the group consisting of aqueous based polymer systems and non-aqueous based polymer systems.
- 11. An agend fiber in accordance with claim 10 wherein the positive displacement carrier is an aqueous based polymer system selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol, sodium alginate, hydroxypropyl metylcellulose and chitosan.
- 12. An agend fiber in accordance with claim 10 wherein the positive displacement carrier is a non-aqueous based polymer system selected from the group consisting of polyurethanes, ethylene vinyl acetate, acrylic based polymers, and chitin.
- 13. An agend fiber in accordance with claim 1 wherein the fiber forming component is selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyesters, and nylons.
- 14. The agend fiber in accordance with claim 1 as an element of a nonwoven fabric.
- 15. The agend fiber in accordance with claim 1 as an element of a textile.
- 16. The agend fiber in accordance with claim 14 as a component of a personal care product selected from the group consisting of diapers, training pants, refastenable pants, absorbent underpants, feminine hygiene products, and adult incontinent products.
- 17. The agend fiber in accordance with claim 14 as a component of a wound dressing.
- 18. The agend fiber in accordance with claim 14 as a wipe.
