Claims
- 1. A method for installation of optical fibre transmission lines comprising providing at least one container of coiled optical fibre package, the container having a substantially annular configuration with an outer side wall and a substantially concentric inner wall and having the fibre package coiled around the inner wall in a sequence of turns each turn having 360 degrees of torsion and being offset from adjacent turns, feeding an end of the fibre package from the container into an installation duct and advancing it through the duct by fluid drag while maintaining the container of fibre package rotationally stationary.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 including collecting excess fibre emerging from a remote end of the duct from the installation end by coiling into an annular container in a sequence of turns each turn having 360 degrees of torsion and being offset with respect to adjacent turns, with the annular container at the remote end of the duct being maintained rotationally stationary while the fibre package is being coiled.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 in which a fibre package in a container having a bottom has an end at the bottom of the container and the feeding an end of the fibre package is by releasing the end of the package at the bottom of the container and feeding that end into an installation duct while maintaining the container rotationally stationary.
- 4. A method according to claim 3 in which the releasing of the fibre end at the bottom is by inverting the container and disposing the inverted coil of fibre package into another container.
- 5. A method according to claim 3 in which the container has a removable base and the fibre end at the bottom is released by removing the removable base.
- 6. A method according to claim 3 in which a continuous length of fibre is installed into two installation ducts extending respectively in two directions, installing a first end of the fibre package from the top of a fibre package and installing the second end after release from the bottom of the fibre package.
- 7. A method according to claim 1 in which the advancing of the end of the fibre package through the duct includes blowing it at tandem locations along the duct.
