Claims
- 1. A wound-healing dressing comprising a water-swellable, substantially water insoluble shaped gel of fibronectin, a biologically active fragment of fibronectin or a biologically active analog of fibronectin.
- 2. A dressing according to claim 1 which further comprises collagen.
- 3. A dressing according to claim 1 which further comprises a medicament.
- 4. A dressing according to claim 3 wherein the medicament is an antibiotic.
- 5. A dressing according to claim 3 wherein the medicament is selected from the group consisting of antibiotics, antimicrobial agents, antiviral agents, antiinflammatory agents, anti-protease agents, hormones, vitamins, analgesics, chelating agents, mitogenic agents and mixtures thereof.
- 6. A dressing according to claim 1 in the form of a sheet, strip, wedge, strand or a solid having an I-shaped cross section.
- 7. A water-swellable and substantially water-insoluble wound healing dressing prepared by a method comprising reacting a solution containing fibronectin or a biologically active fragment of fibronectin or a biologically active analog of fibronectin with an agent which changes the pH or osmolarity of the solution and thereby forming a fibronectin flocculent, recovering the floocculent from the solution, forming the flocculent into a desired solid shape and drying the solid shape.
- 8. A method for promoting the healing of a corneal wound comprising inserting into the wound a dressing according to claim 1.
- 9. A method for promoting the healing of a corneal wound comprising inserting into the wound a dressing according to claim 8.
- 10. The dressing according to claim 7 further comprising collagen.
