Abstract
The invention relates to a field chopper having at least one rotatable lower rough-press roll and at least one rotatable upper rough-press roll. Between the rough-press rolls crop is pressed and fed to a chopping drum where blades chop the crop. A space is defined down stream of the moveable rough-pressing roll between the chopping drum, the stream of pressed crop and the movable rough-press roll. Located in this space is a pressing element that acts on the pressed crop and which exerts a rough-pressing effect on the pressed crop downstream of the movable rough-press roll and upstream of the chopping drum.
Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a side elemental view, in schematic, of a field chopper with a feeding device and embodying the principles of the present invention; and

FIG. 2 is an enlarged schematic side view of a portion of the field chopper seen in FIG. 1.

Claims
  • 1. Field chopper comprising at least one rotatable lower rough-press roll and at least one rotatable upper rough-press roll between which pressed crop can be fed and led to a chopping drum arranged directly downstream of the rough-press rolls, blades distributed around the periphery of this chopping drum interact with a counter blade to chop crop, the rough-press roll arranged opposite the counter blade being able to move generally orthogonal to the direction of movement of the pressed crop and being tensioned toward the other rough-press roll, a generally triangular cross-sectional space is defined by the pressed crop downstream of the movable rough-press roll, the chopping drum, and the movable rough-press roil, and a pressing element located in the space an acting on the pressed crop to exert a rough-pressing effect on the pressed crop downstream of the movable rough-press roll and upstream of the chopping drum.
  • 2. The field chopper according to claim 1, wherein the pressing element can move orthogonal to the movement direction of the pressed crop and is tensioned toward the pressed crop.
  • 3. The field chopper according to claim 1, wherein the pressing element is free-running or can rotate in a driven way.
  • 4. The field chopper according to claim 1, wherein the pressing element is cylindrical and has a significantly smaller diameter than the movable rough-press roll.
  • 5. The field chopper according to claim 1, wherein the pressing element is movable in common with the movable rough-press roll.
  • 6. The field chopper according to claim 1, wherein the movable rough-press roll is mounted on a rocker, which is connected to a take-in housing by pivot elements mounted on rotational points.
  • 7. The field chopper according to claim 6, wherein the pressing element is attached to a holder connected to the rocker.
  • 8. A field chopper for harvesting crops, the field chopper comprising: at least one rotatable lower rough-press roll;at least one rotatable upper rough-press roll, the upper and lower rough-press rolls being located opposite one another so that crop can be pressed therebetween and fed therefrom in a feeding direction;a rotatable chopping drum arranged downstream of the lower and upper rough-press rolls so as to receive crop from the upper and lower rough-press rolls, the chopping drum having a periphery with blades distributed there around;a fixed counter blade located adjacent the chopping drum and cooperating with the blades on the periphery of the chopping drum to chop crop fed to the chopping drum, the counter blade being arranged generally adjacent one of the rough-press rolls and generally opposite the other of the rough-press rolls;the rough-press roll arranged generally opposite of the counter blade being moveable in a generally orthogonal direction to the feeding direction of the pressed crop and being tensioned toward the rough-press roll arranged adjacent to the counter blade;a space located down stream of the rough-press rolls and being defined generally between the moveable rough-press roll, the chopping drum and a stream defined by the pressed crop; anda pressing element located in the space and being biased in a direction toward the stream of the pressed crop to affect a further pressing of the crop upstream of the chopping drum.
  • 9. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the space is triangular in cross section.
  • 10. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the pressing element is moveable generally orthogonal to the stream of the pressed crop.
  • 11. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the pressing element is biased toward the pressed crop.
  • 12. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the pressing element is free-running.
  • 13. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the pressing element is driven.
  • 14. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the pressing element is cylindrical and has a diameter that is smaller than the diameter of the movable rough-press roll.
  • 15. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the pressing element is movable with the movable rough-press roll.
  • 16. The field chopper according to claim 8, wherein the movable rough-press roll is mounted on a rocker and the rocker is pivotally connected to a take-in housing by pivot elements mounted on rotational points.
  • 17. The field chopper according to claim 16 wherein the pressing element is connected to the rocker.
