Claims
- 1. A fielding practice bat, comprising:
a frame integrally connecting a head portion and a handle portion, wherein said frame has a length about 29-34 inches and a weight about 30-35 ounces, wherein said head portion is generally tear-drop in shape and has a width no greater than 10 inches, and said handle portion has a length about 7-13 inches. a plurality of main strands of elastic tubing and a plurality of cross stands of elastic tubing within said head portion, creating a head surface; and a means for securing said plurality of main strands of elastic tubing and said plurality of cross strands of elastic tubing to said head portion of said frame.
- 2. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, wherein said frame is U-shaped having a first rim, a second rim, a recessed bottom, and a plurality of holes uniformly spaced on said recessed bottom, wherein said means for securing said plurality of main strands and said plurality of cross strands comprise passing said plurality of main strands and said plurality of cross strands through said plurality of holes.
- 3. The fielding practice bat according to claim 2, wherein a single piece of elastic tubing comprises said plurality of main strands and said plurality of cross strands and said piece of elastic tubing is woven through said plurality of holes.
- 4. The fielding practice bat according to claim 2, wherein two or more pieces of elastic tubing comprise said plurality of main strands and said plurality of cross strands.
- 5. The fielding practice bat according to claim 4, wherein a first piece of elastic tubing comprises said plurality of main strands and a second piece of elastic tubing comprises said plurality of cross strands.
- 6. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, further comprising a throat piece for defining a bottom edge of said head portion of said frame, wherein at least one main strand is interwoven through said throat piece.
- 7. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of main strands and said plurality of cross strands are elastic tubing having a diameter of about {fraction (5/16)} inches and a wall thickness of about {fraction (3/32)} inches.
- 8. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, wherein said means for securing said plurality of main strands of elastic tubing and said plurality of cross strands of elastic tubing to said head portion of said frame is selected from the group of tying off the ends, a screw with a sheath, a pin with locking flange, a golf-tee pin, a pin with cap, or a sawtooth fastener.
- 9. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, further comprising a means for locking one said main strand with one said cross strand wherein said one said main strand crosses said one said cross strand.
- 10. The fielding practice bat according to claim 9, wherein said means for locking comprises an adhesive.
- 11. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, wherein said frame is made of aluminum.
- 12. A fielding practice bat according to claim 1, further comprising a butt cap positioned over the end of said handle portion.
- 13. The fielding practice bat according to claim 1, further comprising one or more weights and a means for removably attaching said weights to said frame.
- 14. The fielding practice bat according to claim 13, wherein said means for removably attaching said weights comprises a clip.
- 15. The fielding practice bat according to claim 2, further comprising one or more weights and a means for removably attaching said weights to said frame.
- 16. The fielding practice bat according to claim 15, wherein said means for removably attaching said weights comprises a first recessed channel horizontally positioned on a first side of one said weight and a second recessed channel horizontally positioned on a second side of said one said weight, such that said first recessed channel engages said first rim and said second recessed channel engages said second rim.
- 17. The fielding practice bat according to claim 2, wherein each said hole further comprises a grommet covering the edge of said hole.
- 18. A forming grid for use with a fielding practice bat, comprising a frame integrally connecting a head portion and a handle portion, a plurality of main strands of elastic tubing and a plurality of cross strands of elastic tubing within the head portion, creating a head surface, the forming grid comprising:
a matrix of cells, wherein the plurality of main strands and the plurality of cross strands of the fielding practice bat are interwoven through said matrix of cells such that an intersection of a single main strand and a single cross strand is positioned in each said cell.
- 19. The forming grid according to claim 18, wherein said matrix of cells comprises eight (8) horizontal cells and fourteen (14) vertical cells.
- 20. The forming grid according to claim 18, wherein each said cell of said matrix has an outer dimension of about 1.0×1.0 inches and an interior dimension of about 0.50×0.50 inches.
