Claims
- 1. A film processing solution cartridge comprising:
a housing operable to be replaceably attached to a film processing system; a chamber disposed within the housing; and a film processing solution disposed within the chamber.
- 2. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, further comprising a bladder disposed within the chamber and containing the film processing solution.
- 3. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, further comprising a flexible tube in communication with the film processing solution within the chamber, the flexible tube forming a portion of a peristaltic pump.
- 4. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, wherein the film processing solution cartridge can be refilled with film processing solution.
- 5. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, further comprising an applicator.
- 6. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 5, wherein the applicator comprises a slot coater device.
- 7. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 5, wherein the applicator comprises a fluid jet applicator.
- 8. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 5, wherein the applicator is movably attached to the housing.
- 9. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 8, wherein the applicator is pivotally attached to the housing.
- 10. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 8, further comprising a docking station operable to receive the applicator.
- 11. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 8, further comprising a capping station operable to receive the applicator.
- 12. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 8, further comprising a cleaning station operable to clean the applicator.
- 13. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, further comprising a fluid indicator operable to facilitate in determining the quantity of processing solution contained within the chamber.
- 14. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 13, wherein the fluid indicator comprises an electronic device operable to track the quantity of dispensed processing solution.
- 15. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 14, wherein the electronic device comprises an EPROM.
- 16. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 13, wherein the fluid indicator comprises a site gage.
- 17. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, further comprising a fluid communication system operable to communicate the processing solution to an applicator.
- 18. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 17, wherein the fluid communication system includes a shuttle valve operable to open upon installation of the film processing solution cartridge into the film processing system.
- 19. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 17, wherein the fluid communication system includes a leak valve operable to prevent leakage of processing solution from the film procession solution cartridge.
- 20. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, wherein the housing is fabricated from plastic.
- 21. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 20, wherein the housing is fabricated from plastic.
- 22. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, wherein the housing includes an locating feature operable to locate the film processing solution cartridge within the film processing system.
- 23. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, wherein the film processing solution comprises a developer solution.
- 24. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, wherein the film processing solution includes a bleaching agent.
- 25. The film processing solution cartridge of claim 1, wherein the film processing system comprises a digital film processing system.
- 26. An applicator station for a film processing system comprising:
a reservoir containing a sufficient quantity of a processing solution to coat the processing solution onto multiple rolls of film; an applicator operable to coat the processing solution onto the film; and a fluid delivery system operable to communicate the processing solution from the reservoir to the applicator.
- 27. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the reservoir comprises a container operable to be replaceably coupled to the film processing system.
- 28. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the reservoir can be refilled with processing solution.
- 29. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the reservoir comprises a collapsible container configured to collapse as the processing solution is dispensed therefrom.
- 30. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the developer solution comprises a developer solution.
- 31. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the fluid delivery system comprises a peristaltic pumping system.
- 32. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the fluid delivery system includes a piston operable to compress the reservoir.
- 33. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the applicator comprises a slot coat applicator.
- 34. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the applicator comprises a fluid jet applicator.
- 35. The applicator station of claim 26, wherein the reservoir and applicator are integrated in a developer cartridge.
- 36. The applicator station of claim 35, wherein the applicator is movably coupled to the reservoir.
- 37. The applicator station of claim 36, further comprising a docking station operable to receive the applicator.
- 38. The applicator station of claim 35, wherein the developer cartridge includes a fluid communication system.
- 39. The applicator station of claim 38, wherein the fluid communication system is operable to be acted upon by a peristaltic pump.
- 40. The applicator station of claim 38, wherein the fluid communication system includes a shuttle valve operable to open upon installation of the developer cartridge into the film processing system.
- 41. The applicator station of claim 35, wherein the developer cartridge includes an locating feature operable to locate the developer cartridge within the film processing system.
- 42. A digital film processing system comprising:
an applicator station having a processing solution cartridge, the applicator station operable to coat a processing solution onto a film; a scanning system operable to scan the coated film and produce sensor data; and a data processing system operable to receive the sensor data and produce a digital image.
- 43. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the processing solution cartridge comprises:
a housing; a chamber disposed within the housing containing the processing solution; and a film processing solution disposed within the chamber.
- 44. The digital film processing system of claim 43, wherein the processing solution cartridge further comprises a collapsible container disposed within the chamber and containing the film processing solution.
- 45. The digital film processing system of claim 43, wherein the processing solution cartridge includes an applicator operable to coat the processing solution onto the film.
- 46. The digital film processing system of claim 45, wherein the applicator comprises a slot coat applicator.
- 47. The digital film processing system of claim 45, wherein the processing solution cartridge further comprises a fluid communication system operable to communicate the processing solution from the chamber to the applicator.
- 48. The digital film processing system of claim 47, wherein the fluid communication system includes a flexible tube forming a portion of a peristaltic pumping system.
- 49. The digital film processing system of claim 47, wherein the fluid communication system includes a shuttle valve operable to open upon installation of the processing solution cartridge into the digital film processing system.
- 50. The digital film processing system of claim 47, wherein the fluid communication system includes a leak valve operable to prevent leakage of processing solution from the procession solution cartridge.
- 51. The digital film processing system of claim 45, wherein the applicator is movably attached to the housing.
- 52. The digital film processing system of claim 45, wherein the processing solution cartridge further comprises a docking station operable to receive the applicator.
- 53. The digital film processing system of claim 45, further comprising a capping station operable to receive the applicator.
- 54. The digital film processing system of claim 45, further comprising a cleaning station operable to substantially clean the applicator.
- 55. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the processing solution cartridge includes a fluid level indicator operable to facilitate determining the quantity of processing solution contained within the chamber.
- 56. The digital film processing system of claim 55, wherein the fluid level indicator comprises an electronic device operable to track the quantity of dispensed processing solution.
- 57. The digital film processing system of claim 56, wherein the electronic device comprises an EPROM.
- 58. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the processing solution cartridge includes an locating feature operable to locate the film processing solution cartridge within the digital film processing system.
- 59. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the digital film processing system is embodied in a self-service kiosk.
- 60. The digital film processing system of claim 42, further comprising a development station.
- 61. The digital film processing system of claim 60 wherein the development station includes a heating system.
- 62. The digital film processing system of claim 60, wherein the development station includes an insulated cover.
- 63. The digital film processing system of claim 42, further comprising a processing station.
- 64. The digital film processing system of claim 42, further comprising a leader transport system operable to transport the film through the applicator station and the scanning system.
- 65. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the scanning system operates to measure light transmitted through the film.
- 66. The digital film processing system of claim 65, wherein the light transmitted through the film comprises visible light.
- 67. The digital film processing system of claim 65, wherein the light transmitted through the film further includes infrared light.
- 68. The digital film processing system of claim 67, wherein the visible light transmitted through the film comprises red and green light.
- 69. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the scanning system operates to measure light transmitted though the film and light reflected from the film.
- 70. The digital film processing system of claim 69, wherein the light transmitted through the film comprises visible light.
- 71. The digital film processing system of claim 70, wherein the light transmitted through the film further includes infrared light.
- 72. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the digital image is output to a printer.
- 73. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the digital image is output to a communications network.
- 74. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the digital image is output to a memoir storage device.
- 75. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the processing solution comprises a developer solution.
- 76. The digital film processing system of claim 42, wherein the processing solution comprises a bleaching solution.
- 77. A method of developing and digitizing a film, the method comprising:
coating a developer solution on the film from a replaceable developer cartridge; illuminating the coated film; measuring the illumination from the film and producing sensor data; and processing the sensor data to produce a digital image.
- 78. The method of claim 77, wherein measuring the illumination comprises measuring the illumination transmitted through the film.
- 79. The method of claim 78, wherein measuring the illumination also comprises measuring the illumination reflected from the film.
- 80. The method of claim 77, wherein illuminating the coated film comprises illuminating the coated film with visible light.
- 81. The method of claim 77, wherein illuminating the coated film comprises illuminating the coated film with the visible and infrared light.
- 82. The method of claim 77, wherein measuring the illumination from the film comprises measuring red and green light transmitted through the film and red light reflected from the film.
- 83. The method of claim 77, further comprising printing the digital image.
- 84. The method of claim 77, further comprising storing the digital image.
- 85. The method of claim 77, further comprising communicating the digital image over the Internet.
- 86. The method of claim 77, wherein the developer cartridge comprises
- 87. The method of claim 77, wherein the developer cartridge comprises:
a housing; and a chamber disposed within the housing containing the developer solution.
- 88. The method of claim 87, wherein the developer cartridge further comprises a flexible bladder disposed within the chamber and containing the developer solution.
- 89. The method of claim 87, wherein the developer cartridge includes an applicator operable to coat the developer solution onto the film.
- 90. The method of claim 89, wherein the developer cartridge further comprises a fluid communication system operable to communicate the developer solution from the chamber to the applicator.
- 91. The method of claim 90, wherein the fluid communication system includes a flexible tube forming a portion of a peristaltic pump.
- 92. A digital image produced by a process comprising:
attaching a developer cartridge to a digital film processing system; coating a developer solution onto a film from the developer cartridge; illuminating the coated; measuring the illumination from the coated film and producing sensor data; and processing the sensor data to produce the digital image.
- 93. The digital image of claim 92, wherein the illumination comprises visible and infrared light.
- 94. The digital image of claim 92, wherein processing the sensor data to produce the digital image comprises processing the sensor data to compensate for any occlusions within the film to produce the digital image.
- 95. The digital image of claim 92, wherein the developer cartridge includes an applicator.
- 96. A maintenance cartridge for a digital film processing system, comprising:
a cleaning system operable to clean an applicator, wherein the applicator operates to dispense a film processing solution onto a film; and a capping station operable to substantially seal the applicator when the applicator is not in use.
- 97. The maintenance cartridge of claim 96, wherein the cleaner system comprises a tape cleaner.
- 98. The maintenance cartridge of claim 96, wherein the maintenance cartridge is replaceable within the digital film processing system.
- 99. The maintenance cartridge of claim 96, wherein the cleaner system and capping station are integrated into a plastic housing.
- 100. The maintenance cartridge of claim 99, wherein the housing includes one or more locating features operable to locate the housing within the digital film processing system.
