Claims
- 1. An axle driving apparatus, comprising:a casing forming a sump for hydraulic fluid; a center section mounted in the casing and having hydraulic porting; a hydraulic pump mounted to the center section; a hydraulic motor mounted to the center section and operatively connected to the pump through the hydraulic porting; a plurality of projections formed on the bottom of the center section and extending downwardly therefrom; a filter member having a generally flat top surface and a plurality of holes located in the top surface, whereby each projection extends into one of the holes; and a filter mounted to the filter member.
- 2. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a check valve mounted in each protection.
- 3. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein the hydraulic motor is an axial piston motor and the hydraulic pump is an axial piston pump.
- 4. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 3, wherein the hydraulic motor is mounted generally perpendicular to the hydraulic pump.
- 5. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, where the filter is secured to the filter member and is parallel to the top surface of the filter member.
- 6. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 5, where the filter is secured to the filter member by means of snaps.
- 7. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 6, where the snaps are integrally formed with the filter member.
- 8. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 1, further comprising a differential engaged to and driven by the hydraulic motor.
- 9. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 8, wherein the differential is mounted in the sump.
- 10. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 9, further comprising a pair of output axles mounted in the casing and engaged to the differential.
- 11. A hydrostatic transmission assembly comprising:a hydraulic sump containing hydraulic fluid; a hydraulic pump and motor mechanism mounted in the sump, the pump and motor mechanism comprising a pump, a motor and at least one fluid passageway hydraulically connecting the pump and the motor; a pair of projections attached to the pump and motor mechanism, each projection including a suction port therein, the passageway in the pump and motor mechanism being in fluid communication with the sump through at least one of the suction ports; and a filter assembly comprising a filter element attached to a filter member, the filter member including at least a pair of holes therethrough, where each projection extends into one of the holes, wherein substantially all hydraulic fluid entering the pump and motor mechanism from the sump is passed through the filter element.
- 12. A hydrostatic transmission assembly as set forth in claim 11, wherein the pump and motor mechanism comprises a pump and motor block assembly, and the passageway comprises porting provided in the pump and motor block assembly.
- 13. A hydrostatic transmission assembly as set forth in claim 11, wherein each suction port includes a check valve disposed therein.
- 14. A hydrostatic transmission assembly as set forth in claim 13, wherein each projection is sealingly engaged with the filter member by one of the check valves.
- 15. The hydrostatic transmission assembly of claim 11, further comprising an axle mechanism disposed in the sump and drivingly engaged with the hydrostatic transmission.
- 16. The hydrostatic transmission assembly of claim 11, wherein the pump and motor mechanism comprises a center section on which the pair of projections are formed.
- 17. The hydrostatic transmission assembly of claim 16, wherein the projections are substantially circular.
- 18. An axle driving apparatus comprising:a casing forming a sump for hydraulic fluid; a mounting member mounted in the casing and having hydraulic porting and a plurality of projections extending from the mounting member; a hydraulic pump and hydraulic motor mounted to the mounting member and operatively connected to one another through the hydraulic porting; a filter member having a generally flat surface with a plurality of holes located therein, whereby each projection extends through one of the holes; and a filter mounted to the filter member.
- 19. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 18, wherein the hydraulic motor is an axial piston motor and the hydraulic pump is an axial piston pump and further comprising a plurality of check valves mounted in the projections.
- 20. An axle driving apparatus as set forth in claim 19, further comprising a differential engaged to and driven by the hydraulic motor and a pair of output axles mounted in the casing and engaged to the differential.
