Claims
- 1. An oil filter suitable for removing hydroperoxides from a lubricating oil which comprises means for passing said lubricating oil through said filter, means for contacting said lubricating oil with a heterogenous hydroperoxide decomposer wherein the hydroperoxide decomposer is Mo.sub.4 S.sub.4 (RCOS.sub.2).sub.6, and R is an alkyl group having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms.
- 2. The filter of claim 1 wherein the hydroperoxide decomposer comprises Mo.sub.4 S.sub.4 (C.sub.2 H.sub.5 COS.sub.2).sub.6.
- 3. The filter of claim 1 wherein the hydroperoxide decomposer is immobilized on a substrate within the oil filter.
- 4. The filter of claim 3 wherein the substrate comprises activated carbon.
- 5. The filter of claim 3 wherein the substrate is alumina, activated clay, cellulose, cement binder, silica-alumina, activated carbon, or mixtures thereof.
- 6. The filter of claim 3 wherein the filter also contains a sorbent.
