Claims
- 1. A telephone switching system for telephone lines in a telephone network, said system comprising:
- A. a plurality of port means connected to the lines for monitoring and controlling signals on the lines and for receiving and transmitting voice signals and supervisory signals,
- B. storage means for storing supervisory information in the form of a plurality of signals representing successive time samples of the supervisory signals,
- C. signal transfer means connected to said storage means and said port means for transferring the supervisory signals between said port means and said storage means,
- D. port event processing means connected to said storage means for controlling the operation of each said port means in response to the information in said storage means, said port event processing means including:
- i. timing means for retrieving, in a predetermined sequence, stored supervisory information for each said port means from said storage means,
- ii. filter means connected to said storage means and said timing means for generating a filtered supervisory signal in response to the stored supervisory information, including logic means for receiving a group of successive time sample signals in parallel thereby to produce an output signal that reflects the state of the majority of the received sample signals,
- iii. control means connected to said timing means and said filter means for using the filtered supervisory signal for controlling the operation of said port means, and
- iv. means connected to said filter means for transferring updated supervisory information to said storage means, and
- E. call processing means connected to said storage means for transferring command information and command timing information to said storage means thereby to control said port event processing means, and
- F. switching means connected to said signal transfer means and said call processing means for controlling the transfer of voice signals among said port means in response to information from said call processing means.
- 2. A telephone switching system as recited in claim 1 wherein said storage means includes means for recording successive input values of the signal from said logic means and said filter means further includes:
- a. register means for receiving signals from said input value recording means, and
- b. binary signal filtering means connected to said logic means and said register means for generating the filtered supervisory signal.
- 3. A telephone switching system as recited in claim 1 wherein said port event processing means further includes seizure detection logic means connected to said filter means for transferring to a location in said storage means a seizure signal when the filtered supervisory signal is asserted for a predetermined interval.
- 4. A telephone switching system as recited in claim 3 wherein said storage means includes a supervisory control and release control storage means that receives release timing information from said call processing means, the filtered supervisory signal indicating whether the corresponding telephone line is characterized by an on-hook or an off-hook condition, said port event processing means further including release timing means connected to said supervisory control and release control storage means for generating a release signal when the filtered supervisory signal indicates an on-hook condition for a predetermined time interval after the telephone line is seized.
- 5. A telephone switching system as recited in claim 1 wherein said storage means includes a supervisory input location and said port event processing means further includes means responsive to the filtered supervisory signal for altering the contents of said supervisory input location.
- 6. A telephone switching system as recited in claim 1 wherein one of the commands from said call processing means enables said port event processing means to receive telephone digits and said port event processing means further includes:
- a. receive digits processing means responsive to the receive digits command and including means responsive to the filtered supervisory signal and connected to said timing means for decoding the filtered supervisory signal into signals representing telephone number digits and means for storing the telephone number digits in said storage means.
- 7. A telephone switching system as recited in claim 1 wherein one command from said call processing means is a send digits command and said port event processing means further includes send digits means responsive to the send digits command for transferring digits onto a telephone line, said send digits means including means for producing signals corresponding to the telephone number digits to be sent, polarity check logic means responsive to the filtered supervisory signal for generating a polarity signal and means responsive to the polarity signal for controlling the operation of said send digits means.
- 8. A control system for a telephone switching system that includes a plurality of ports each of which receives and transmits voice signals and supervisory signals on a telephone line, said control system comprising:
- A. storage means for storing supervisory information in the form of a plurality of signals representing successive time samples of the supervisory signals;
- B. signal transfer means for transferring supervisory signals between the ports and said storage means; and
- C. port event processing means connected to said storage means for controlling the operation of each said port in response to the information stored in said storage means, said port event processing means including:
- i. timing means for retrieving, in a predetermined sequence, stored supervisory information for each port from said storage means;
- ii. filter means connected to said storage means and said timing means for generating a filtered supervisory signal in response to the stored supervisory information, including logic means for receiving a group of successive time sample signals in parallel thereby to produce a filtered supervisory signal that reflects the state of the majority of the received sample signals;
- iii. control means connected to said timing means and said filter means for using the filtered supervisory signal to control the operation of the port, and
- iv. means connected to said filter means for transferring updated supervisory information to said storage means.
- 9. A control system as recited in claim 8 wherein said storage means includes means for recording successive input values of the signal from said logic means and said filter means further includes:
- a. register means for receiving signals from said input values recording means, and
- b. binary signal filtering means connected to said logic means and said register means for generating the filtered supervisory signal.
- 10. A control system as recited in claim 8 wherein said port event processing means further includes seizure detection logic means connected to said filter means for transferring to a location in said storage means a seizure signal when the filtered supervisory signal is asserted for a predetermined interval.
- 11. A control system as recited in claim 10 wherein the telephone switching system further includes a call processor that generates command information and command timing information that is stored in said storage means, and wherein said storage means includes a release control storage means that receives release timing information from the call processor and the filtered supervisory signal indicates whether the corresponding telephone line is characterized by an on-hook or an off-hook condition, said port event processing means further including release timing means connected to said supervisory control and release control storage means for generating a release signal when the filtered supervisory signal indicates an on-hook condition for a predetermined time interval after the telephone line is seized.
- 12. A control system as recited in claim 8 wherein said storage means includes a supervisory input location and said port event processing means further includes means responsive to the filtered supervisory signal for altering the contents of said supervisory input location.
- 13. A control system as recited in claim 8 wherein the telephone switching system further includes a call processor that generates command information and command timing information that is stored in said storage means, and wherein one of the commands from the call processor enables said port event processing means to receive telephone digits and said port event processing means further includes receive digits processing means responsive to the receive digits command and including means responsive to the filtered supervisory signal and connected to said timing means for decoding the filtered supervisory signal into signals representing telephone number digits and means for storing the telephone number digits in said storage means.
- 14. A control system as recited in claim 8 wherein the telephone switching system further includes a call processor that generates command information and command timing information that is stored in said storage means, and wherein one command from the call processor is a send digits command and said port event processing means further includes send digits means responsive to the send digits command for transferring digits onto a telephone line, said send digits means including means for producing signals corresponding to the telephone number digits to be sent, polarity check logic means responsive to the filtered supervisory signal for generating a polarity signal and means responsive to the polarity signal for controlling the operation of said send digits means.

This patent application is a continuation of copending application Ser. No. 231,181 filed Feb. 3, 1981, which is a continuation of application Ser. No. 072,492 filed Sept. 4, 1979, which is a continuation of application Ser. No. 924,881 filed July 14, 1978, which in turn is a continuation in part of a commonly-assigned application entitled "Arrangement of Interactive Processors for Sensing or Transmitting Supervisory Events", Ser. No. 864,401, filed Dec. 27, 1977, by Barrie Brightman, et al, all of which are abandoned.
