Claims
- 1. A filter construction comprising:
- (a) first and second end caps;
- (b) a cylindrical pleated filter construction embedded in, and extending between, said first and second end caps;
- (c) an inner liner embedded in, and extending between, said first and second end caps;
- (i) said inner liner including at least a portion thereof positioned downstream from said cylindrical pleated filter;
- (d) at least two regions of media positioned upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction; said at least two regions of media comprising:
- (i) a first, more upstream, region of media comprising a fibrous media having a percent solidity, within the filter construction, of no greater than about 3%;
- (ii) a second, more downstream, region of media positioned:
- (A) downstream from said first, more upstream, region of media; and,
- (B) upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction;
- (iii) said second, more downstream, region of media comprising a material having, within the filter construction, a different efficiency of filtering than said first, more upstream, region of media.
- 2. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein:
- (a) said second, more downstream, region of media comprises fibrous depth media.
- 3. A filter construction according to claim 1, wherein:
- (a) said second, more downstream, region of media comprises a single layer of media.
- 4. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein:
- (a) said first, more upstream, region of media comprises a single layer of media.
- 5. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein:
- (a) said cylindrical pleated filter construction comprises a pleated paper construction.
- 6. A filter construction according to claim 1 wherein:
- (a) said first, more upstream, layer of media comprises a non-woven web of polyester fibers.
- 7. A filter construction according to claim 1 having:
- (a) at least one layer of media positioned upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction which is removable from, and replaceable in, said filter construction.
- 8. A filter construction according to claim 7 wherein:
- (a) said at least one layer of media which is removable from, and replaceable in, said filter construction includes a region of fibrous depth media.
- 9. A filter construction comprising:
- (a) first and second end caps;
- (b) a cylindrical pleated filter construction embedded in, and extending between, said first and second end caps;
- (c) an inner liner embedded in, and extending between, said first and second end caps;
- (i) said inner liner including at least a portion thereof positioned downstream from said cylindrical pleated filter;
- (d) at least two regions of media positioned upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction; said at least two regions of media comprising:
- (i) a first, more upstream, region of media comprising a fibrous media having a free state solidity of no greater than about 1.8%;
- (ii) a second, more downstream, region of media positioned:
- (A) downstream from said first, more upstream, region of media; and,
- (B) upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction;
- (iii) said second, more downstream, region of media comprising a material having, within the filter construction, a different efficiency of filtering than said first, more upstream, region of media.
- 10. A filter construction according to claim 9 wherein:
- (a) said first, more upstream, region of media has a free state solidity greater than about 0.8%
- 11. A filter construction comprising:
- (a) first and second end caps;
- (b) a cylindrical pleated filter construction embedded in, and extending between, said first and second end caps;
- (c) an inner liner embedded in, and extending between, said first and second end caps;
- (i) said inner liner including at least a portion thereof positioned downstream from said cylindrical pleated filter;
- (d) at least two regions of media positioned upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction; said at least two regions of media comprising:
- (i) a first, more upstream, region of media comprising a fibrous media having an average fiber diameter within the range of about 16-22 microns;
- (ii) a second, more downstream, region of media positioned:
- (A) downstream from said first, more upstream, region of media; and,
- (B) upstream from said cylindrical pleated filter construction;
- (iii) said second, more downstream, region of media comprising a material having, within the filter construction, a different efficiency of filtering than said first, more upstream, region of media.
- 12. A filter construction according to claim 11 wherein:
- (a) said first, more upstream, region of media comprises a fibrous media having an average fiber diameter of about 18-20 microns.
- 13. A filter construction according to claim 12 wherein:
- (a) said second, more downstream, region of media comprises a fibrous media having an average fiber diameter of less than about 18 microns.
- 14. A filter construction according to claim 12 wherein:
- (a) said second, more downstream region of media comprises a fibrous media having an average fiber diameter of about 12-16 microns.
